Syntheses Via Modifications Of The Knorr-Paal Procedure :|Ba. Derivatives Of 2,6-Dioxa-10-Azatricyclo[5.2.1.0[Superscript 4,10]]Decane ; B. Highly Sterically Crowded 1,2,5-Trialkylpyrroles And Pyrrolidines, Weldron Severin Burnham

Earlier work in these laboratories on the heterotricyclic system 2,6-dioxa-10-azatricyclo[5.2.1.04,10]-decane, formed from 1,4-diketones and 2-amino-1,3-propanediols by a product-water-azeotroping procedure, was extended with the synthesis of analogous compounds, e.g., the 1,4,7-triethyl-, 1,7-dimethyl-4-isopropyl-1,7-diethyl-4-isopropyl-, 1,7-dimethyl-3- and 4-phenyl- compounds. The 1,7-dimethyl heterotricycle, the kinetically-controlled product, was accompanied by the thermodynamically-controlled product, 2-(2,5-dimethyl-1-pyrryl)-1,3-propanediol. The 1,7-diethyl heterotricycle was also accompanied by the isomeric pyrrole as were the 1,7-dimethyl-3- and 4-phenyl compounds. A scheme postulating a common intermediate is presented. The interesting analogous compounds, 1,7-dimethyl-2-oxa-6-thia-10-azatricyclo[5.2.1.04,10]decane, 1,4,7-trimethyl-2,6-dioxa-11-azatricyclo[5.3.1.04,11]undecane and 11-hydroxymethyl- and 11-methyl-9,13-dioxa-14- azatetracyclo[6.5.1.02,7 011,14]tetradeca-2,4,6-triene were also prepared. A Comparative Survey Of Soil Microfungi From Three Vegetation Types In Cedar Valley, Utah, Brent T. Wahlquist

Microfungi were isolated from soil samples by the soil plate method. Soil samples were collected at depths of 0-1", 1-4", and 4-8" both between and beneath the canopy of the dominant vegetation in stands of greasewood, sagebrush, and pinyon-juniper. Salinity, pH, and percent organic matter were measured for each soil sample. A total of 148 strains of fungi representing 141 species and 46 genera were isolated and identified from these alkaline soils, Few strains, including some Aspergilli, occurred only in the more saline greasewood soils, while many strains, including several Penicillia, occurred in both sagebrush and piny-on-juniper soils but were …

This thesis is concerned with the fisheries of Deer Creek Reservoir, Wasatch County, Utah, with special emphasis on the yellow perch. The study period was from May 13 to November 24, 1968. Objectives included the determination of size, age, and food habits of the yellow perch. Parasitic occurrences in the perch population by Ligula intestinalis were also recorded as well as the utilization of the perch by the fishermen. Observations on other species of fish including an analysis of rainbow trout stocking programs were also objectives of this thesis. Data was gathered by means of creel census and fish collection …

Calorimetrically determined ΔH° values are given for the stepwise formation of chelate species between serinate ion and the divalent metal ions of Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, and Cd. These values of ΔH° are compared with those reported in the literature and were combined with values of ΔG° (log K) found in the literature to calculate values of ΔS°. These values of ΔG° and ΔS° are listed also. A new method of standardizing dilute ferrous ion solutions is reported. This procedure makes use of the thermometric titration technique to detect the equivalence point for the reaction of K_2Cr_2O_7 with ferrous ion. …

Aquatic fungi in-Powell's Slough were.studied in 1967 & 1968. Collections were made and water temperature, oxygen content & pH values were measured at weekly intervals. For collections, wire baskets containing substrata were submerged in water for one month. After collecting, substrata were brought to the laboratory. Identification was based on the keys of Sparrow, 1960. Aquatic fungi identified included seven orders, nine families, fifteen genera, and thirty species, from thirty-three collections of fifteen types of substrata. A Revision Of The Hedysarum Boreale Complex, Terry Edwin Northstrom

The Hedysarum boreale complex consists of all North American Members of the genus Hedysarum which possess free wing auricles, sub-equal calyx teeth, hidden leaflet veins, and wingless loment articles. One species, two subspecies, and three varieties are recognized. The traditional methods of comparative morphology are employed in delimiting species in the herbarium, but pertinent data from field work are also included. The somatic chromosome number was determined for all taxa, and was found in all cases to be 16. Distribution maps, illustrations, and graphical comparisons of taxa are included.

A Study Of Factors Which May Influence Attitudes Of Lds Teen-Agers Toward Family Home Evening, Don Leroy Miller

The purpose of this study was to identify factors related to attitudes of teenagers toward the Family Home Evening Program of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Hypotheses involving the relationships of certain factors to attitudes toward home evening were tested.
A cluster sample of twenty-three ninth grade classes was selected and data were gathered through use of a questionnaire. Statistics used in analysis of data included the Pearsonian product moment correlation coefficient, and analysis of variance. Responses to open-end questions were content analyzed by three independent judges.

Three predominant and economically important shrubs of the sagebrush-grass range community in Utah, namely big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata Nutt.), rubber rabbitbrush (Chrysothamnus nauseosus (Pall.) Britt.), antelope bitterbrush (Purshia tridentata (Pursh) DC), and a widely re-seeded range grass, crested wheatgrass (Agropyron cristatum (L.) Gaertn.) were sampled during the summers of 1966 and 1967, and yielded twenty species of thrips. Three species (Anaphothrips tricolor Moulton, Chirothrips aculeatus Bagnall, Chirothrips simplex Hood) were new distributional records for Utah. The Golden Eagle Aquila chrysaetos canadensis Linn. is facing extinction in much of its range. In the Western Hemisphere its numbers are restricted primarily to the mountainous regions west of the 99th meridian, from extreme northern Alaska to northern Mexico (Hobbie and Cade, 1962) and from timberline in Colorado to below sea level in Death Valley, California (Summer, 1929a).
