Proposed Agenda For A Spiritual Strategy In Personality And Psychotherapy, Allen E. Bergin, I. Reed Payne
Issues in Religion and Psychotherapy
This essay argues that spiritual approaches in personality and psychotherapy are currently not coherent and that a rational strategy is not being pursued to develop an authentic spiritual orientation that can take its place alongside the other major orientations to personality and psychotherapy. It is suggested that a systematic spiritual approach needs to be developed that contributes uniquely to (a) a conception of human nature, (b) a moral frame of reference, and (c) specific techniques of change. In addition, a spiritual approach, if it is to be a viable option in the mental health field needs to be (d) empirical, …

Switzerland's Dialogue With The New Europe, H. Dwight Page
Switzerland's Dialogue With The New Europe, H. Dwight Page
Swiss American Historical Society Review
In the midst of the extraordinary current political, economic and cultural changes transforming Europe, few nations find themselves in a greater dilemma than Great Britain and Switzerland. While they must participate to a degree in the process of European economic unification, both Britain and Switzerland risk in so doing jeopardizing their political and cultural identities to a greater extent than any other countries in Europe. No other European culture reveres political independence and sovereignty as much as these two. In addition, whereas the other nation states of Europe have been involved in larger supranational European empires until recent times, Britain …

Reexploring The Book Of Mormon: A Decade Of New Research, John W. Welch
Reexploring The Book Of Mormon: A Decade Of New Research, John W. Welch
Maxwell Institute Publications
The Book of Mormon invites exploration and reexploration. After more than 150 years of careful reading, we are still learning to appreciate its fullness, understand its origins, and comprehend its messages. Reexploring the Book of Mormon yields a wealth of new insights. More than ever before, patient and skillful research during the past decade has led from one discovery to another. Since 1981, the Foundation for Ancient Research and Mormon Studies (F.A.R.M.S.) has issued articles and updates—brief, readable reports on current discoveries about the origins and contents of the Book of Mormon. Eighty-five of these findings published through 1991 have …

A Study Of African American Women And Their Perceptions Of Life In Utah, Jennifer Caye Demayo
A Study Of African American Women And Their Perceptions Of Life In Utah, Jennifer Caye Demayo
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine, through the use of the ethnographic interview (Spradley, 1979), residential preferences, as well as the stated reasons for relocation of African American women who live in a predominantly White, Utah Mormon culture. The "push and pull" factors that impacted the women's decisions to come to and/or remain in Utah were qualitatively analyzed in some detail. The end goal of the research was to determine whether Utah was perceived as a desirable residence by and for African American women.
Residential preference is a complex issue which requires an in depth explanation. The prominent …

The Geographical Landscape Of Tabernacles In The Mormon Culture Region, Crystal Wride Jenson
The Geographical Landscape Of Tabernacles In The Mormon Culture Region, Crystal Wride Jenson
Theses and Dissertations
Although tabernacles do not hold the sacred meaning of Mormon temples, they are symbolic landmarks of the culture of the early Mormon Saints. Tabernacles were once an integral part of each community in which they were located. They were often the main buildings in the community, reflecting the coherent, orderly nature of a Mormon town. Today, many of the original tabernacles have been torn down and others are under the threat of destruction.
The first tabernacles built in the Mormon Culture Region were constructed in the 1850s. They were large meetinghouses built for the purpose of holding large general meetings. …

The Violation Of Clarence Thomas' Rights, Trey Dayes
The Violation Of Clarence Thomas' Rights, Trey Dayes
Brigham Young University Prelaw Review
We often assume that law and order will always prevail, that our rights will always be protected. However, this is not necessarily true. Many times the rights granted in the Bill of Rights are neglected. This was the case with Clarence Thomas. The legal process which he endured was not a trial, but a hearing. He was submitted to a gross injustice by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Due to the fact that this was not an actual trial Thomas was not charged with a criminal offence. He was merely under investigation. However, because this was only an investigation, he was …

Edward Ii And The Tactics Of Kingship, Carolyn P. Schriber
Edward Ii And The Tactics Of Kingship, Carolyn P. Schriber
Quidditas
Edward II (1307-1327) succeeded to the throne of England at a crucial time. In 1307 England was at war with Scotland and faced threats of further trouble in Wales and Gascony. In addition his father had left him a debt-ridden country in which the barons were beginning to recognize their potential for governmental control through financial blackmail. The country's finances were overextended, but the baronage and clergy had been resisting royal demands for increased taxation. If Edward II were to continue his father's policies and pursue the war in Scotland, as the barons wished, he would be forced to give …
