Intervention For Struggling Learners In K-5 Social Studies: Exploring A Tiered Model Of Support, Joshua M. Duggan
Intervention For Struggling Learners In K-5 Social Studies: Exploring A Tiered Model Of Support, Joshua M. Duggan
Teaching Social Studies in the Peach State
The K-5 social studies curriculum introduces students to foundational knowledge in civics, geography, economics, and history. Social studies is also a vehicle through which students: (a) synthesize content knowledge which in turn supports reading comprehension, (b) learn about community structures around them, and (c) build social-emotional skills through an in-depth understanding of the human condition. Yet, instructional time allocated to social studies has decreased over the past few decades, and scores on national social studies assessments indicate that most students do not attain proficiency in acquiring social studies knowledge. Furthermore, there is an absence of a robust system of intervention …
Lower Bounds For The Total Distance $K$-Domination Number Of A Graph, Randy R. Davila
Lower Bounds For The Total Distance $K$-Domination Number Of A Graph, Randy R. Davila
Theory & Applications of Graphs
For $k \geq 1$ and a graph $G$ without isolated vertices, a \emph{total distance $k$-dominating set} of $G$ is a set of vertices $S \subseteq V(G)$ such that every vertex in $G$ is within distance $k$ to some vertex of $S$ other than itself. The \emph{total distance $k$-domination number} of $G$ is the minimum cardinality of a total $k$-dominating set in $G$ and is denoted by $\gamma_{k}^t(G)$. When $k=1$, the total $k$-domination number reduces to the \emph{total domination number}, written $\gamma_t(G)$; that is, $\gamma_t(G) = \gamma_{1}^t(G)$. This paper shows that several known lower bounds on the total domination number generalize …
The Integer-Antimagic Spectra Of A Weak Join Of Hamiltonian Graphs, Ugur Odabasi, Dan Roberts, Richard M. Low
The Integer-Antimagic Spectra Of A Weak Join Of Hamiltonian Graphs, Ugur Odabasi, Dan Roberts, Richard M. Low
Theory & Applications of Graphs
A simple graph $G$ with vertex set $V(G)$ and edge set $E(G)$ is \emph{$\mathbb{Z}_{k}$-antimagic} if there exists a function $f: E(G) \to \mathbb{Z}_{k} \backslash \{0\}$ such that the induced function $f^+(v)=\sum_{uv\in E(G)} f(uv)$ is injective. The \textit{integer-antimagic spectrum} of a graph $G$ is the set IAM$(G) = \{k: G \textnormal{ is } \mathbb{Z}_k\textnormal{-antimagic and } k \geq 2\}$. A \emph{weak join} of vertex-disjoint graphs is the collection of the graphs with additional simple edges (possibly none) between the original graphs. In this paper, we characterize IAM$(H)$ where $H$ is a weak join of Hamiltonian graphs.
Prime Labelings On A 3xn Grid Graph, Stephen J. Curran, Matt A. Ollis
Prime Labelings On A 3xn Grid Graph, Stephen J. Curran, Matt A. Ollis
Theory & Applications of Graphs
It is conjectured that the mxn grid graph has a prime labeling for all positive integers m and n. It is known that for any prime p and any integer n such that 1≤n≤p2, there exists a prime labeling on the pxn grid graph Pm x Pn. Also, it is known that the ladder P2 x Pn has a prime labeling for all positive integers n. We assume that Goldbach's Even Conjecture and a strengthened variant of Lemoine's Conjecture are true in order to show that the 3xn grid graph P …

All Graphs Of Order N With Distinguishing Number N−1 Or N − 2, Andi Pujo Rahadi, Edy Tri Baskoro, Suhadi Wido Saputro
Theory & Applications of Graphs
Let G be a simple connected graph. The distinguishing number of G, denoted by D(G), is the least integer d such that G has a vertex d-labeling preserved only by the trivial automorphism. In this paper, we characterize all graphs of order n with distinguishing number n − 1, or n − 2.

International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
Adaptive learning supports online instruction by offering feedback to students using machine learning. In a funded study, adaptive learning was used in a flipped STEM course at three universities for pre-class preparation. We conducted a comparative analysis with and without adaptive learning. The assessments were a final exam and concept inventory (stratified demographically) and affective questions from the College and University Classroom Environment Inventory, focus groups, and evaluation survey. This study found classroom environment enhancement with adaptive learning, with Task Orientation and Satisfaction exhibiting significant changes at two universities. We found enhanced perspectives with adaptive learning, including increased preference for …
Enhancing Students’ Academic Success Through Reflective Writing In An Undergraduate Flipped Course, Grace Onodipe, Darryl Romanow, Michelle M. Robbins
Enhancing Students’ Academic Success Through Reflective Writing In An Undergraduate Flipped Course, Grace Onodipe, Darryl Romanow, Michelle M. Robbins
International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
Prior research has posited that flipped classrooms facilitate students’ self-directed learning and enhance grades. Although reflective writing is one method linked to academic success, it rarely has been examined empirically in the literature within the context of flipped classrooms. The current study investigated the association between growth mindset-inspired reflective writing, self-regulated learning assessments, and academic performance in a fully flipped Introduction to Economics course. Regression analyses found that reflective writing effort and targeted self-directed learning scores were associated with higher grades on course assessments. These findings suggest that reflective writing that incorporates growth-mindset messaging should be encouraged in flipped classrooms.

Belonging, Re-Belonging And Re-Becoming: A Science Teacher Educator’S Self-Study Of Using Pedagogical Tensions To Explore The Shaping Of One’S Pedagogical Approaches, Hlologelo Climant Khoza
International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning
The education landscape continues to change as perpetuated by crises like COVID-19 propelling teachers to adapt and change their pedagogical approaches. As a mid-career science teacher educator, having developed ways of teaching, I experienced pedagogical tensions that were unsettling during COVID-19, thus threatening what I already knew about teaching pre-service teachers. In this self-study, I used the construct of pedagogical equilibrium as a theoretical lens to understand how these pedagogical tensions shape my pedagogical approaches to teaching pre-service teachers in the present time. Data were collected through journaling and discussions with critical friends. These data sets were transformed into narratives …

Prevalence Of Well Water Contaminants In Georgia From 2010-2022, Angelique B. Willis, Suhasini Ramisetty-Mikler, Christine E. Stauber, Uttam Kumar Saha
Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association
Background: Safe, reliable, and clean drinking water sources are a basic necessity. More than 1.7 million individuals rely on private wells for drinking water in Georgia and are confronted with water quality challenges stemming from chemical contamination as private wells are not under mandated regulations as public water supplies. In Georgia, previous studies suggested that the variation of soil and rock in a physiographic province (region) plays an essential role in the quality of private well water. There is a need to understand the distribution of these chemical contaminants above the federal Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) and how different geologies …

From Interactions To Brand Value Co-Creation: How Internal And External Stakeholders Drive Consumer-Generated Branding, Vaibhav Shwetangbhai Diwanji, Juliann Cortese
Journal of Applied Marketing Theory
Brand value co-creation (BVCC), a key concept in service-dominant logic (SDL) and identity-based brand management approach (IBBMA), plays a critical role in branding. However, the integrated roles of internal stakeholders (e.g., brand practitioners) and external stakeholders (e.g., consumers) in this process are not fully understood. Existing research has focused on either internal or external perspectives in isolation. This study addresses this gap by exploring the concept of consumer-generated branding (CGB) through the combined lens of both internal and external brand stakeholders. The findings show that as brand value becomes more experience-driven, meaningful interactions between consumers and marketers can lead to …

Enhancing Cnns Via Structural Intervention With Xgboost, Cemil Emre Yavas, Lei Chen, Christopher Kadlec, Jongyeop Kim
Computing: Faculty Publications
This research investigates a novel hybridization strategy between Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and gradient-boosted decision trees to enhance image classification accuracy. While conventional approaches focus on optimizing either CNN architectures or machine learning algorithms independently, we propose that intervening in the architecture itself—by strategically replacing the dense classifier portion of the CNN with a tree-based learner—can yield superior results. In our study, we construct a CNN composed of three convolutional blocks, each followed by ReLU activation, max-pooling, and dropout layers. Instead of proceeding through the final dense layers, we extract features immediately after the Flatten layer and input them into …
Combinatorial Rigidity And Flexibility Of Simplicial 2-Complexes With Few Vertices, Serge A. Lawrence, Abdulkarim M. Magomedov, Olga I. Chelyapina, Valentina M. Rudenko
Combinatorial Rigidity And Flexibility Of Simplicial 2-Complexes With Few Vertices, Serge A. Lawrence, Abdulkarim M. Magomedov, Olga I. Chelyapina, Valentina M. Rudenko
Theory & Applications of Graphs
We study the problem of reconstruction of a simplicial 2-complex from its 1- skeleton together with the prescribed quantities of 2-simplices at each 1-simplex, under the restriction that these quantities are bounded above by 2. It is a known fact that a 2-complex is uniquely reconstructible, or “combinatorially rigid”, if it has 5 or fewer vertices. In this paper “combinatorially flexible” 2-complexes (that is, non-uniquely reconstructible from their 1-skeletons) with 6 vertices are characterized in terms of necessary 2-subcomplexes.

Examining Net Promoter Score (Nps) For Recommending Products In Export Markets: A Case Of Turkish Products And Brands In The United States, Aycan Duran Tekoglu, Musa Pinar, Faruk Guder
AMTP Proceedings 2025
This study examines the Net Promoter Score (NPS) for recommending products in the export market by exploring the impact of various factors on NPS for Turkish products and brands in the United States. Specifically, the research considers factors that include industry or product categories, the information sources used to learn about the products, the years of purchasing, and consumer demographics. As a first study applying NPS in an international marketing context, the findings based on 427 surveys provided insights into the most purchased product categories, sources of information consumers use, NPS, and the impact of consumer demographics on NPS. Overall …

How Do College Students’ Regulatory Focus Shape Their Behavioral Outcome Towards Institutes Of Higher Education? The Role Of Cognitive Flexibility And Social Perceptiveness, Saurabh Singh, Sarath Nonis
AMTP Proceedings 2025
Colleges and Universities across the United States are witnessing a decline in overall freshman enrollments. The latest data suggests that in 2023 there was an overall decline in enrollment of 5% among first year incoming freshman students across the country (Wood, 2024). To generate favorable attitude among current or potential students, institutions of higher education have adopted the use of social media channels for communication with students (Perera et. al., 2023). Through this paper, we address the critical question of how institutes of higher education can maximize students’ commitment, sense of belonging, as well as positive word of mouth intentions …
Exploring The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Higher Education: A Comparative Study On Grading Methods And The Technology Acceptance Model, Roberto Bello
AMTP Proceedings 2025
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT has transformed higher education, offering innovative solutions for personalized learning and grading. This study investigates students’ perceptions and acceptance of AI-assisted grading compared to traditional teaching assistant (TA) grading using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The research explores how grading methods and exam formats influence key TAM constructs such as perceived usefulness, ease of use, and behavioral intentions. Findings suggest that mixed exam formats (70% multiple-choice, 30% short-answer) yield the highest acceptance rates for AI-assisted grading, emphasizing the importance of balanced assessment structures. The study highlights the …

Role Of Eye-Tracking Technology And Software Algorithms In Enhancing Adhd Detection And Diagnosis: A Systematic Literature Review, Lauren E. Perkins
Role Of Eye-Tracking Technology And Software Algorithms In Enhancing Adhd Detection And Diagnosis: A Systematic Literature Review, Lauren E. Perkins
Honors College Theses
This systematic literature review explores the role of eye-tracking technology and software algorithms in enhancing the detection and diagnosis of ADHD. ADHD, a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting both children and adults, is traditionally diagnosed through behavioral assessments, which may lack objectivity. Recent studies suggest that eye-tracking, specifically focusing on saccades, fixations, and blink rates, offers the potential for more accurate and objective measures of ADHD. The review examines clinical trials, observational studies, and machine learning research to assess the correlation between ADHD and eye movement patterns. Results indicate that individuals with ADHD exhibit distinct eye movement patterns, which can be quantified …
Component Order Edge Connectivity, Vertex Degrees, And Integer Partitions, Michael R. Yatauro
Component Order Edge Connectivity, Vertex Degrees, And Integer Partitions, Michael R. Yatauro
Theory & Applications of Graphs
Given a finite, simple graph G, the k-component order connectivity (resp. edge connectivity) of G is the minimum number of vertices (resp. edges) whose removal results in a subgraph in which every component has an order of at most k − 1. In general, determining the k-component order edge connectivity of a graph is NP-hard. We identify conditions on the vertex degrees of G that can be used to imply a lower bound on the k-component order edge connectivity of G. We will discuss the process for generating such conditions for a lower bound of 1 or 2, and we …
Exploring Tiers Of Vocabulary In Mathematics (Middle And Secondary Levels), Janel Smith
Exploring Tiers Of Vocabulary In Mathematics (Middle And Secondary Levels), Janel Smith
Empowering Educators Conference
Across Georgia, teachers are working to implement the basics of the Science of Reading across all disciplines - including mathematics. A key component of the shifts focuses on vocabulary instruction that is developmentally appropriate to all learners.
In this session, participants will explore vocabulary terms from mathematics content through the organizational framework of tiered vocabulary (Beck, McKeown, Kucan, 2013). Along with a discussion of the use of this framework, several instructional strategies will be modeled and practiced.
This session is focused on middle and secondary levels of instruction.
