The Thai Journal of Veterinary Medicine
A native pony, eight years old and male, was tentatively diagnosed with abdominal pain and treated immediately. Sequential hematological profiles revealed increased levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and creatinine, as well as reduced albumin. After the pony's death, which occurred eight days after treatment began, a necropsy was performed. The liver's external surface showed small foci, but no gross lesion was observed in the pancreas, which was enlarged. Haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining of the liver showed multifocal inflammation in the hepatic parenchyma, coinciding with bile duct hyperplasia. A high-grade mast cell tumor of the conjunctiva in the Golden Retriever is a rare condition. Wide excisional conjunctival mass biopsy is suggested, combined with chemotherapy. A 9-year-old neutered female Golden Retriever with a painless conjunctival mass at the right temporal bulbar conjunctiva was presented at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Small Animal Teaching Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Chulalongkorn University. Complete physical and ophthalmic examinations were performed. The metastasis of the primary conjunctival mass was investigated by radiography of the skull, orbit, thorax, and abdomen, as well as by ultrasonography in the orbit and abdomen. A 7-year-old neutered male Poodle exhibited a persistent caudoventral cervical mass with draining lesions characterized by chronic and relapsing features. Upon presentation, the mass measured 7 × 11 × 11.5 cm, containing sanguine fluid. Computed tomography revealed the diffuse extension of the cervical mass from the C3 level to the thoracic inlet, affecting the sternal lymph node. Extensive surgical removal was attempted with meticulous resection to avoid damaging the right jugular vein, carotid sheath, and vagus nerve within the mass. This study examined the safety and productivity of a farrow-to-finish swine farm from 2015 to 2019, in Japan. The farm implemented a farm Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system in July 2016. The critical control point was “the selection of shipping pigs” and the critical limit for preventing contamination with residual antibiotics in pigs was “the withholding period has passed,” while that for preventing contamination with residual needle fragments was “the needle was not included.” No deviations from critical limits were observed, indicating the pigs were safe. Anatomical abnormalities of the trachea leading to respiratory distress. Few reports describe the morphological characterization of the dog’s trachea, particularly in the tracheal cartilaginous rings. In this study, twelve tracheas from mixed-breed dog cadavers were obtained to investigate their features across three anatomical tracheal regions: cervical, thoracic inlet, and intrathoracic trachea. The average length of the trachea was 18.92 ± 0.67 cm. Each trachea contained a different number of tracheal rings, ranging from 32 to 41 rings (37.42 ± 0.81 rings). Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, which is associated with reproductive disorders such as abortion and reproductive problems in ruminants, while paratuberculosis is an underdiagnosed disease caused by Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis (MAP) which causes chronic wasting, low fertility, and mortality in ruminants. The presence of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase and colistin resistance E. coli in food-producing animals is a public health concern. This study was conducted using a rigorous methodology to survey the prevalence of ESBL-producing and colistin-resistant E. coli from pig farms in the central part of Thailand. A total of 519 samples were collected from fecal, feed, and waste in 53 farms located in central Thailand. All samples were inoculated onto selective agar, and species identification was performed using biochemical assays and MAlDI-TOF MS. The present study investigated the effects of dietary supplementation with Lasia spinosa Thw. (LST) on improving boar semen quality. A two-year-old Koi carp or fancy carp (Cyprinus carpio) with a symptom of recurrent positive buoyancy was admitted to the Veterinary Medical Aquatic Animal Research Center of Excellence (VMARCE), Faculty of Veterinary Science, Chulalongkorn University. Radiographic examination with positive contrast media revealed gas accumulation in the gastrointestinal tract without obstruction; subsequently, idiopathic intestinal pseudo-obstruction was suspected. The anti-flatulence drug simethicone was administered, but the fish did not respond to the treatment. Canine heartworm disease is a global mosquito-borne parasitic illness that affects dogs. The main species of filarids responsible for this disease is Dirofilaria immitis. This article specifically explores the use of cardiac biomarkers, such as N-terminal pro B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI), for diagnosing and monitoring canine heartworm disease. These biomarkers can indicate myocardial injury and heart failure, particularly in chronic infections. The study compares the levels of NT-proBNP and cTnI in dogs with heartworm disease, both clinically diagnosed cases and those without symptoms. Brachycephalic airway obstructive syndrome (BAOS) is an anatomical abnormality of the upper airway commonly found in brachycephalic breeds, leading to clinical signs and physical capacity impairment. The degree of stenotic nares was reported to be related to BAOS severity in French bulldogs. This study aimed to compare clinical signs and physical capacity in French bulldogs before and after BAOS surgery using modified Roedler questionnaires and a 6-minute walk test (6-MWT). Flavonol quercetin (Q), found in vegetables and fruits, demonstrates the most potent anti-inflammatory effect. The preventive effect and cellular mechanisms of Q (Q1, Q10, and Q100 µM) on IL-1β induced leaky gut via the signaling molecules of inflammatory pathway, NF-κB p65-iκB/or p38/ERK1/2/MLCK/phospho(p)-MLC were investigated in Caco-2 cells. The cytotoxic effect of Q was initially determined by MTT assay. Surgical sterilization stands as a key solution to address the overpopulation of dogs and cats, with numerous influencing factors impacting the success of population control efforts, including species, gender, and financial conditions. The emergence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), or COVID-19, in 2020 has significantly altered human life and impacted pet animals. Lockdown restrictions were implemented in various countries, including Thailand, affecting the cumulative data of neutered animals, which was subsequently analyzed in this study. The chemotherapy for canine cutaneous epitheliotropic T cell lymphoma (CETL) might cause unpleasant side effects or fail to produce positive results. We attempted a different approach with a more tolerable treatment option. We administered a high dose of oclacitinib (1.6 mg/kg/twice daily) to a patient diagnosed with CETL through histopathological examination and immunocytochemical staining. The patient had previously shown a poor response to chemotherapy and severe side effects to steroids. Within one month of starting oclacitinib treatment, we observed significant improvement in clinical symptoms, followed by improved appetite, increased activity, and weight gain after 2.5 months. A young male Dachshund dog who came to the animal hospital was diagnosed with conjunctivitis on clinical examination. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius was identified as a result of culture and bacteriological examination of the conjunctival swab, and then antimicrobial susceptibility test. Methicillin resistant S. pseudintermedius identified with the VITEK-II Compact device was also confirmed by molecular methods so that susceptible antibiotics were selected for the treatment of the patient and reported. In accordance with the antimicrobial susceptibility results, the patient was treated with an eye drop preparation containing neomycin. A 3-year-old mixed-breed dog presenting with a recurrent maxillofacial tumor was diagnosed with recurrent rhabdomyosarcoma. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a left maxillofacial mass, left cervical lymph node enlargement, epidural mass dorsal to the 6th lumbar vertebra compressing the cauda equina, soft-tissue mass ventral to the 6th lumbar vertebra, multiple subcutaneous nodules and signal changes in the paravertebral muscles. The left maxilla, lumbar spine and ilium exhibited diffuse signal changes and contrast enhancement upon magnetic resonance imaging. This is, to our knowledge, the first reported case of bone marrow and epidural-space involvement of a canine rhabdomyosarcoma.

Mycoplasma synoviae antibodies detection using rapid serum agglutination (RSA) assay and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is considered as the suitable screening tool in chicken flocks. Both RSA assay and ELISA have performed an ability to detect an antibody formation during mycoplasma infection due to their sensitivity in detecting both IgM and IgY. However, the IgY is the major antibody isotype transferred from the hen to the newly hatched broiler chick via egg yolk. Cat Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells have been previously established using viral vectors integrating into the host genome to deliver reprogramming factors. To aid wild felid conservation using stem cell technology, in this study we utilized non-integrative Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis-based self-replicating RNA (srRNA) to carry the reprogramming factors. This approach induced cat somatic cells towards pluripotency without genomic modification, supporting the future use of srRNA in wild felid cells. The study aimed to investigate the effect of tannic acid (TA) on total antioxidant power (FRAP), malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), nitric oxide (NO), and the viability of broiler blood cells (BBC) exposed to high ambient temperatures. The BBC from a broiler chicken was exposed to temperatures ranging from 41.5°C to 46°C and incubated with TA at concentrations of 0 (the positive control group, TPCG), 5, 10, 15, and 20 μg/mL. Hemotropic mycoplasmas are uncultured bacteria that cause different degrees of hemolytic anemia in infected hosts. Molecular approaches are used to diagnose hemotropic mycoplasmas since they are difficult to identify using conventional methods. The aim of this study was to use molecular approaches to determine hemotropic mycoplasmas in dogs. Blood samples were collected in tubes (with EDTA) from 100 dogs. After DNA extraction, 100 DNA samples were investigated by PCR. Hemotropic mycoplasma was detected in 12 (12%) samples and positive samples were subjected to Sanger sequencing. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of hydrogel containing nanosilver particles on a second-degree burn wound in a porcine model. The second degree burn wound was performed using 1 cm in diameter, on 100 °C heated cylindrical brass bar applied to the dorsum of pig skin. Burn wounds were randomly divided into three groups of wound dressings (WDs) including commercial polyurethane hydrogel (Cutinova Hydro®, Gr. A), in-house hydrogel (Gr.
