Prospective On Automation For Omnichannel Services And The Need For New Robotic Solutions For Store Fulfillment Operations, Jennifer Pazour, Manmit Padhy, Georg Fischer, Joyjit Bhowmick, Sebastian Köhler, Gideon Arndt, Kai Furmans

16th IMHRC Proceedings (Dresden, Germany- 2023)

As businesses offer omnichannel services, such as buy-online-pickup-in-store, more logistical processes need to be conducted within or close to a retail environment. For retailers who adopt a store fulfillment concept, order picking for online orders is conducted inside a store environment and is in addition to the logistic processes required to support in-store customer requests. A store fulfillment approach has the advantage of enabling inventory, labor, infrastructure, and automation to be pooled for online orders, in-store customers, and return processing. Yet, the design and operation of logistical tasks completed in a retail environment is more challenging and requires considering …

Undergraduate Students’ Perception Of Leadership Development Programs And Leadership Self-Efficacy, Benjamin Phillips, Juliann Sergi Mcbrayer, Brandon Hunt, Antonio Gutierrez De Blume, Katherine Fallon

Leadership, Technology & Human Development: Faculty Publications

Colleges and universities across the United States face continual pressure to meet enrollment and retention goals, as budgets in this performance-based environment continue to become more important. On-campus student involvement, such as in undergraduate leadership development programs, has been shown to have a positive influence on both student retention and success. A survey was utilized to examine leadership self-efficacy and engagement of undergraduate students that participated in campus-based leadership development programs and explore some motivators (contributing factors) and barriers (detracting factors) to involvement in those programs. One emergent theme within contributing factors to participation was alignment with personal goals (74.7%), …

Ways To Participate In Ongoing Regulation Around Artificial Intelligence Ethics In The United States, Wilhelmina Randtke Jul 2023

Ways To Participate In Ongoing Regulation Around Artificial Intelligence Ethics In The United States, Wilhelmina Randtke

University Libraries: Faculty Presentations

In January 2021, the US passed the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act of 2020. The goal is a cohesive federal AI initiative, and part of that is safety, ethics, and transparency. The act includes funding appropriations for 2021-2025, and roll out takes place over that time. In implementing this law, there is recent and ongoing activity to regulate AI in the US. Regular calls for public participation go out to the public on www.federalregister.gov in the form of open ended questions on which input is requested, and feedback on reports or action plans.

The linked data community is uniquely positioned …

Is The Public Aware Of Water Quality Monitoring And Safety Notifications On Beaches?, Asli Aslan, Jeffery A. Jones, Dziyana Nazaruk, Sibel Zeki

Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association

Recreational water-related activities have important public health benefits, however, pollution at beaches may have serious health risks. Although there is a substantial amount of research and policies in place at federal and state levels, oftentimes these efforts may not be well translated to the public. This paper evaluates the effectiveness of routine water quality monitoring and warning systems in Georgia, USA. A survey was conducted among 238 beachgoers in Georgia, asking about awareness of water quality monitoring and warning signs for beach advisories. Surveys were collected directly at beaches as well as through an online questionnaire. Results show that more …
