Evidence Of Empathy In Animals Across Time, Jeffrey Stephen Gavel

Empathetic behaviors are characterized by a three-tiered hierarchical organization involving arousal, emotional contagion, and cognitive empathy. In the current study, we define each step in this hierarchy in order to build toward a paradigm that represents true cognitive empathy. We then examine the levels of empathy displayed by rats in previous paradigms and classify prior studies by level of arousal, emotional contagion, or cognitive empathy. Finally, we present two studies which examine the potential for empathetic display in rats.

Factors That Influence Individual Differences In Female Sexual Response In A College-Aged Population, Tynisa La'sure Jones

College females (N=115) completed a questionnaire, which asked an array of questions about demographics, health, sexual partners and orgasm, sexual satisfaction, masturbation and vibrators, personality, and sex guilt. Of the participants, 106 reported that they had experienced sex of some kind, 83 indicated that they had experienced single orgasm during sex with a partner, and 46 indicated that they had experienced multiple orgasms during sex with a partner. Independent variables -- general questions, communication with partner, overall satisfaction, fear of becoming pregnant, stress, general demographics and medications -- were significantly related to one or both of the measures of sexual …

Over 70% percent of the current National Football League (NFL) population is of African-American descent (Lapchick, 2007). Moreover, there is a disparity between sport analyst with 74% of the radio and television announcers being White, and 12% being Black (Lapchick 2006). Thus, the purpose was to examine African-American NFL players on their experiences of media interaction from a phenomenological perspective and veteran NFL reporters experiences of interacting with African-American NFL players. I will be looking at Keri Hulmes novel The Bone People as a postcolonial text. The beginning will explore the current conversations taking place about the importance of language(s) within texts that are deemed postcolonial as they relate to Hulmes novel which is written in both Maori and English. Other important postcolonial ideas applicable to the text such as space, magical realism, and current postcolonial theory will be looked at. Previous criticism will also be examined. Toward An Anarchist Theory Of Self: Wilderness, Actualization And Authority, Joseph Amos Garcia

This research investigated essential components of optimal human functioning. An anarchist model was used to emphasize the autonomous nature of an optimally functioning self. Utilizing Abraham Maslows hierarchy of needs model, Leonard Martins ID compensation theory, fundamental principles of anarchist theory and environmental feedback paradigms it has been shown that time spent during backpacking experiences in the wilderness may simulate immediate return social systems, allow for recognition of need fulfillment and ultimately increase self-actualization. In addition it was shown that materialism, via an ownership index, is negatively correlated with actualization. Utilizing a backward regression analysis the resulting model supports the …

Conservative Mind: A Focus On Introspection And Worldview, April A. Strickland

The aim of this study is to examine conservative attitudes as a function of introspection. Previous literature has hypothesized that conservative ideologies are the result of a dangerous and authoritarian worldview, where individuals are essentially hedonistic and need rules and regulations in order to behave morally. Empirical research has also indicated that conservatives are generally higher in authoritarianism, intolerance for ambiguity, dogmatism, and need for closure than liberals. Based on these conservative correlates, it was hypothesized within this study that less introspective thought would be shown by those individuals who hold more conservative ideologies, as opposed to those individuals that …

Over the past 30 years, the national numbers of kindergarten through 12th grade students from diverse backgrounds have nearly doubled. Based on the enrollment count in 2005, the state of Georgia experienced a similar change as minority students became the majority in Georgias public schools. Even though this has occurred, the total statewide number of minority students enrolled in the gifted program and the number of minority students enrolled in the gifted program in some school districts in Georgia is not representative of this diversity.
