Syringe Pump, Sophie C. Moffatt, Nicholas R. Guillermo-Martinez, Lauren A. Martin

Biomedical Engineering

Our team was asked to design a syringe pump that would deliver fluid at a controlled flow rate to cells in a microfluidic device. The design process of our syringe pump proved to be a very dynamic one. The beginning research of both microfluidic devices and existing syringe pumps helped our team get an idea of ways we could implement existing aspects that work into our design. There were many existing devices that resembled the one that we were asked to make closely; however, due to our resources as students, we had to be a bit more creative in figuring …

Community Bike Park Guidebook, Thomas Pincus, Bradly Engle

City and Regional Planning

The advantages of having bike parks—places where people of all ages and abilities can mountain bike—are becoming better known in cities across California. Not only do communities have a chance to create a safe space for families to gather and teach their kids about cycling, but if done right these spaces can even become a tourist attraction (Why Should Your Town Build a Bike Park?, 2018). With just a small amount of land and small initial investment from local governments, cities can have a high-quality bike park.

In these case studies, we aim to provided cities interested in building a …

Reaching A Young Audience In City And Regional Planning, Kristie P. Woo, Vinnie P. Chen

City and Regional Planning

Currently, urban planning is a rare discussion topic in schools. The youth are often excluded in the planning process as most adults question their intellectual capacity and they hold little to no political power. However, this does not have to be the case - planning has the potential to change young minds when expressed in a medium children can understand.

The Development And Evaluation Of A New Trench Safety Equipment, Joshua D. Clesi Mar 2022

The Development And Evaluation Of A New Trench Safety Equipment, Joshua D. Clesi

Construction Management

One of the most dangerous works in construction is trench work and excavation. Fatalities that range from permanent injuries to death happen to construction workers every day, not having a lot of alternatives to prevent unfortunate incidents such as cave-ins and shoring failures. What this paper is proposing is a new invention that may solve this ongoing problem with trench safety. The idea is a crane-like lift attached to the back of a pick-up truck that will vertically lift people out of the trenches in a matter of seconds before shoring collapses or the trench caves in. This project primarily …
