Forcibly-Biconnected Graphical Degree Sequences: Decision Algorithms And Enumerative Results, Kai Wang
Forcibly-Biconnected Graphical Degree Sequences: Decision Algorithms And Enumerative Results, Kai Wang
Theory & Applications of Graphs
We present an algorithm to test whether a given graphical degree sequence is forcibly biconnected. The worst case time complexity of the algorithm is shown to be exponential but it is still much better than the previous basic algorithm for this problem. We show through experimental evaluations that the algorithm is efficient on average. We also adapt the classic algorithm of Ruskey et al. and that of Barnes and Savage to obtain some enumerative results about forcibly biconnected graphical degree sequences of given length n and forcibly biconnected graphical partitions of given even integer n. Based on these enumerative …

Laplacian Spectral Characterization Of Signed Sun Graphs, Fatemeh Motialah, Mohammad Hassan Shirdareh Haghighi
Theory & Applications of Graphs
A sun SGn is a graph of order 2n consisting of a cycle Cn, n ≥ 3, to each vertex of it a pendant edge is attached. In this paper, we prove that unbalanced signed sun graphs are determined by their Laplacian spectra. Also we show that a balanced signed sun graph is determined by its Laplacian spectrum if and only if n is odd.

Epid 9132 – Epidemiology Of Infectious Diseases Transmitted Via Bodily Fluids (Aka “Infectious Disease 2” Listed In Folio), (Isaac) Chun Hai Fung
College of Public Health: Faculty Syllabi (2014-2021)
This course covers advanced topics in epidemiology of infectious diseases transmitted via bodily fluids, primarily sexually transmitted infections and bloodborne infections. Important themes may include outbreak preparedness and response, surveillance, and interventions that prevent and control transmissions. Computational, mathematical and statistical tools relevant to the practice of infectious disease epidemiology will be introduced.

Epid 7135-A – Epidemiology Of Infectious Disease, (Isaac) Chun Hai Fung
College of Public Health: Faculty Syllabi (2014-2021)
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the principles and practices of infectious diseases epidemiology with focus on how the presence and control of communicable diseases affects public health locally, nationally and internationally. Topics to be covered include: 1) general principles of infectious diseases epidemiology, including outbreak investigation, surveillance, analysis of infectious diseases data, and laboratory testing of specimens; 2) major modes of infectious disease transmission, including airborne, food and water, zoonotic, insect vector, blood, and sexual transmission; 3) different control strategies for infectious diseases, including infection control, antimicrobial management, immunization, risk factor modification, and screening; …

Epid 7134 – Research Methods Ii, Logan Cowan
College of Public Health: Faculty Syllabi (2014-2021)
This course provides instruction and hands-on experience in the analysis and interpretation of data from epidemiologic studies. Topics to be covered include epidemiology research questions that can be addressed by cross-sectional, case-control and cohort studies; the rationale underlying the major techniques used to analyze data from these studies; the conditions under which these methods are appropriate and their relative advantages and disadvantages. Attention will be given to how interactions, confounders and nonlinear relationships among variables can be addressed along with interpretation of statistical software output from epidemiologic studies employing these designs and analytical methods.

The Impact Of Maternal Literacy Skills On Child Weight In Mozambique, Ashley Watson, Shannon Self-Brown, Iris Feinberg, Whitney Rostad
The Impact Of Maternal Literacy Skills On Child Weight In Mozambique, Ashley Watson, Shannon Self-Brown, Iris Feinberg, Whitney Rostad
Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association
Background: Infant mortality is a serious public health problem. One factor that is strongly associated with infant mortality is low weight in children. The percentage of underweight children under the age of five in Mozambique was 16% in 2012. In order to reduce the number of underweight children in this country, contributing caregiver characteristics of this problem should be investigated. One potentially relevant characteristic is maternal literacy, which has been under investigated. Objective: This study aims to determine whether maternal literacy affected the weight and body-mass-index (BMI) of children ages 0 to 3 years old in Mozambique.
Methodology: A cross-sectional …

Ethical Approaches To Mandating Influenza Vaccinations For Local Health Department Workforce In Georgia, Melicent R. Miller, Maureen K. Akubu-Odero, Lashauna L. Hunt, Stephanie L. Irvin, Catherine T. Palmer, William A. Mase
Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association
Background: The seasonal influenza illness occurs every year in the United States during the cooler months from October to April, sometimes lasting longer. Although certain populations are more susceptible to this condition, data have shown that otherwise healthy individuals have experienced alarming rates of morbidity and mortality associated with these infections. Despite the CDC’s recommendation for influenza vaccination for all HCWs, compliance have been lagging among local health departments’ workforce. This practice arguably exposes a wide cross section of the U.S. population to the flu, while being served in these facilities. The utilitarian approach provides a framework to examine the …

Pedagogical Approach To Developing The Hiring Practices Of Higher Education Administrators, Steve Tolman, Daniel Calhoun
Pedagogical Approach To Developing The Hiring Practices Of Higher Education Administrators, Steve Tolman, Daniel Calhoun
Leadership, Technology & Human Development: Faculty Publications
Most student affairs professionals will serve in a managerial and/or supervisory role at some point in their careers, but only a limited number of higher education graduate preparatory programs have required coursework focusing on this competency area. This situation is disconcerting, as there seems to be an assumption within the student affairs field that new professionals have the formal training and experiences needed to immediately be placed into these managerial and/or supervisory roles. In an effort to address this discrepancy, and in particular staffing practices, one higher education graduate preparatory program developed a course on staffing practices, using an innovative …
