Mood, Anxiety, Rpe, And %Mhr After A Single 15, 30 And 60 Minute Session Of Vinyasa Yoga, Marissa Gabriella Mcguirk
Mood, Anxiety, Rpe, And %Mhr After A Single 15, 30 And 60 Minute Session Of Vinyasa Yoga, Marissa Gabriella Mcguirk
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The literature supports that yoga practice decreases stress, anxiety, and improves overall mood, with reports of these changes after only one session of yoga. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the change in anxiety and mood and compare RPE and %MHR after a single 15, 30 and 60 minute session of Vinyasa yoga in a healthy college population. It was hypothesized that (1) the total POMS score, scores for the six POMS subscales, state anxiety, and (2) values of RPE and %MHR would be significantly different from 30 and 60 minutes, but 30 and 60 minutes would …
The Effect Of A Bcaa Supplement With And Without Cho On Performance In Recreationally Trained Cyclists, Alaine Carleton Mills
The Effect Of A Bcaa Supplement With And Without Cho On Performance In Recreationally Trained Cyclists, Alaine Carleton Mills
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The purpose of the current study was to examine the effect of a branched- chain amino acid (BCAA) supplement with and without carbohydrate (CHO) on performance in competitive cyclists. Subjects were recruited from the GSU cycling team (n=6). Each subject's maximal oxygen uptake (VO2 max) was determined on an electrically braked cycle ergometer using a graded exercise test. In a randomized, double-blind, crossover design, subjects received one of three supplements prior to exercise: BCAA-1 teaspoon BCAA powder (Optimum Nutrition ® Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder containing 2.5g leucine, 1.25g isoleucine, and 1.25g valine), mixed with 500 ml of a zero calorie …

The research participants consisted of 4 in-season collegiate student-athletes, 18-21 …
An Examination Of An Optimism Training Intervention On Optimism Levels Of Ncaa Division I Athletes: A Single Subject Design, Anya Marie Salzgeber
An Examination Of An Optimism Training Intervention On Optimism Levels Of Ncaa Division I Athletes: A Single Subject Design, Anya Marie Salzgeber
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Optimism has been shown to provide many benefits, such as better health, increased satisfaction, confidence, motivation, and higher athletic performance. Research has also suggested the ability to increase the frequency of experiencing those benefits through the use of certain cognitive behavior therapy techniques. While the research shows the ability to increase optimism in a random sample of individuals, there is a lack of research on increasing optimism in athletes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of an optimism training intervention on state optimism levels of NCAA Division 1 athletes. It was hypothesized the intervention will …

On Discriminating Between Geometric Strategies Of Surface-Based Orientation, Bradley R. Sturz, Kent D. Bodily
On Discriminating Between Geometric Strategies Of Surface-Based Orientation, Bradley R. Sturz, Kent D. Bodily
Psychology: Faculty Publications
Recently, a debate has manifested in the spatial learning literature regarding the shape parameters by which mobile organisms orient with respect to the environment. On one hand are principal-axis-based strategies which suggest that organisms extract the major and minor principal axes of space which pass through the centroid and approximate length and width of the entire space, respectively. On the other hand are medial-axis-based strategies which suggest that organisms extract a trunk-and-branch system similar to the skeleton of a shape. With competing explanations comes the necessity to devise experiments capable of producing divergent predictions. Here, we suggest that a recent …
Rti Implementation: Identifying The Barriers And Best Practices, Kathleen Ann Leaver
Rti Implementation: Identifying The Barriers And Best Practices, Kathleen Ann Leaver
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Although the Individuals with Disabilities Improvement Act (IDEIA) was re-authorized in 2004 and permitted the use of RTI as part of the eligibility process, few states and districts have begun to implement it appropriately, let alone assess and ameliorate RTI processes effectively. RTI is basically a problem-solving process. As students move higher up the tiers, instruction and behavioral management techniques are tailored to suit their needs. The effective educator seeks appropriate instruction for all students. Effective RTI practices could remediate at-risk students' difficulties, increase student scores on accountability tests, and improve identification of student with disabilities (SWD) Educators are responsible …
Perceived Effect Of Obesity In Rural Vs. Urban Areas, Damian Richard Macleod
Perceived Effect Of Obesity In Rural Vs. Urban Areas, Damian Richard Macleod
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This study examined the effects of obesity on quality of life (QOL) using the ORWELL 97 questionnaire, which measured pychosocial (discomfort and impact) and physical (physical discomfort) distress. Data were collected during Spring and Summer semesters (2006) from physical activity classes and student organizations. A total of 166 students (84 males, 86 females) participated. Students were grouped by sex (male, female), weight category (obese, non-obese) or BMI (obese, overweight, normal weight), and geographic area (rural, urban); three-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) tested for main effects and interactions. Obese participants reported a poorer QOL than the non-obese, and females reported a …
