This case report describes the synergistic effects of dietary deficiencies and a concurrent hemoparasitic infection in a seven-month-old male African lion cub (Panthera leo) weighing 30 kg, housed at Audu Bako Zoological Garden in Kano, Nigeria. Background: Methylphenidate, a Schedule II psychostimulant, is indicated for ADHD in children ≥6 years when other measures fail, with unclear adult indications beyond narcolepsy. Global use increases necessitate robust pharmacovigilance, especially in low/middle-income countries like Thailand where safety data is sparse. This study characterized methylphenidate-associated adverse events (AEs) in Thailand, analyzing product types and patient factors.

Methods: Spontaneous Thai Vigibase™ reports (2005-2024) were analyzed alongside national distribution data. AEs were MedDRA-coded and stratified by age, sex, indication, formulation (original/generic; immediate/extended-release), allergy history, and comorbidities. The aim of this study was to investigate hematological and biochemical alterations associated with gram-negative bacterial lower urinary tract infections (UTIs) in dogs and cats. For this purpose, 56 dogs and 36 cats were examined between October 2022 and May 2023. Twenty-eight dogs and twenty-two cats with clinical signs of lower UTIs were confirmed using ultrasonography, urinalysis, hematobiochemical analysis, and molecular identification of recovered pathogen. In dogs, UTIs were significantly associated with pyuria (82%), crystalluria (85.7%), and proteinuria. Neonatal abdominal surgery was often indicated by congenital conditions, presenting significant risks of morbidity and mortality. However, comprehensive surgical data and identification of complication-related risk factors still receive little attention.

The Syrian hamster (Mesocricetus auratus) is the most commonly presented hamster species in veterinary practice, yet descriptive echocardiographic values remain limited, particularly under conscious conditions.
