Faust's Self-Realization From A Buddhist Perspective, Pornsan Watananguhn

The aim of this paper is to investigate the differences between "self-realization" within Christian-western philosophy and Faust's self-realization in Goethe's tragedy as received and interpreted in a Buddhist society. Further, the article examines in what way the author Goethe shows an ironical and critical attitudes towards Faust's life and how can Faust be redeemed from the guilt and set himself free from the "karma's" law of cause and effect.

Fantasy has played a crucial role in shaping literature since time immemorial. Yet, proper systematic work on fantasy has not been done until the last century, when scholars began to realize its importance and give it due recognition. First published in 1970, Tzvetan Todorov's The Fantastic: A Structural Approach to a Literary Genre represents one of the touchstones of critical work on the fantastic genre. His pioneering ideas have inspired literary critics worldwide to develop their own premises on the genre, some of which bear Todorov's indelible imprints. Thai Way Of Saying 'No' To A Request, Nattaporn Panpothong

This paper investigates what Thai speakers say when they prefer to reject a request and how they make their refusal less face-threatening. Five different situations including refusing a high status teacher, a low status housemaid, a close friend, a classmate, and a stranger are examined. The study has found that for Thai speakers, a teacher and a close friend are more difficult to reject than a low status, a classmate, and a stranger. Even though most of the respondents are not reluctant to reject people at further distance, they prefer to appear polite in refusing their requests. In the politeness …

The Establishment Of The Neutral Passive And The Persistence Of The Adversative Passive In Thai, Amara Prasithrathsint

Manusya, Journal of Humanities

This study traces the development of the adversative and neutral passives in Thai to draw inferences about their establishment and change. It shows how the word /thùuk/, which used to occur with only a verb with unfavorable meaning to form an adversative passive, is now used with virtually all transitive verbs in Thai. This suggests that the neutral passive has been established in Thai syntax. However, /thùuk/ is ambivalent because it marks both adversative and neutral passives. This means that the adversative passive still persists in Thai, but it is now likely to be marked by /doon/, which has a …

This article introduces readers to the concept of privacy in two discourses- a western liberal discourse and a Thai scholarly discourse. It is divided into two sections accordingly. The first part of the article discusses the philosophical and historical roots of the privacy concept, its importance in various dimensions, and an evolving debate whether privacy is a universal moral value. The second part is a review of related literature on privacy in Thailand.

บาดทะยัก (Tetanus) เป็นโรคที่เกิดจากแบคทีเรียชื่อ Clostridium Tetani ซึ่งเป็น Anaerobic bacteria ทำให้เกิดโรคที่มีอาการทารุณต่อผู้ป่วยมาก และยังมีอัตราการตายค่อนข้างสูง แต่เมื่อผู้ป่วยหายแล้ว จะไม่มี Neurological deficit หลงเหลือเลย และข้อที่น่าสนใจอีกประการหนึ่ง คือ Immunization สำหรับโรคบาดทะยัก ได้ผลดีเกือบ 100 เปอร์เซนต์ มีอันตรายจากการฉีดวัคซีนน้อยมาก และราคาถูกมาก แต่เราก็ยังพบผู้ป่วยบาดทะยัก อยู่เสมอในประเทศของเรา

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างปัจจัยส่วนบุคคล สภาพแวดล้อมใน การทำงาน และการได้รับการเสริมสร้างพลังอํานาจในงานของหัวหน้ากลุ่มงานการพยาบาล กับการรับรู้ ความสามารถด้านการจัดการของหัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วย กลุ่มตัวอย่าง คือ หัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วยใน โรงพยาบาลศูนย์ สังกัดกระทรวงสาธารณสุข จํานวน 277 คน \nผลการวิจัยพบว่า หัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วยมีการรับรู้ความสามารถด้านการจัดการโดยรวมอยู่ในระดับสูง ปัจจัยส่วนบุคคล ด้านอายุ ระดับการศึกษา ประสบการณ์ในตําแหน่ง และการได้รับการอบรม ด้านการบริหาร ไม่มีความสัมพันธ์กับการรับรู้ความสามารถด้านการจัดการของหัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วย สภาพแวดล้อมในการทํางาน และการได้รับการเสริมสร้างพลังอํานาจในงานของหัวหน้ากลุ่มงานการพยาบาล มีความสัมพันธ์ทางบวกกับ การรับรู้ความสามารถด้านการจัดการของหัวหน้าหอผู้ป่วยอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติที่ระดับ .05 (r = .65 และ .43 ตามลำดับ)

การวิจัยครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาถึงการเปลี่ยนแปลงความรู้และเจตคติของนักเรียนภายหลัง การให้ความรู้และประสบการณ์เกี่ยวกับพิษภัยของบุหรี่ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้มีความรู้และเจตคติในการป้องกันตนเอง จากบุหรี่ กลุ่มตัวอย่างเป็นนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 1 โรงเรียนท่าศาลาประสิทธิ์ศึกษา ปีการศึกษา 2541 ทั้งหญิงและชาย จำนวน 474 คน แบ่งเป็นกลุ่มควบคุมและกลุ่มทดลองจำนวน 269 และ 205 คนตามลำดับ กิจกรรมการให้ความรู้ประกอบด้วยการชมวิดีทัศน์ กิจกรรมเกมส์นักข่าว กิจกรรมบทบาทสมมุติเรื่องการปฏิเสธบุหรี่ และกิจกรรมการทดลองทางวิทยาศาสตร์ ประเมินผลโดยใช้แบบสอบถามความรู้และเจตคติ ผลการวิจัยพบว่ากลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้และเจตคติสูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ \nหลังการประเมินผล ครั้งที่ 1 และกลุ่มทดลองมีค่าความรู้สูงกว่ากลุ่มควบคุมอย่างมีนัยสําคัญทางสถิติ หลังการติดตามผล 1 ปี ส่วนเจตคติไม่แตกต่างกัน

การวิจัยครั้งนี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงพรรณา เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างปัจจัยส่วนบุคคล ซึ่งได้แก่ อายุ ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ครอบครัว ความสามารถในการเบิกค่ารักษา อาการวิตกกังวลซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัย และ อาการวิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญ ของหญิงตั้งครรภ์ที่มีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง กลุ่มตัวอย่างคือ หญิงตั้งครรภ์ ที่ได้รับการวินิจฉัยว่ามีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง และได้เข้ารับการรักษาในหอผู้ป่วยสูติกรรม 3 คณะแพทย ศาสตร์ โรงพยาบาลรามาธิบดี ในระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม 2541 ถึง มีนาคม 2543 เก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลโดย ใช้แบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลด้วยโปรแกรม SPSS. FW Version 7.5 ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ระดับการศึกษา รายได้ครอบครัว ความสามารถในการเบิกค่ารักษาพยาบาลมีความสัมพันธ์ทางลบกับอาการวิตกกังวล ซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัย อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ อาการวิตกกังวลซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัยมีความสําคัญทางบวกกับอาการ วิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญอย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ระดับอาการวิตกกังวล ซึ่งเป็นอุปนิสัยและระดับการศึกษา สามารถร่วมกันทำนายอาการวิตกกังวลขณะเผชิญได้ร้อยละ 14.5 อย่างมีนัยสำคัญทางสถิติ ผลการวิจัย ครั้งนี้พยาบาลสามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้ในการดูแลหญิงตั้งครรภ์ ซึ่งมีอาการแพ้ท้องอย่างรุนแรง โดยการ ให้ข้อมูลกับหญิงตั้งครรภ์เพื่อลดอาการวิตกกังวล และสามารถตั้งครรภ์ต่อไปได้อย่างมีความสุข

Buddhist literature in Thai can be divided as follows: translation of Buddhist literature originally composed in other language, and Buddhist literature originally composed in Thai. The first category consists of works translated from the Buddhist canon such as the Tripitaka and, the Arthhakatha. The famous Dhammapada belongs to this category. This category also includes translations into Thai of Pali works by the famous monks of the Lanna kingdom. Examples include the Chamadevivangsa and the Jinakalamali. The second category consists of literature originally composed in Thai, and its chief exemplar is the Traiphum, written by King Lithai during the Sukhothai period. …
