Monitoring And Analysis Of Erosion And Deposition In The Desert Knolls Wash, Samson Rajan Lamech

The goal of this Project was to monitor and measure ongoing changes in the geomorphology of one reach of The Desert Knolls Wash (DKW), an unstable ephemeral stream channel in Apple Valley, California. The DKW flows into the Mojave River just upstream of the Upper Mojave Narrows, a historic site that has been the focus of recorded human activity in the region since 1776.

Degradation Of Protective Glove Materials Exposed To Commercial Products: A Comparative Study Of Tensile Strength And Gravimetric Analyses, Todd B. Pelham

ABSTRACT

Current glove guides attempt to assist in recommending which type of glove is appropriate for handling chemicals; however, they include information on less than 1% of the 89 million chemical products available today.

This study offers a solution by testing five durable polymer materials against 50 chemicals, using two rapid chemical degradation assessment techniques. The first technique involves gravimetric analysis of the weight change following constant immersion against the chemical mixture. The second method uses tensile strength to assess molecular changes in the polymer structure.

Parks In The Sky: How Urban Rejuvenation Is Re-Writing Wilderness, Sarah Anne Mercurio

This thesis will examine the implications of urban wilderness, what representations of urban wilderness will look like, and whether we have, or can, move away from the archaic notion of wilderness that has prevailed since being defined in the Wilderness Act. While ecocritical theorists have not yet fully engaged in urban ecocritical analysis, the emerging trend to consider the city as a wild place is a direct result of a shift in cultural perspective, as is evidence through the development of natural and artificial place-making, such as the High Line Park in New York City.

This study will focus on the coverage of the 2010 BP oil spill at Macondo Bay in the Gulf of Mexico, when 4.9 billion barrels of oil were sent gushing into the ocean. This study provides insight into how media frame an environmental disaster and construct blame under influence of certain political economic indicators such as circulation, competition, advertising, and ownership. Studying the relationship between journalists' framing of blame for the BP oil spill in the Gulf in American and circulation and ownership type of the newspapers which published those articles helps to validate past research and provide new insights …

This research was undertaken to explore the distribution of small anthropogenic particulates (SAP) in the Santa Ana River (SAR), and to determine the contribution of SAP to the sediment load of the SAR. SAP have never been documented before in the fluvial systems, especially in Southern California. This project will effectively establish a baseline for future changes in SAP for environmental monitoring and regulations.

The purpose of this project was to identify the source(s) of arsenic in the Transition Zone subbasin of the Mojave River. The transition zone is a sub-section of the Mojave River watershed. The project area is located in the arid southwestern desert region of the United States. 43 monitoring wells were sampled during September of 2010 and October of 2011. The objective of this project is to understand the processes by which arsenic is being released from sediment into groundwater supply. This project is part of an ongoing study of Transition Zone subbasin and will be used in future work …
