In this report, we identify a number of accounts that we conclude with a high degree of certainty are from an inauthentic network, and based on communication patterns and message content, conclude that they are operating in support of the Russian government to promote a pro-Putin narrative within the Russian Federation. In this network, we observe interconnectedness between accounts, similarities in narratives, and inauthenticity of the account identities.

Purpose
Blood pressure, cardiac output, and ventricular volumes correlate to various subject features such as age, body size, and exercise intensity. The purpose of this study is to quantify this correlation through regression modeling.
Methods
We conducted a systematic review to compile reference data of healthy subjects for several cardiovascular parameters and subject features. Regression algorithms used these aggregate data to formulate predictive models for the outputs—systolic and diastolic blood pressure, ventricular volumes, cardiac output, and heart rate—against the features—age, height, weight, and exercise intensity. A simulation-based procedure generated data of virtual subjects to test whether these regression models built …

A Positive Youth Development Approach To College And Career Readiness, Shannon Horrillo, Martin Smith, Tamekia Wilkins, Claudia Diaz Carrasco
Journal of Youth Development
Pathways to Your Future is a college and career readiness program for youth in Grades 9 through 12. The program’s curriculum provides youth with resources and opportunities to develop knowledge and learn skills that help them align their sparks with potential careers, while exploring various pathways to enter the workforce. The family component includes a pre-program orientation, a financing and budgeting workshop, and take-home materials. Latino students made up 71% of the study participants. Retrospective pre- and post-program surveys were administered to youth and parents/guardians. Results indicated that the program equipped youth participants with the knowledge and skills to plan …

Building Youth Infrastructure: Early Lessons From The Youth Systems Collaborative, Clare Ignatowski, Rachel Blum, Pia Saunders Campbell, Ricardo Perez-Pineda
Building Youth Infrastructure: Early Lessons From The Youth Systems Collaborative, Clare Ignatowski, Rachel Blum, Pia Saunders Campbell, Ricardo Perez-Pineda
Journal of Youth Development
In recent years the international youth development field has increasingly acknowledged that purposeful action at the systems level is critical for achieving positive outcomes for youth, sustainably, equitably, and at scale. In 2018 a group of international organizations formed the Youth Systems Collaborative, a community of practice whose aim is to promote international learning on youth systems change efforts. Building from the collective learning of this group, this paper offers a framework for understanding how widespread and sustained positive youth development outcomes can be achieved in low- and middle-income countries. Five enablers that advance systems change are presented: stakeholder collaboration; …
Deconstructing The Role Of Adult Facilitators In Research Led By Young People, Patricio Cuevas-Parra
Deconstructing The Role Of Adult Facilitators In Research Led By Young People, Patricio Cuevas-Parra
Journal of Youth Development
Academia and practice have increased their investment in young peoples’ participation. One key approach has been the shift from extracting data from young people to engaging them as researchers. Drawing on 2 case studies with young Syrian refugees and Bangladeshi young people, this paper critically reflects on the tensions between participation, power, and ethics whilst engaging young people as lead researchers. There are dual objectives to young people-led research: (a) the empowerment of young people as investigators and (b) the study of issues important to young people. If not clearly established from the outset, these objectives may be in conflict. …

Implementation Of Anyaka Makwiri: A Multicomponent Mentoring Program For Adolescent Girls And Young Women In Uganda, Kate Plourde, Geeta Nanda, Elise Healy, Dennis Kibwola
Journal of Youth Development
This article describes the development and implementation of the Anyaka Makwiri program and summarizes results from the qualitative assessment of participant experiences. Anyaka Makwiri is a multicomponent mentoring program developed for adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) ages 15 to 24 in Gulu, Uganda. The comprehensive program consisted of a curriculum covering sexual and reproductive health (SRH), financial capabilities, soft skills, and gender-based violence and gender equality; activities designed to improve participants’ social connectedness; optional onsite testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV, and pregnancy along with STI treatment; group-based savings; and links to SRH services, including contraceptive and gender-based …

Measuring Adolescent Participation: Results From A Qualitative Pretest In Côte D’Ivoire And Indonesia, Carlye Gates, Patricia Lebaron, Timothy Flanigan, Colleen Murray
Journal of Youth Development
Adolescence, or the period of transition between childhood and adulthood, is a significant stage in human development. Not only is it a time of physical growth and neurological development, but it is also a time when many young people begin to expand their networks beyond their family, form close ties with their peers, develop and express their views, and have a greater desire to be involved in decisions that affect them. This act of forming and expressing their views and influencing matters that concern them is sometimes referred to as adolescent participation. When viewed through an international human rights lens, …

On The Right Path: Youth Development Amidst Colombia’S Sociocultural Transition, Holly Follmer-Reece, Paulina Velez-Gomez, Nadia Semenova Moratto-Vásquez, Sara Dodd
Journal of Youth Development
Colombia is amidst a sociocultural transition due to recent political movements towards ending the long-standing internal armed conflict. Development and implementation of youth programs that are responsive to the current societal context can contribute to this transition by investing in younger generations. This study features findings from the exploration phase of a community-based participatory research study to adapt a youth program from the United States for implementation in Colombia. Through focus group interviews, participants representing 4 different microsystems surrounding youth shared perceptions of youth who will be successful in this transitional context. Perceptions coalesced to reveal a process of positive …
Longitudinal Research About, And Program Evaluations Of, Positive Youth Development In Low- And Middle-Income Countries: Methodological Issues And Options, Richard Lerner, Jonathan Tirrell, Patricia Gansert, Jacqueline Lerner
Longitudinal Research About, And Program Evaluations Of, Positive Youth Development In Low- And Middle-Income Countries: Methodological Issues And Options, Richard Lerner, Jonathan Tirrell, Patricia Gansert, Jacqueline Lerner
Journal of Youth Development
The study of positive youth development (PYD) requires theory-based methodological considerations pertinent to measurement, research and program design, and data analysis. We outline the appropriate steps that researchers and program evaluators must enact to address these methodological foci in their respective attempts to describe, explain, and optimize the course of positive development among diverse youth around the world. We focus on longitudinal (developmental) research designed to evaluate programs promoting PYD in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where life challenges are shaped by multiple adverse situations associated with racism, poverty, gender inequalities, political inequities, and the absence of adequate health and …

Positive Youth Development In Senegal: A Case Study Of 4-H Senegal, Thomas Archibald, Bineta Guisse, Amadou Ndiaye, Fatimata Kane
Journal of Youth Development
African youth face great challenges and great opportunities. Positive youth development (PYD) programs have the potential to support youth in Africa to reach their full potential. Yet PYD approaches must be tailored if they are to be contextually and culturally responsive and relevant. The purpose of this paper is to provide an evidence-informed description of one such program, the 4-H Senegal PYD program. We first provide a conceptual background for the program, informed especially by the literature on global and cross-cultural PYD. We then share empirical results of a qualitative case study focused on the establishment, scale-up, and institutionalization of …
Validation Of A Protective And Promotive Factors Measure: The Youth Thrive Survey, Charlyn Harper Browne, Lisa Mishraky-Javier
Validation Of A Protective And Promotive Factors Measure: The Youth Thrive Survey, Charlyn Harper Browne, Lisa Mishraky-Javier
Journal of Youth Development
This article describes the background, development, and validation of the strengths-based, youth-driven Youth Thrive Survey which measures the 5 protective and promotive factors delineated in the Youth Thrive Framework; specifically: youth resilience, social connections, knowledge of adolescent development, concrete support in times of need, and cognitive and social–emotional competence. Draft instruments were created that included new items and adapted items from existing validated instruments. Revisions were based on feedback from young people who participated in focus groups, cognitive interviews, and field testing. Cronbach’s alpha was calculated to measure internal consistency and reliability of the full instrument and the 5 protective …
Framing Indigenous Identity Inclusion In Positive Youth Development: Proclaimed Ignorance, Partial Vacuum, And The Peoplehood Model, Joshua Farella, Joshua Moore, Juan Arias, Jeremy Elliott-Engel
Framing Indigenous Identity Inclusion In Positive Youth Development: Proclaimed Ignorance, Partial Vacuum, And The Peoplehood Model, Joshua Farella, Joshua Moore, Juan Arias, Jeremy Elliott-Engel
Journal of Youth Development
Indigenous youth are systemically underserved by 4-H and other positive youth development (PYD) organizations. Many underserved First Nation communities in the United States could greatly benefit from programs that foster youth thriving; however, these programs tend to be ineffective in creating culturally reflective spaces for Indigenous participants. In this article, we argue that the Peoplehood Model should serve as a unifying model for the inclusion of Indigenous identity in programming, and that cultural humility should be firmly integrated into program design and assessment. We also propose that, to support Indigenous youth thriving, PYD practitioners must intentionally create a “partial vacuum” …
The Complexities Of Student Engagement For Historically Marginalized Youth In An After-School Program, Ashlee Sjogren, Theresa Melton
The Complexities Of Student Engagement For Historically Marginalized Youth In An After-School Program, Ashlee Sjogren, Theresa Melton
Journal of Youth Development
As researchers continue to address issues of equity within educational settings, it is important to also consider the role of equity in high-quality after-school programs. Evidence suggests that families from communities with fewer resources, along with families that identify as Black or Hispanic, report less access to quality after-school programming for their youth (Afterschool Alliance, 2020). This is especially problematic, as after-school programming has been associated with a number of positive outcomes for youth. In this study, researchers highlight youth perspectives to illuminate the challenges related to engaging historically marginalized youth in a school-based after-school program. Findings suggest that youth …

Increasing Latinx Youth Engagement Across Different Types Of After-School Organizations, Fe Moncloa, Nancy Erbstein, Aarti Subramaniam
Journal of Youth Development
This article explores how Latinx youth engagement practices vary across different types of out-of-school organizations that successfully sustain Latinx youth participation. Data are drawn from a qualitative study of 13 California organizations that each emphasize one of 3 missions: social justice youth development, “one-stop” wrap-around services, or academic enrichment. While all organizations are found to adhere to a core set of Latinx youth development guiding principles, there are nuanced differences in how they are operationalized in practice across varied organization types, reflecting variation in terms of discourse, scale, and scope. These findings highlight the need for youth development practitioners and …
