Numeric Analysis Of The Lizard Genus Sceloporus With Special Reference To Cranial Osteology, Kenneth R. Larsen, Wilmer W. Tanner
Numeric Analysis Of The Lizard Genus Sceloporus With Special Reference To Cranial Osteology, Kenneth R. Larsen, Wilmer W. Tanner
Great Basin Naturalist
Numerical statistical methods were used to analyze the species in the genus Sceloporus using cranial osteology, external meristic and numeric characters, karyology, display behavior, and geographic distribution.
A new classification for the genus is proposed with three major branches or groups. Group I contains 7 species in 3 species groups. Group II contains approximately 19 species in 5 species groups. Group III contains approximately 32 species in 5 species groups. This classification is supported by the cluster analysis of several different sets of data. Cranial osteology, zoogeography, behavior, and karyology are shown to be taxonomically significant as numeric characters. Stepwise …

Effects Of Chemicals On The Germination Of Pollen Grains Of Torenia Asiatica Linn, E. M. V. Nambudiri, M. K. Thomas
Effects Of Chemicals On The Germination Of Pollen Grains Of Torenia Asiatica Linn, E. M. V. Nambudiri, M. K. Thomas
Great Basin Naturalist
Germination studies of the pollen grains of a Scrophulariaceae plant, Torenia asiatica Linn. have revealed that the maximum percentage of germination and longer tubes were attained in 15 percent sucrose solution. Among the chemicals tried, calcium and boron enhanced germination. Less germination occurred among grains treated with potassium or magnesium salts. Abnormalities such as branched tubes with or without vesicles were found in chemically treated pollen grains.
Taxonomic Studies Of Trombiculid Mites, Jack T. Reed
Taxonomic Studies Of Trombiculid Mites, Jack T. Reed
Theses and Dissertations
Five publications and one manuscript concerning the taxonomic studies of trombiculid mites are submitted. Publications include a revision of the North American genus Comatacarus Ewing, the erection of the following genera by Brennan and Reed: Loomisia, Atelepalme, Phalcophila, and Nycterinastes. Discussions of the genera Aitkenius Brennan and Polylopadium Brennan and Jones are also included. The subfamily Leeuwenhoekinae is reviewed on the basis of neo-tropical representatives (unpublished manuscript). The genus Odontacarus comprises 66% of the chiggers examined, and 82% of these were identified as O. tubercularis (Brennan). Odontacarus fieldi Brennan and Jones and O. cayolargoensis Brennan are synonomized under O. tubercularis …

Taxonomy Of The Genus Chloris (Gramineae), Dennis E. Anderson
Brigham Young University Science Bulletin, Biological Series
This study is a worldwide taxonomic treatment utilizing endomorphic characters such as cytology, histology, and embryology, in addition to the traditional exomorphic features. New chromosome numbers and histological information are reported. Relationships between Chloris and other genera in the Chlorideae are discussed. A total of 56 species is recognized in the genus; each is described and illustrated. Complete synonymies are included as well as a list of unidentified or rejected names. Distributions and maps are given for each species, along with lists of specimens examined during studies at various herbaria. Reports of field studies involving introgression among certain species are …

Some two hundred miles north of Toronto on the road to Burk's Falls, just outside Magnetawan, is an old farm field, shoulder-high in hay. Tucked back in a corner of the field, barely visible from the road, is an old post archway. It is closed with pagewire fencing. Inside the fence, wild fern has all but totally obscured a pioneer graveyard, a memorial to Swiss settlers who helped to open up the country south of Lake Nipissing. Most of the inscriptions on the gravestones are still readable. he names they bear leave no doubt as to the Bernese origin of …

Book Review: La Genese De Nova Friburgo. Emigration Et Colonisation Suisse Au Bresil 1817-1827, Leo Schelbert
Swiss American Historical Society Newsletter
Nicoulin's work on the making of Nova Friburgo is a thoroughly researched and well-presented study, but somewhat limited in its interpretive dimensions. Manuscript materials in Swiss federal, state, and village archives have been extensively consulted as well as archives in Rio de Janeiro and in Nova Friburgo. The author has furthermore perused a great many printed sources all of which enabled him to reconstruct the story of an emigration which in 1819 involved over 2000 Swiss and had the active support of Swiss governments as well as of Brazilian authorities. A 70-page appendix offers the reader a useful sample of …

On Saturday, December 1, 1973, some thirty members attended the 1973 annual meeting of the SAHS at the Swiss Town House on 35 West 67th Street in New York City. It was a clear, sunny say which had made travelling pleasant and smooth. The Swiss Town House proved again to be a hospitable place to meet in, especially due to the expert hose, Mr. John Brunner. When the business meeting had closed somewhat earlier than anticipated, Mr. Brunner had quickly some excellent Swiss wine served, and also the luncheon was first-rate as to food and service.

This project was designed to generate information relative to a specific intercultural communication situation, especially directed toward diversity between cultural expectation and performance in the following areas: first, Chinese expectation of American Latter-day Saint missionaries' performance in Chinese contexts; and second, performance of the missionaries, as reflected by their knowledge of proper conduct in Chinese contexts at the end of their missions.
