Existential Phenomenology's Role In Understanding Minority Cynicism In The American Legal System, Layla Garcia-Brown
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
This paper will discuss the cynicism many people of color have toward the American legal system by using the intersections between existential philosophy, Africana philosophy, black existentialism and phenomenology. This paper will explore the cynicism and lack of trust held by many American minorities toward the American legal and judicial systems primarily through the lenses of philosophy, but additionally, the disciplines of: psychology, political science, criminology and sociology will also be discussed as they are vital and unavoidable disciplines to the discussion. Therefore, the methodology of this paper is intersectionality, meaning that all of the above systems as well as …

Factors Influencing Fundraising Success At Church-Related Colleges And Universities, Jeff G. Cohu
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore and examine factors leading to fundraising success in church-related colleges and universities that have not secularized their Christian mission, governance, and denominational relationships. This study posed research questions concerning both the specific strategies and leadership behaviors used by individual leaders at successful institutions in the church-related niche of higher education.
The methodology used in this qualitative study featured a grounded theory approach blended with some elements of a comparative study approach. Five institutions were selected based on a purposeful sampling strategy. The data collection methods included in-depth, semi-structured interviews with key institutional …

Effects Of Arab American Discrimination Post 9/11 In The Contexts Of The Workplace And Education, Isra Daraiseh
Effects Of Arab American Discrimination Post 9/11 In The Contexts Of The Workplace And Education, Isra Daraiseh
McNair Scholars Research Journal
What is an Arab? What is an Arab American? Are these ethnicities subject to negative treatment by others? Why is it important to recognize these differences in the treatment of Arab Americans and, in particular, in the realm of the workplace and in education? When preparing this literature review, I found little research on the effects of such discrimination on Arab American students. The research I did find indicates that it leads to poor academic performance and self-fulfilling prophecies. With regards to workplace discrimination, and particularly its effect on earnings, I found a decrease in earnings for Arab men and …
