Biography Of Reverend Charles William Rogers (1809-1861), Delores Gaulden
Biography Of Reverend Charles William Rogers (1809-1861), Delores Gaulden
Savannah Biographies
The early life of Rev. Charles w. Rogers is very obscure. Having been born into a wealthy family and becoming a Minister, I am going to assume he was well educated. He married Caroline M. R_?., a native of Connecticut. To them four children were born; Anna, Carrie, Georgia and Charles U. Rogers. Indications are that Anna was the oldest of the four children, named for her grandmother. Already married at the time of her father's death, she was also first child mentioned in her father's will. Anna married Dr. Joseph West. Daughter Carrie married Samuel Stiles of Savannah. Two …

The Life Of Noble Andrew Hardee, James Russell Parker Jr.

In 1830 he served in the House of Representatives from Camden County. In the mid-1820's he married Martha Williams of Milledgeville, who bore him two children that did not survive early childhood. Moses was bor_n inQincinnati,.Ohio in 1864. While his two brothers discussed above, were somewhat prominent as leadtffs in their youth, Moses seems to have been the businessman the ''hard-working type·of the family. He, like his brothers and fathers, was in dry goods, clothing, and the like, and he seems to have been somewhat successful (so far as can be determined until 1903); however, at some time before World War I, he went into insurance. (The firm which he founded continues today under the ownership of his grandson.) Moses married Henrietta Byck in 189J and she died 'in 1917. He re-married in …
A History Of The John A Staley Family, Rick Moesch
A History Of The John A Staley Family, Rick Moesch
Savannah Biographies
John A. Staley was an interesting man, a versatile and somewhat controversial character. Born in Georgia in 1813, he served as Justice of the Peace, from the third District, from 1857 to 1866. Mr. Staley was seldom employed in the same profession for any length of time. Besides his terra as Justice of the Peace, only his length of service as Sherriff of Chatham County is of any real interest. Mr. Staley probably married in the middle l830's or early l840's, though there is nothing; to substantiate these dates. The relationship between Staley and his wife, Jane Williams Staley was …

John Haupt-His Life And Geneology, Herbert L. Victor
Savannah Biographies
John H. Haupt, who financed construction of the house at 113 E. Oglethorpe Avenue (Lot 13, Franklin Ward), was born in St. Augustine, Florida about August, 1780. In 1802, at the age of twenty-two, he married Rebecca Lavender of Savannah. He had moved to Savannah sometime previous to his marriage, probably with his presumed father, John Haupt, a baker. As a young man, Haupt was quite a character, defaulting n taxes several times before running for Receiver of the Tax Returns in 1811, a position for which he was defeated. This defeat marked the beginning of a somewhat less than …
