Teaching Students About Trauma And Brain Regulation, Kathy Van Horn, Joshua Macneill

It is important to empower students with information and understanding about trauma along with concepts and interventions for brain regulation and healing. When information about the impact of trauma is shared with students without first establishing a solid foundation for hope and change, it can do more harm than good. In this presentation, we will share guidelines and ideas for teaching key trauma-informed principles to students including physical, emotional and social regulation strategies as well as an understanding of the stress response.

In 2019, the Georgia Southern Libraries hired a new Dean of the Libraries. The Access Services department was responsible for implementing several new projects and was required to assemble a project team using the new Dean’s foundational approach of shared governance. This presentation will outline how the Access Services department built a project team on the fly. We will outline the criteria used to select members from across two campuses to complete several different projects.

A Nationwide Study Of The “July Effect” Concerning Postpartum Hemorrhage And Its Risk Factors At Teaching Hospitals Across The United States, Zahra Shahin, Gulzar H. Shah, Bettye Apenteng, Kristie Cason Waterfield, Hani M. Samawi

Objective To assess the “July effect” and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and its risk factors across the U.S. teaching hospitals. Method This study used the 2018 Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) and included 2,056,359 of 2,879,924 single live-birth hospitalizations with low-risk pregnancies across the U.S. teaching hospitals. The International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) medical coding was used to identify PPH and other study variables. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to compare the adjusted odds of PPH risk in the first and second quarters of the academic year vs. …

In recent years, corporate social responsibility policies and an international focus on workplace inclusion have led to an increase in workers’ quality of life and an attempt to end workplace discrimination. Past discrimination research has found many barriers to entry for people with disabilities, a group subject to discrimination based on their perceived competence from the perceptions of employers, co-employees, and customers. Along with negative perceptions, studies find people with disabilities to be subject to wage discrimination.
