On The Phenomenon Of Vortex Street Breakdown, William W. Durgin, Sture K.F. Karlsson
On The Phenomenon Of Vortex Street Breakdown, William W. Durgin, Sture K.F. Karlsson
Office of the Provost Scholarship
A von Kármán vortex street generated in the usual way was subjected to a deceleration, thereby changing the ratio of longitudinal to lateral spacing between the vortices. Distortion of the individual vortices followed which resulted in annihilation of concentrated vortex regions and creation of a stationary wake flow. This wake flow was itself dynamically unstable and developed into a new vortex street of a different frequency from the initial one. The breakdown of the initial vortex street is qualitatively explained by considering the convection of a concentrated vortex region due to the motion imposed by all the other vortices.
A Pli Computer Program For Hidden Line Elimination, Dennis M. Pfister
A Pli Computer Program For Hidden Line Elimination, Dennis M. Pfister
Mathematics
The elimination of lines not normally viewed during a visual perception of a three-dimensional object that is being simulated on a computer graphics display is called hidden line elimination (Fig. 1). My project consists of a PL-1 computer program which implements an algorithm for hidden line elimination written by A. Montanari and R. Galemberti published in the April 1969 issue of the Communications of the ACM.

1971 El Rodeo, California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo
El Rodeo Yearbook
El Rodeo, the Cal Poly yearbook, was published annually by the Associated Students. Many of the volumes featured a theme. The collection contains volumes from 1927 to 1980. Publication was suspended between 1943-1945 (during World War II) and between 1972-1976. El Rodeo was published one last time in 1990.

Mossbauer Study Of An Intramolecular Antiferromagnet, R. Lechan, C. R. Abeledo, R. B. Frankel
Physics
Mossbauer measurements at 4.2 ≤T ≤ 22 K and OsHosBO kOe are + reported in (Fe Salen Cl)2, a molecular complex containing two coupled Fe3+ ions bridged by oxygen atoms. At 4.2 K only the ground state with effective spin S = 0 is appreciably populated. Analysis of the magnetic field and temperature dependence of the magnetic hyperfine field yields an exchange constant J= -6.7 cm>sup>-1 and a hyperfine field of -192 kOe per unit spin at each Fe3+ nucleus.

Nuclear Orientation Of 253Es In Neodymium Ethylsulfate, A. J. Soinski, Richard B. Frankel, Q. O. Navarro, D. A. Shirley
Nuclear Orientation Of 253Es In Neodymium Ethylsulfate, A. J. Soinski, Richard B. Frankel, Q. O. Navarro, D. A. Shirley
Physics
Einsteinium-253 nuclei were oriented at low temperatures in a neodymium ethylsulfate lattice. From the temperature-dependent α-particle angular distribution a nuclear magnetic moment |μ|=(2.7±1.3)μN was deduced. From the values for the angular distribution function at the lowest temperatures it was possible to test the predictions of the Mang shell-model theory for the relative phases and amplitudes of the α-partial waves. As predicted, the waves of angular momentum L=0 and 2 are in phase, and the L=0 and 4 waves are out of phase. The predicted wave amplitudes are in error, especially that of the L …
