Evaluation Of An Enrichment Culture That Reductively Dechlorinates Γ-Hexachlorocyclohexane, Christina Anderson
Evaluation Of An Enrichment Culture That Reductively Dechlorinates Γ-Hexachlorocyclohexane, Christina Anderson
All Theses
In a previous study using microcosms from a site contaminated with γ- hexachlorocyclohexane (γ-HCH), rapid anaerobic biodegradation of γ-HCH to benzene and chlorobenzene was observed. Enrichment cultures were developed and subsequently transferred to an anaerobic sulfate-free HEPES buffered medium without loss of γ-HCH dechlorination, thus suggesting γ-HCH undergoes anaerobic biodegradation via chlororespiration. The overall objective of this thesis was to further characterize the enrichment culture.
To do so, one specific objective was to determine the effect of vancomycin on γ-HCH in an enrichment culture grown in a sulfate-free HEPES buffered medium using hydrogen as the electron donor. This objective would …

7th Annual Focus On Creative Inquiry Poster Forum Program, Clemson University
Focus on Creative Inquiry
The poster forum today displays a few of the more than 400 projects initiated by Clemson University Creative Inquiry teams.
What is Creative Inquiry? It is small-group learning for all students. It is the imaginative combination of engaged learning and undergraduate research. Ultimately, it is the creation of an Ah-ha! Moment — and it is unique to Clemson University.
Creative Inquiry establishes small teams of undergraduate students that work with faculty mentors to take on problems that spring from their own curiosity, from a professor’s challenge, or from the pressing needs of the world around them. Students take ownership of …

Epic Peters: Pullman Porter, Octavus Roy Cohen
Epic Peters: Pullman Porter, Octavus Roy Cohen
Regional & Local
"Octavus Roy Cohen (June 26, 1891-January 6, 1959) was born in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Octavus Cohen, a lawyer and newspaper editor, and Rebecca Ottolengui. The Cohens were an old and distinguished Jewish family, very much a part of Charleston’s literary society. While Epic Peters: Pullman Porter covers well the black porter of the 1920s, Cohen conveys an intimate knowledge of passenger service on the busy main line of the Southern Railway between Birmingham, Atlanta, Charlotte, Washington, and New York City. Cohen’s work is the next-best-thing to having an oral history of a Pullman porter during the hey-day …
