The Swiss American Historical Society, founded in Chicago on July 4, 1927, and reactivated at a constitutional meeting in New York on December 29, 1964, has defined its goals in its revised constitution of November 13, 1965, as follows:
"The objects and purposes of this organization shall be to institute, conduct and encourage historical research; to record the achievements of Swiss American citizens and residents of Swiss extraction and their influence upon the progress and development of governmental institutions, and of industry, science and education in the United States of America; to analyze and describe all aspects of U.S. - …

Adolf Meyer (1866-1950): Profile Of A Swiss-American Psychiatrist, Barbara Sicherman
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
I wonder how many here this evening are familiar witht he work or even the name of Adolf Meyer. I would expect that he is know to few. Even in the field of psychiatry, towhichhecontributedso much, he has become little more than a name. Young psychiatrists are likely to learn only enought about Meyer to pass their medical boards. What they do read does not necessarily clarify his importance, for his theories seem either obivous or obscure, and far from electriying. Indeed, the recent question of one psychiatrist probably reflects the attitudes of many: "Just whar was so great about …

Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
This Newsletter is a brain child of our First Vice President, Dr. Leo Schelbert, now on sabbatical leave in Switzerland (address: Wilerweg 32, 4600 Olten). On his initiative, at our Regional Meeting in New York of May 2nd, 1969, Professor Barbara Siche:rman of Manhattanville College gave us a lecture on the life career of the Swiss American pioneer in psychiatry, Dr. med. Adolf Meyer (1866 - 1950). In the audience, our member Dr. med. Hans Syz, born 1894, who is with the Lifwynn Foundation at Westport, Connecticut, himself an outstanding psychiatrist, greatly enriched Miss Sichennan' s presentation by his personal …
Quasilattice Interpretation Of The Thermodynamic Properties Of Mixing Of Binary Alkali-Metal Systems, J. Bevan Ott, J. Rex Goates
Quasilattice Interpretation Of The Thermodynamic Properties Of Mixing Of Binary Alkali-Metal Systems, J. Bevan Ott, J. Rex Goates
Faculty Publications
Quasilattice theory was applied to heats of mixing in the six systems formed from the binary combinations of Na, K, Rb, and Cs. The alkali-metal systems are particularly well suited for a critical test of the quasi-crystalline assumption since the theoretical model for these systems is relatively simple and the thermodynamic data are fairly complex. Very good fits of the heat-of-mixing data were achieved by assuming that the larger atom in the binary system covered multiple sites on the quasilattice. The values of the empirically determined constants appear to fit the physical significance accorded to them by the quasilattice model. …
