Air Flow Behavior Assessment In Particulate Filtration Efficiency (Pfe) Tester Via Computational Fluid Dynamics (Cfd), Muhammad Amer

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Particulate Filtration Efficiency (PFE) assessment is critical for evaluating filter media. There are several PFE testing protocol depending on products and issuing countries, for example ASTM-F2299 standard for disposable medical masks, NIOSH-TEB-APR-STP-0059 for N and R series respirators, and ISO-29463 for HEPA filters. While the PFE testing principles of all standard are the same, their requirement, testing protocol and minute details are different. Air flow characteristic before and after filter media in testing chamber is very important to accuracy of PFE measurement, especially for ASTM F2299 standard. We have developed a custom PFE tester per ASTM F2299 using a simple …

Silica Dust Exposure Assessment Using Job-Exposure Matrix:A Case Of Sandstone Workers In Thailand, Chamaiphon Chari Jan 2024

Silica Dust Exposure Assessment Using Job-Exposure Matrix:A Case Of Sandstone Workers In Thailand, Chamaiphon Chari

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Respirable crystalline silica (RCS) has been classified as a human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). In Thailand, household sandstone workers were one of the most susceptible occupational groups to silicosis. However, a lack of current information about their work patterns and job-related exposures to respirable crystalline silica could hinder the success of tracking and surveillance programs. This study was conducted to explore working characteristics and patterns, and to evaluate the work diary data in the estimation of RCS exposure and health risk among household sandstone workers. All data were collected from a work diary record …

One-Pot Microwave-Assisted Approach Of Polydiacetylene/Zinc Oxide Nanocomposite For Reversible Thermochromic, Chanita Khanantong, Thanutpon Srinopkun, Thitirut Boonmak, Jintana Siriboon Jan 2024

One-Pot Microwave-Assisted Approach Of Polydiacetylene/Zinc Oxide Nanocomposite For Reversible Thermochromic, Chanita Khanantong, Thanutpon Srinopkun, Thitirut Boonmak, Jintana Siriboon

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

This study introduces a new technique to fabricate the reversible poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites thermochromism. Our preparation process is the solution-mixing method, which is supported by microwave synthesis time instead of ultrasonic bath or stirrer. The presence of ethanol molecules in aqueous media in the solution-mixing method induces dipolar polarization. In addition, the presence of Zn2+ leaking out of the ZnO can produce ionic polarization. These factors affect the shape of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposites based on their thermochromic properties. The optical properties of poly(PCDA/ZnO) nanocomposite were determined through UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy. The morphology of this nanocomposite was examined by scanning electron microscopy, and …

Optimization Of Ultrasound-Assisted Anthocyanin Extraction From Agricultural Waste Purple Corn Silk For Multifunctional Hemp Finishes, Benjamas Klaykruayat, Nattaya Vuthiganond, Pisutsaran Chitichotpanya Jan 2024

Optimization Of Ultrasound-Assisted Anthocyanin Extraction From Agricultural Waste Purple Corn Silk For Multifunctional Hemp Finishes, Benjamas Klaykruayat, Nattaya Vuthiganond, Pisutsaran Chitichotpanya

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

The utilization of agricultural wastes for textile dyeing has gained popularity due to their safe and environmentally friendly properties, as well as the resource sustainability. Natural dye extraction is usually achieved through solvent extraction, which is time-consuming, requires a lot of solvent, and degrades desired compounds at high temperatures. Thus, this study investigated ultrasound-assisted anthocyanin extraction from agricultural waste purple corn silk as natural functional colorants for hemp finishes, given the numerous health benefits associated with anthocyanin. In order to optimize the extraction processes and evaluate the synergistic impact of these conditions, response surface methodology was implemented. The optimum conditions …

Journal of Metals, Materials and Minerals

Magnesium alloys have gained attention as biodegradable bone repair biomaterials. Unlike non-biodegradable materials like titanium and tantalum, biodegradable implants offer advantages in promoting bone healing and minimizing chronic inflammatory reactions. However, the impact of the implant's degradation on the osteogenic environment remains a concern. The Mg-Zn-Ca-MgO composite, being biocompatible and containing osteogenic ions, is a promising candidate. This study assesses the degradability and in vitro/in vivo biocompatibility of two Mg-Zn-Ca-MgO composites with varying degradation rates. The Mg-1Zn-0.2Ca-1.0MgO composite was prepared, and leaching solutions were created following standard protocols. MC3T3-E1 cell cultures were conducted to assess cell toxicity, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) …

Remote Teaching For Collaboration And Creative Problem-Solving Skills In Undergraduate Urban Science: A Case Study, Yuan Lai, Rea Lavi

Journal of Education Studies

Conventional urban studies pedagogy approaches rely on highly situated experience through site visits, ground surveys, and neighborhood engagement that require learning on the scene with social interaction. The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted higher education worldwide, with undergraduate urban studies education being no exception. Such public health protocols have caused unfortunate disruptions but have also created unique opportunities for experimenting with new learning approaches augmented by information technology. This paper describes actions and reactions towards learning adaptation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. This two-week learning unit challenged instructors’ facilitation of students’ collaborative and creative problem-solving skills. The findings reveal how we  (a) …
