Practising Digital Product Passport For Circular Supply Chain: Ecosystem Orchestration Perspective, Martin Agyemang, Daniel Faibil, Richard Asante, Cristina Iodice
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Digital product passports (DPP) are emerging as an important tool to support industries in realising circular supply chain (CSC) practices. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) remain constrained by various challenges in implementing DPP. Therefore, using social practice theory and ecosystem orchestration perspective, the study identifies factors essential for DPP-enabled CSC implementation by SMEs. The study proposes an actionable framework to classify and operationalise these factors. We collected data from managers and analysed it using the Best–Worst Method and Fuzzy-DEMATEL to understand the interdependence, coordination and temporal adaptation of the factors. The findings show that material factors are particularly salient …

Protomix: Unified Prototype Learning For Semantic Change Detection In Remote Sensing, Hengzhi Chen, Kun Hu, Patrick Filippi, Wei Xiang, Thomas Francis Bishop, Zhiyong Wang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
As an emerging topic, semantic change detection (SCD) in remote sensing aims to both identify the locations of changes before and after events and determine the land cover (LC) classes of changed regions. While deep learning has demonstrated its great potential for SCD, the following two fundamental challenges remain: large variations among the same LC class as well as close similarity between different LC classes, and the severe underutilization of massive unchanged regions, which dominate remote sensing scenes but lack detailed semantic annotations. To address these issues, we propose a novel prototype learning framework for SCD, namely ProtoMix, by leveraging …

Rrto: A High-Performance Transparent Offloading System For Model Inference In Mobile Edge Computing, Zekai Sun, Xiuxian Guan, Zheng Lin, Yuhao Qing, Haoze Song, Zihan Fang, Zhe Chen, Fangming Liu, Heming Cui, Wei Ni, Jun Luo
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Deploying Machine Learning (ML) applications on resource-constrained mobile devices remains challenging due to limited computational resources and poor platform compatibility. While Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) offers an offloading-based inference paradigm using GPU servers, existing approaches can be divided into non-transparent and transparent methods, with the former necessitating source-code modifications. Non-transparent offloading achieves high performance but requires intrusive code changes, limiting compatibility with diverse applications. Transparent offloading, in contrast, offers wide compatibility but introduces two challenges: performance degradation under MEC's low and fluctuating bandwidth, where per-operator remote procedure calls (RPCs) inflate end-to-end latency and energy consumption; and black-box logic reconstruction, which …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Ngilgi Cave, Western Australia’s first show cave and a site of Wardandi custodianship for tens of thousands of years, has long been celebrated for its “remarkable acoustics”. This reputation is anchored in the early twentieth-century anecdote of Dame Nellie Melba singing in its Amphitheatre chamber. This paper presents a quantitative acoustic characterisation of that chamber using in situ measurements within a nominal 2500 m3 interconnected limestone volume with dense speleothem surfaces. Room acoustic parameters were measured as per ISO 3382–1 across four receiver positions spanning 1–15 m from the source. Spatially-averaged mid-frequency Reverberation Time was 1.2 s, Early Decay Time …

When Does The Peak Countermovement Jump Performance Occur? Mapping Peak-Trial Timing Across Six Clustered Repetitions, Karol Kruczek, Szymon Karpęcki, Tim Gabbett, Jason Lake, Michał Nowak
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Force-plate countermovement jump (CMJ) testing is widely used to assess neuromuscular status, yet monitoring interpretation often relies on best-trial values from abbreviated protocols, potentially biasing conclusions when the session maximum occurs beyond the sampled attempts. We mapped peak-trial timing across a six-trial clustered (3 + 3) CMJ protocol for seven outcome and strategy force–time metrics, and tested whether this peak-trial pattern was preserved between personal best (PB) and typical state (TS) monitoring sessions, both defined using modified reactive strength index (mRSI) as the primary selection variable. Retrospective dual-force-plate data (1000 Hz; August 2020–December 2025) were analysed from 314 athletes who …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Introduction: Nearly half a million Australians experience workplace injury or illness each year, and return-to-work rates have declined, particularly for psychological conditions. Practitioners use goal setting to structure return-to-work planning and are directed by national guidance to set SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound) goals. How practitioners apply these criteria across different injuries and illnesses is not well understood. This study examined practitioners’ perspectives on goal setting in workers’ compensation rehabilitation in Australia, with a focus on SMART goals.
Methods: A cross-sectional online survey of Australian healthcare practitioners who treated physical conditions, psychological conditions, or both, was conducted. Quantitative data …

Fresh fruits play a vital role in ensuring food and nutritional security, while also making significant contributions to global trade. However, due to their highly perishable nature, they are susceptible to postharvest losses during storage, transportation, and marketing. Edible coatings (ECs) and edible films are effective postharvest preservation technologies for retarding senescence and preserving fruit quality. This review provides a comprehensive update on recent developments in ECs and films aimed at reducing postharvest losses in fresh fruits. These coatings are formulated using biopolymers, including polysaccharides, proteins, and lipids, along with food-grade additives. The review discusses how ECs modulate postharvest physiology …

Psag: Projection-Based Stabilized Attribution Guidance For Online Continual Learning, Hang Yu, Kun Hu, Zhuqiang Lu, Steven Qiang Lu, Zhiyong Wang, Fengxiang He
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Online Continual Learning (OCL) aims to incrementally learn from non-stationary data streams in a one-pass setting, facing the dual challenges of catastrophic forgetting and insufficient training. These challenges intensify the stability-plasticity dilemma, where pre-serving old knowledge conflicts with acquiring new information. In this paper, we propose Projection-based Stabilized Attribution Guidance (PSAG), a modular framework that leverages gradient-based attributions as active guidance signals to selectively preserve task-relevant representations. Our framework consists of three complementary mechanisms: (1) Attribution-Guided Feature Modulation (AGFM) that anchors critical features in the representation space; (2) Importance-Aware Loss Reweighting (IALR) that prioritizes informative samples at the loss level; …
Re-Thinking Bodies In Cross-Border Physical Education Teacher Education Policies: A Posthuman Perspective, Valeria Varea, Erik Backman
Re-Thinking Bodies In Cross-Border Physical Education Teacher Education Policies: A Posthuman Perspective, Valeria Varea, Erik Backman
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
While posthumanist studies have increased in Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE), traditional analytical approaches are still often employed for the analysis of policy documents, which limits the ways that we can understand policy work. The aim of this paper is to explore how bodies are conceptualised and assembled in PETE policies in one institution from Sweden and one from Australia using a posthumanist perspective. We understand these policies as material doings and enactments of the world that can allow us to think differently about PETE. By using the concepts of assemblage and plugging in, three result categories are presented: (1) …

Introduction: Intrapleural tissue plasminogen activator/deoxyribonuclease (tPA/DNase) therapy has revolutionised management of pleural infection. However, the optimal tPA dose is still unknown. The Alteplase Dose Assessment for Pleural infection Therapy (ADAPT) study-3 aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a lower starting intrapleural dose of 1 mg tPA (with 5 mg DNase) for pleural infection.
Methods: Consecutive patients with pleural infection who required intrapleural fibrinolytic therapy were treated with 1 mg tPA/5 mg DNase. Escalation of tPA doses were permitted at any time at the discretion of treating physicians.
Results: A total of 100 patients (22% female, mean age = …

Violence and domestic violence are global public health problems with prevention programs showing limited effectiveness. The form of delivery of such programs can influence their utility yet delivery characteristics are often poorly described. We analysed interviews with clinicians (n = 5) and participants (n = 12) involved in ReINVEST, a violence reduction clinical trial, to identify key elements of delivery. Three themes were identified: (1) clinician accessibility; (2) clinicians as participant advocates; and (3) humane care, reflecting participant–clinician ‘relationality’ as a central component of program delivery. We propose that this relationality is more likely to emerge in interventions delivered independently …

Background: Effective postnatal newborn care provision is proven to be one effective strategy to reduce neonatal and under-five mortality. Despite the presence of small-scale studies that reported crude coverage of postnatal newborn care, nationwide evidence about effective postnatal newborn care coverage and evidence regarding the status of wealth-related inequality are limited in Tanzania. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the status of wealth-related inequality and determinants in effective coverage of postnatal newborn care in Tanzania.
Methods: A secondary data analysis was conducted based on cross-sectional data from the 2022 Tanzania Demographic and Health Survey. 4335 weighted samples of reproductive age-women …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Aim: To explore nurses' perspectives on decision-making processes and influencing factors when caring for unresponsive dying patients in the last days of life. Design: A qualitative interpretive study.
Methods: Using purposive recruitment and informal peer referral, twenty-one nurses from a specialist palliative care service in a metropolitan city in Australia were interviewed between July 2024 and January 2025. Data were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Decision-making theory was used as an interpretive lens.
Findings: Two themes were generated: ‘The patient as an absent presence’ and ‘Enacting agency through embodied cognition and relational attunement’, together with five interconnected subthemes. The analysis …

Colour Segmentation In Coffee Berry Recognition: Light And Texture Convergence For Single-Overflight Frugal Agro-Diagnostics In Smallholder Coffee Environments, Cook David, Chris Napier, Leisa Armstrong
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Smallholder coffee plantations are disadvantaged compared to larger coffee estates because they lack the digital sophistication to perform regular investigation of crops for signs of berry disease and poor berry health. Accurate visual recognition of coffee berry health is critical for early detection, particularly by pests such as Hypothenemus hampei. A persistent challenge is distinguishing true signs of infestation, and the pursuit of healthy berries is a contested struggle, classified by the size and scale, and determined by constrained financial decision support systems preventing high-level precision crop evaluation. Much of the precision agriculture discourse ignores smaller concerns in the 2-hectare …
