Community And Decomposition Dynamics Along A Saltwater Intrusion Gradient On Sapelo Island, Georgia, Zach Gordon
Community And Decomposition Dynamics Along A Saltwater Intrusion Gradient On Sapelo Island, Georgia, Zach Gordon
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Saltwater intrusion, the movement of ocean water into freshwater, is a significant global threat to coastal freshwater ecosystems linked to both climate change and anthropogenic influences. Alterations to coastal landscapes can increase intrusion. Sapelo Island has an extensive history of agricultural landscape alteration, but freshwater flow decline increased the movement of saltwater inland by tides. Intrusion is expected to increase in frequency and magnitude due to rising sea levels and storms. Salinization puts inland habitats and the humans relying on them at risk. As saltwater is denser than freshwater, more pressure is placed on benthic organisms (i.e., macroinvertebrates) that will …
School And Community Factors That Influence Retention Of Highly Qualified Teachers In A Small Rural School District, Brian C. Scott
School And Community Factors That Influence Retention Of Highly Qualified Teachers In A Small Rural School District, Brian C. Scott
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
The retention of teachers has long been a concern among schools of all sizes and locations throughout the United States. In addition to school related factors, often small, rural communities lack the services and amenities of larger districts. This combination of school related shortcomings and lack of community offerings has created a critical teacher shortage for many small, rural school districts and requires urgent attention in regard to teacher retention strategies.
This quantitative study focused on the impacts of both school and community related factors as related to teacher retention in a small, rural school district. Using survey data, this …

This qualitative research examines urban Title I elementary school principals’ perceptions of their family engagement readiness based on university leadership preparation and/or district-level professional development. Based on Epstein's Theory of Overlapping Spheres of Influence, this research examines how educational leaders overcome socioeconomic inequities, trust problems, and communication failures to develop equitable relationships with families. Themes that revealed preparation deficiencies and prospective high-impact family engagement methods emerged from semi-structured interviews and ongoing comparison analysis. Principals value family engagement and recognize its impact on student achievement and school climate, but most feel unprepared to implement systematic, sustainable student engagement strategies. Leadership training …
Fresh Eyes: Viewing Education Through A Critical Lens, Glennda Shealey-Griffiths
Fresh Eyes: Viewing Education Through A Critical Lens, Glennda Shealey-Griffiths
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This dissertation confronts neoliberal ideology in public education, where standardized testing and market-driven accountability systematically undermine teacher autonomy and creative learning. Moving beyond critique to action, this study develops a practical pedagogical framework empowering educators to resist these dehumanizing forces and cultivate democratic learning spaces through arts-integrated professional learning as critical aesthetic pedagogy. Drawing on Henry Giroux, Maxine Greene, Paolo Freire, and Jacques Rancière, this qualitative case study examines a professional learning initiative with public school teachers through interviews, classroom observations, and analysis of participants' photographic projects. These visual works function not merely as documentation but as catalysts for Giroux's …

This study will explore the history of church utilization in the African American community, assess how COVID-19 public health mandates led to church closures for the first time in recent history and impacted this marginalized population, and provide a qualitative perspective on the quality of life during the closures and what changed after the closures for African Americans in …
An Investigative Study Of Thermal Fluid Properties When Introducing Metallic Nanoparticles Through A Heat Exchanging System, Levi P. Mckinney
An Investigative Study Of Thermal Fluid Properties When Introducing Metallic Nanoparticles Through A Heat Exchanging System, Levi P. Mckinney
College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
Heat-exchanging systems are essential in applications ranging from automobiles to air-conditioning units, and ongoing improvements aim to enhance efficiency while reducing system size. Conventional coolant upgrades often rely on ethylene glycol, which increases thermal stability and lowers freezing point but reduces water’s inherent heat-transfer capability. Advances in nanotechnology provide an alternative approach: suspending nanoparticles in base fluids can significantly modify thermal properties, with some formulations exhibiting conductivity increases of up to 60%. This thesis examines the thermal and tribological performance of three working fluids—distilled water, a 50:50 water–ethylene glycol mixture, and the same mixture enhanced with Al₂O₃ nanoparticles. Distilled water …

College of Graduate Studies: Theses & Dissertations
This thesis explores the intersections of indigeneity, mestizaje, and decolonial aesthetics through a mixed-media art practice rooted in Salvadoran history and identity. Drawing on ancestral traditions such as indigo dyeing and backstrap weaving, Guanacos de Corazón investigates how materiality, folklore, and handcraft function as forms of visual resistance, meaning art that disrupts dominant narratives, critiques systems of power, and reclaims erased cultural memory.
Through formal analysis, historical context, and interviews with Salvadoran artists, this thesis challenges ideas of mestizaje that promote cultural and ethnic superiority and contribute to the erasure of ancestral beliefs.
How do we rescue ancestral traditions that …

Ankle Dorsiflexion Range Of Motion And Its Association With Semi-Professional Female Soccer Player's Overall Performance, Lily G. Nolan
Honors College Theses
Lower extremity injury screening is a common tool in soccer due to the changes of direction, jumping, landing, and cutting maneuvers players must exhibit. Talocrural dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM), vertical jump (VJ) and unilateral hop tests are used to assess ankle and knee injury risk. Further, DFROM asymmetries may present a higher risk than reduced DFROM alone. It is unknown how DFROM asymmetries affect these tests. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between DFROM and hop and VJ performance, and to examine the differences between those with and without DFROM asymmetries. The current results …
