Teacher Reflection Through Video-Recording Analysis, Anthony M. Pellegrino, Brian L. Gerber
Teacher Reflection Through Video-Recording Analysis, Anthony M. Pellegrino, Brian L. Gerber
Georgia Educational Researcher
The purpose of this research study was to examine the utility of video-recording self-analysis as an effective means of reflective practice for teachers. Participants were enrolled in a graduate-level education specialist program for practicing teachers based, in part, on the National Board for Professional Teaching standards–one of which explicitly focuses on reflective practice for teachers. Participants employed a formal observation instrument to guide them in this reflective activity. All participants recorded and analyzed their teaching using the observation instrument, and subsequently participated in a think-aloud session during which they discussed the activity as a reflective practice. Participants articulated that engaging …
Analyzing Levels Of Feedback Delivered By Cooperating Teachers And Supervisors In A Teacher Internship: A Case Study, James Badger
Analyzing Levels Of Feedback Delivered By Cooperating Teachers And Supervisors In A Teacher Internship: A Case Study, James Badger
Georgia Educational Researcher
This research analyzed the feedback delivered by cooperating teachers and university supervisors in an internship, and reports how student teachers perceived the feedback they received during debriefing sessions with their mentors. Hattie and Timperley’s (2007) framework for conceptualizing effective feedback was used to analyze cooperating teachers’ and field supervisor’ assessment of the student teachers’ classroom instruction. Findings from two surveys, documents, and interviews revealed a preponderance of feedback that was devoted to instruction and classroom management with a relative paucity of feedback dedicated to the processing of instruction, consideration of student learning, and development of self-reflection in the student teachers. …

A Quantitative Content Analysis Of Mercer University Theses, Justus J. Randolph, Lura S. Gaiek, Torian A. White, Lisa A. Slappey, Andrea Chastain, Rose Prejean-Harris, Cole Hansard
Georgia Educational Researcher
Quantitative content analysis of a body of research not only helps budding researchers understand the culture, language, and expectations of scholarship, it helps identify deficiencies and inform policy and practice. Because of these benefits, an analysis of a census of 980 Mercer University M.Ed., Ed.S., and doctoral theses was conducted. Each thesis was coded on 10 variables. The descriptive characteristics of the theses, the predictors of the length of the theses, and the predictors of the type of research method used were investigated. The main results were that: (a) the vast majority of thesis authors was female, (b) the number …

A Comparison Of Student Performance In Single-Sex Education And Coeducational Settings In Urban Middle Schools, Craig Erico Ogden
A Comparison Of Student Performance In Single-Sex Education And Coeducational Settings In Urban Middle Schools, Craig Erico Ogden
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Since amendments to NCLB in 2004, public schools have not only established single-sex schools, but have also established single-sex classrooms within coeducational schools. Most of these modifications were adopted as a means to provide support to lowachieving students, many of who reside in urban settings. Proponents of single-sex instruction state that mostly African Americans, Hispanics, and females benefit most from this type of instructional setting because single-sex environments help to reduce gender stereotypes students encounter in coeducational settings. Opponents of single-sex instruction believe that accomplishments achieved in single-sex environments can be achieved in coeducational environments if the proper teaching strategies …

In Context, Kate Felzien
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The present thesis seeks to show the influences to my artwork and describe the body of work found in my thesis exhibition, In Context. The role of family and childhood are discussed and related to the work. The feminist writers bell hooks, Jane Tompkins, and Hélène Cixous are cited as influential to the initial exploration of my content. Artists discussed include Louise Bourgeois, Kiki Smith, Annette Messager, and Robert Rauschenberg. It is further shown how poetry and prose evolve as the catalyst for content for my work and how this enforces my belief that only through examining the personal can …
Investigations Of The Tribological Effects Of Engine Oil Dilution By Vegetable And Animal Fat Feedstock Biodiesel On Selected Surfaces, Sultana Mahbuba Shanta
Investigations Of The Tribological Effects Of Engine Oil Dilution By Vegetable And Animal Fat Feedstock Biodiesel On Selected Surfaces, Sultana Mahbuba Shanta
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Biodiesels have become attractive alternative fuel to replace traditional fossil fuels. Biodiesels can be used in diesel engines with no major modification, but its use leads to some degree of engine oil dilution because of biodiesel leaking and scrapping to engine oil pan. Biodiesels can be made from vegetable and animal fat feedstocks. Therefore, the fatty acid methyl ester components of biodiesel may vary upon these sources of feedstock. In this thesis work, engine oil is diluted with vegetable (canola oil, peanut oil and soybean oil biodiesel) and animal (chicken fat) feedstock biodiesels at known percentages and these mixtures are …

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This study was conducted to identify public school graduates perceptions regarding school choice options and their preparedness for success after high school. This is accomplished by presenting a historical and contextual overview of education as it specifically relates to low socioeconomic and minority populations. It analyzes governmental controls that may serve to restrict access to a quality education. This study seeks to promote equity through education as viewed through a social justice perspective. While governmental mandates, societal changes, and legal remedies have evolved and shaped America's education history, it has yet to fully empower parents and guardians to freely choose …
Credit Rating And Assignment Of Naics Codes Using Lsi Method, Jerome Ouedraogo
Credit Rating And Assignment Of Naics Codes Using Lsi Method, Jerome Ouedraogo
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The objective here is first, to improve automatic assignment of industry codes using LSI (lexical processing) by increasing the algorithm efficiency (both computationally and in term of input requirements), then quantify the lender's risk as "distance to default" (higher distance to default indicates default is less likely to occur), estimate the distance to default for each company and combine the results to obtain an estimate of the distance to default for each NAICS code.
On Gorenstein Projective And Gorenstein Flat Modules, Chasen Grady Smith
On Gorenstein Projective And Gorenstein Flat Modules, Chasen Grady Smith
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Purpose: H. Holm's metatheorem states, "Every result in classical homological algebra has a counterpart in Gorenstein homological algebra". We support this statement by showing over commutative Noetherian rings of finite Krull dimension, every Gorenstein at module has finite Gorenstein projective dimension. This statement is the Gorenstein counterpart of a famous theorem of Gruson, Jensen, and Raynaud. Using this result we prove that over such rings, a module M having finite Gorenstein at dimension is equivalent to M having finite Gorenstein projective dimension.
The Examination Of Real-Life Implementations Of Critical Elements In A Professional Learning Community For High-Performing Middle Schools And Low-Performing Middle Schools, Damita Griffin Bynes
The Examination Of Real-Life Implementations Of Critical Elements In A Professional Learning Community For High-Performing Middle Schools And Low-Performing Middle Schools, Damita Griffin Bynes
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
In a September 2 Education Week Commentary, Kahlenberg (2009) identified 5,000 schools across the nation categorized as failing or low-performing schools. A significant amount of attention and resources are dedicated to transform low-performing schools to high-performing schools promoting student achievement. Because of the increasing demand that low-performing schools be turned around, Georgia schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) two consecutive years for the same indicator are placed in Needs Improvement (NI) status and face escalating consequences from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). In the midst of all of the demands to meet local and state requirements, …
Why Do Parents Choose To Send Their Children To Private Schools?, Ava M. Davis
Why Do Parents Choose To Send Their Children To Private Schools?, Ava M. Davis
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Private schools were the original educational entities in the United States and have continued playing a prominent role in educating America's youth. The number of private schools has increased over the last decade while the number of private school students has remained stable at approximately nine percent of school-aged children. The reasons for choosing a private school are just as varied as the types of private schools available. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the reasons parents give for choosing a private school education for their children. A basic interpretive qualitative study was used to discover and …
