Observations Of The Copenhagen Networks Study, Michael A. Cantrell Jun 2019

Observations Of The Copenhagen Networks Study, Michael A. Cantrell

Master's Theses

Attribute-rich longitudinal datasets of any kind are extremely rare. In 2012 and 2013, the SensibleDTU project created such a dataset using approximately 1,000 university students. Since then, a large number of studies have been performed using this dataset to ask various questions about social dynamics. This thesis delves into this dataset in an effort to explore previously unanswered questions. First, we define and identify social encounters in order to ask questions about face-to-face interaction networks. Next, we isolate students who send and receive disproportionately high numbers of phone calls and text messages to see how these groups compare to the …

Transmission Probability Of Embolic Debris Through The Aortic Arch And Daughter Vessels During A Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Procedure, Jessica Lena Wirth Jun 2019

Transmission Probability Of Embolic Debris Through The Aortic Arch And Daughter Vessels During A Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement Procedure, Jessica Lena Wirth

Master's Theses

Cerebral ischemia leading to an ischemic stroke is a possible complication of a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure. This is because embolic debris can become dislodged and travel through the aortic arch, where they either continue to the descending aorta and join the systemic circulation or travel into the cerebral vasculature through the three daughter vessels that branch off the top of the aortic arch. These three vessels are the brachiocephalic artery, the left subclavian artery, and the left common carotid artery. These three vessels lead either directly or indirectly to the cerebral vasculature, where the diameter of vessels …

Interpolated Perturbation-Based Decomposition As A Method For Eeg Source Localization, Gabriel Zelik Lipof

Master's Theses

In this thesis, the perturbation-based decomposition technique developed by Szlavik [1] was used in an attempt to solve the inverse problem in EEG source localization. A set of dipole locations were forward modeled using a 4-layer sphere model of the head at uniformly distributed lead locations to form the vector basis necessary for the method. Both a two-dimensional and a pseudo-three-dimensional versions of the model were assessed with the two-dimensional model yielding decompositions with minimal error and the pseudo-three-dimensional version having unacceptable levels of error. The utility of interpolation as a method to reduce the number of data points to …

Analysis Of Hardware Sorting Units In Processor Design, Carmelo C. Furlan Jun 2019

Analysis Of Hardware Sorting Units In Processor Design, Carmelo C. Furlan

Master's Theses

Sorting is often computationally intensive and can cause the application in which it is used to run slowly. To date, the quickest software sorting implementations for an N element sorting problem runs at O(nlogn). Current techniques, beyond developing better algorithms, used to accelerate sorting include the use of multiple processors or moving the sorting operation to a GPU. The use of multiple processors or a GPU can lead to increased energy consumption and heat produced by the device as compared to a single-core GPU-less implementation. To address these problems, specialized instructions and hardware units can be added to the processors …
