The Relationship Between Quantity Of Possessions Transported And Homesickness In Migrants, Rosalynn M. Morrow

The study addresses the relationship between the quantity of possessions transported by migrants from their country of origin and reported levels of homesickness. Eighty-nine subjects from the United Kingdom and Eire participated in the study, which was limited to those migrants who have been resident in Australia for less than 5 years (M=2.53). The sample was non random (purposive and accidental), consisting of 51 males and 38 females, and the mean age of the participants on arrival in Australia was 33 years. Schools in Australia and their surrounding communities have become gravely concerned about student behaviour problems. It is now commonly perceived that the violent component of this behaviour is on the increase. In one study, Omaji (1992a) showed that it is unwise for governments not to pay constructive attention to such perception and, also, that research and schools themselves have a critical role to play in dealing with student violence. This research aims to address deficiencies in the Place-Identity literature and establish whether the home is a central and mediating environment within this theory. An exploration of the association between homelessness and Place-Identity provides a vehicle for clarifying the psychological role of the home and in doing so an increased awareness of this social problem is promoted. Korpela's (1989) and Kaplan's (1983) theories on place, accentuating active self-regulatory mechanisms and restorative environments, act as a catalyst and provide a solid foundation for this current research. The Yellagonga Regional Park is located approximately 20 km north of Perth and 6km east of the coast, in the City of Wanneroo. The park is comprised of Lake Joondalup, Beenyup Swamp, Wallubuenup Swamp and Lake Goollelal, a largely directly-linked wetland system and their surrounds. The importance of wetlands within the Perth Metropolitan area is widely documented with only 20% of the pre-European settlement wetlands remaining. This study explored the effect an educational unit on ethical issues in nursing had on the ethical reasoning of practising registered nurses. The educational unit was conducted at a university school of nursing as part of a baccalaureate degree programme for already registered and practising nurses. A quasi-experimental posttest design utilising stratified random samples compared subjects from one group who had undertaken the unit (n=53) with subjects from another group who had not (n=61). Ethical reasoning was measured using Grisham's Nursing Dilemma Test and a researcher designed demographic data sheet provided information on additional variables for analysis.The group which had …

This book was intended primarily for South-west Aboriginal adults who were asking for help in writing their own language.

For a period, many of the South-west people were ashamed to speak their own language in front of "Wetjalas" (i.e. European Australians). A number of factors have changed this attitude so that, to-day, most of the people have become rightly proud of their old culture and language and many are attempting to salvage what they can of the South-west traditions.

In March of 1975, we sent a 192 item, ten-Dimension self-report questIonnaire to 550 educators in British Columbia, Canada, who had attended at least one of two conferences on implementing Open Education. The purpose was to determine via mUltiple discriminant analysis what variables affect the type of program (Open vs. Traditional) being implemented in two type's of facilities (Open Area vs. Self-Contained Classrooms) in a 2 x 2 design. Wheare observed that in countries satisfying in practice his understanding of the federal principle, namely the United States of America, Switzerland, Canada and Australia, education was a matter substantially in the hands of regional (state, canton, provincial) governments.
