Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Tuberculosis is caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). Although TB and non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) infection exhibit similar symptoms, their treatments differ significantly. NTM strains need a specific drug regimen and some NTM strains are resistant to anti-TB drugs. Hence, mycobacterial identification is crucial. At present, the culture-based technique is the gold standard in mycobacterium detection, but it is time-consuming (3-6 weeks). Here, this study aimed to develop mycobacterial amplicon-based nanopore sequencing (Myco-ANS) assay for the differentiation of eight reference strains of mycobacteria, as well as to assess the diagnostic accuracy of Myco-ANS compared with reference line probe assay for …

Colicins are bacterial toxins, produced by E. coli under stressed conditions to kill other related strains of bacteria. Among other bacteriocins, colicin N is pore-forming bacteriocin which has cytotoxic activity on human lung cancer H460 cells. Polycationic (supercharged) colicin N (CoIN+12) is structurally engineered colicin N with more positive charges, on receptor binding domain of which, aspartic and glutamic acids were replaced by six lysine residues. It has been reported that polycationic colicin N has higher cytotoxic activity in human lung cancer cells. However, anti-metastatic effect of polycationic colicin N on human lung cancer cells has not been investigated. In …
Identification Of Active Region Of Colicin N Translocating Domain Involved In Its Antibacterial Activity, Wanassanan Lampromkaew
Identification Of Active Region Of Colicin N Translocating Domain Involved In Its Antibacterial Activity, Wanassanan Lampromkaew
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Colicins are bacteriocins produced by Escherichia coli (E. coli) and toxified themselves. In general, colicins comprise three domains, including the N-terminal domain or translocation (T) domain, the Receptor binding (R) domain, and the Cytotoxic (C) domain. The combination of these domains produces different types and activities of colicin. Colicin N is the smallest colicin and functioned in pore-formation by the C-domain on the E. coli membrane. The antimicrobial activity is regulated by the specific binding between OmpF and TolA (as receptor and translocator) at region OBS (OmpF binding site) and TABs (TolA binding site), respectively. They are then inserting the …

Crosslinking Enhancement Of Natural Rubber By Electron Beam, Mili Purbaya
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Vulcanization is a crucial process that transforms raw rubber into a durable and useful material. During vulcanization, crosslinking points are created between rubber molecules, which convert them into a thermosetting substance. The conventional vulcanization method is carried out by the addition of some chemicals accompanied by the application of thermal energy. This study explored the possibility of using electron beam irradiation which is an environmentally friendly and short-time method for vulcanizing natural rubber. The research was divided into two parts. In the first part, the efficacy of electron beam vulcanization was compared to that of thermal vulcanization. Natural rubber containing …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This dissertation develops innovative CNF/PAA hydrogel-based colorimetric sensors for non-invasive biomarker detection, focusing on urea for chronic kidney disease (CKD) and sarcosine for prostate cancer (PCa). Hydrogels serve as a matrix for enzyme and indicator encapsulation due to their high absorption capacity and unique three-dimensional network, with CNF enhancing mechanical properties. The research is divided into two parts. Part I involves preparing a GO/CNF/PAA hydrogel via non-toxic radiation crosslinking, featuring high swelling capacity and enhanced laser absorptivity due to GO. This hydrogel, used as a patch for on-skin detection, shows vivid color changes to distinguish CKD patients from healthy individuals, …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Heavy metal contamination in wastewater has been an environmental issue, so the determination of heavy metals by an accurate and simple method is important. In this work, polyaniline/cellulose nanofiber/polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel-modified screen-printed graphene electrode (PANI/CNF/PVA hydrogel-modified SPGE) was fabricated by combining the advantages of graphene and conductive hydrogel to increase the conductivity and preconcentrate the metal ions to fabricate the modified electrode for the simultaneous detection of Cd2+ and Ni2+. First, PANI/CNF nanocomposite was synthesized by in situ chemical polymerization, and CNF was shown to prevented PANI aggregation and provided sufficient porous structure on the modified electrode. The PANI/CNF nanocomposite …

Manusya, Journal of Humanities
A multimodal critical discourse analysis of The New York Times and China Daily’s news reports of Covid-19 was conducted to identify the ideologies in Covid-19 news reports. The Covid-19 pandemic was divided into three phases: China’s anti-pandemic phase, first global outbreak, and second global outbreak. The nyt and cd’s Covid-19 news reports not only conveyed facts but also served different ideologies which shifted over each phase. Both the nyt and cd news media employed lexical devices, images, and metaphors to convey different ideologies, shaping people’s perceptions of the pandemic and government measures to control it. The nyt’s Covid-19 reporting …
The Impacts Of The 2014 Coup On Thailand's Relations With The People's Republic Of China And The United States Of America, Xue Yang
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Thailand's foreign policy in the international stage has often been compared to bamboo that bends with the wind. The contrasting reactions from China and the United States to Thailand's 2014 military coup have shaped the new orientation of Thailand's international relations. China has traditionally pursued a foreign policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, gaining favor with the military government led by General Prayuth. The U.S. government, led by President Obama, issued strong outright condemnation and military sanctions against the 2014 coup. In response to the U.S. criticism of the coup and China's non-interference policy, Thailand under …
