Tilt-N-Go: The Alternative Control System For Electric Wheelchairs, Kenneth Lin Jan 2014

Tilt-N-Go: The Alternative Control System For Electric Wheelchairs, Kenneth Lin

Electrical Engineering

The Tilt-n-Go system offers an alternative electric wheelchair control mechanism for those with mobility problems that prevent them from properly using the provided joystick controller. The majority of electric wheelchairs currently on the market are controlled by an armrest-mounted joystick. Users with tremors, arthritis or other medical conditions that result in loss of grip strength, may find the joystick interface difficult or painful to use. In the Tilt-n-Go system, the movement control system no longer receives movement commands from a joystick but instead responds to the orientation of an inertial measurement unit (IMU) mounted on a glove worn by the …

Model Block Press, Jordan Brown, Michael Evans, Connor Morrow

Mechanical Engineering

The Center for Vocational Building Technology came to the Mechanical Engineering department at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a project to create a new, less expensive model block press than their current BP9 design. This press would produce ¼ scale model compressed earth blocks to be sold as souvenirs and used in demonstrations for constructing buildings. After analyzing the design of the current block presses, JCM came up with the BP10 design. The BP10 operates similarly to the larger block presses, but will cost significantly less to produce and will have some of the design features enhanced to make …

Vogue As An Example Of Effective Fashion Magazine Covers, Kiefer Hackney

Graphic Communication

Abstract

In this study, my objective was to determine what cover design elements contribute to the success of Vogue, the world’s leading women’s fashion magazine. I found that color, fonts, layout, and photography all work together to make a cover that both catches the reader’s eye and gives the reader information about the magazine’s contents. I was able to narrow this down through extensive research on the background of women’s fashion magazines and, specifically, the history and future of Vogue.

In order to find out what is different about Vogue’s printed magazine covers compared to other fashion …
