Calcium Chloride Extractable Cadmium As An Estimate Of Cadmium Uptake By Subterranean Clover, M. G. Whitten, G. S.P. Ritchie
Calcium Chloride Extractable Cadmium As An Estimate Of Cadmium Uptake By Subterranean Clover, M. G. Whitten, G. S.P. Ritchie
Food Science and Nutrition
Cadmium (Cd) may accumulate in soils which have been regularly fertilized with phosphate fertilizers which contain Cd originating in rock phosphate. Soil was taken from three sites in the wheatbelt of Western Australia which were estimated to have received different amounts of phosphate fertilizer over the past decade. The pH was adjusted with dilute HCl or CaCO3. No Cd was added experimentally. The concentration of Cd in the whole tops of Trifolium subterraneum cv Mt Barker grown in a glasshouse pot experiment increased from 0.2-0.8 µg g-1 dry wt at pH 6.6-6.9 (1:5 0.01 M CaCl …

Review Of John A. Walker "Design History And The History Of Design" And Peter Dormer "The Meanings Of Modern Design", Bruno Giberti
Architecture
The history of design is not a new subject. It has been the theme of two well-known if not always well-loved pillars of the historical literature, Nikolaus Pevsner's Pioneers of the Modern Movement (1936) and Sigfried Giedion's Mechanization Takes Command (1948). In contrast, design history is a relatively new discipline, well established in Britain but still forming in this country. The time is right, then, for a book like Design History and the History of Design, in which John A. Walker surveys the landscape of this field for its students.

Desenho Urbano E Revitalização Na Área Portuária Do Rio De Janeiro: A Contribuição Do Estudo Da Percepção Ambiental, Vicente Del Rio
City and Regional Planning
Contribution on the importance and applicability of the studies of environmental perception for urban design in the revitalization of a city center suffering a process of decline and underutilization of its development potentials.
Theoretical support is developed in Part One through conceptualizations on revitalization of city centers, urban design and its role in this process, and the applicability of environmental perception studies. The Port Area of Rio de Janeiro is taken as the case-study and its evolution, developmental aspects and tendencies are considered in the Part Two. The Third and last Part presents an analysis of environmental perception at the …
Goals And Constraints Of The Federal Reserve System: A Study Of Its 'Profits' Policy, Michael L. Marlow
Goals And Constraints Of The Federal Reserve System: A Study Of Its 'Profits' Policy, Michael L. Marlow
Economics
This paper models the Federal Reserve's pursuit of goals within the constraining forces of Congress, the President, financial firms and the public. Two hypotheses are empirically examined. Hypothesis 1 is that the federal budget deficit is a determinant of Federal Reserve "profits," or U. S . Treasury deposits from the Federal Reserve. Hypothesis 2 is that government spending is significantly influenced by U. S. Treasury deposits from the Federal Reserve. Empirical support of these hypotheses suggests that the Federal Reserve is partially responsible for changes in the federal budget deficit and government spending.
A Comparison Of Soil Tests To Predict The Growth And Nodulation Of Subterranean Clover In Aluminium-Toxic Topsoils, M. G. Whitten, G. S.P. Ritchie
A Comparison Of Soil Tests To Predict The Growth And Nodulation Of Subterranean Clover In Aluminium-Toxic Topsoils, M. G. Whitten, G. S.P. Ritchie
Food Science and Nutrition
Total Al concentration or pH in 1∶5 10 mM CaCl2 extracts and exchangeable Al in 100 mM BaCl2 extracts cannot always distinguish between Al-toxic and Al-nontoxic topsoils. Our objectives were to compare the abilities of different measures of Al and pH in various extracts to predict the effects of acidity on growth and nodulation of subterranean clover. In a glasshouse experiment, Trifolium subterraneum L. cv. Mt Barker was grown in acidic soils from 3 sites in the Western Australian wheatbelt with different histories of phosphate fertilizer application. The pH was adjusted to give a range of …
A Soil Test For Aluminium Toxicity In Acidic Subsoils Of Yellow Earths In Western Australia, S. J. Carr, G. S.P. Ritchie, W. M. Porter
A Soil Test For Aluminium Toxicity In Acidic Subsoils Of Yellow Earths In Western Australia, S. J. Carr, G. S.P. Ritchie, W. M. Porter
Food Science and Nutrition
Many of the yellow earths in the Western Australian wheatbelt have naturally acidic subsoils which can reduce the yield of wheat grown on them. Current methods of assessing soil acidity cannot identify which soils have subsoil acidity severe enough to restrict wheat yields.
We conducted 53 field experiments at 34 sites in 5 regions over 3 years to determine the relationship between yield of wheat and several different indices for identifying subsoils with toxic concentrations of aluminium, Al. Initially, we identified that the concentration of aluminium, [Al], in the soil solution and in 1 : 5 0.005 M KCl extracts …
Life History And Descriptions Of Immature Stages Of Tephritis Baccharis (Coquillett) On Baccharis Salicifolia (Ruiz & Pavon) Persoon In Southern California (Diptera: Tephritidae), Richard D. Goeden, David H. Headrick
Life History And Descriptions Of Immature Stages Of Tephritis Baccharis (Coquillett) On Baccharis Salicifolia (Ruiz & Pavon) Persoon In Southern California (Diptera: Tephritidae), Richard D. Goeden, David H. Headrick
Horticulture and Crop Science
Tephritis baccharis (Coquillett) is bivoltine and monophagous on Baccharis salicifolia(Ruiz & Pavon) Persoon in southern California. The egg, the second and third instar larvae, and puparium are described and illustrated. Eggs are inserted singly into terminal buds of main and axillary branches in late winter or early spring. First instar larvae hatch and tunnel into the pith just basad to the apical bud where they initiate gall formation. Gall and larval growth continue slowly into the fall, when pupation occurs. Most F1 flies emerge, mate, and after about one week begin oviposition. Some F1 flies that emerge …
