Lds Language Teaching And Learning: Highlights From 1830 To 1982, Cynthia L. Hallen
Theses and Dissertations
Since the establishment of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, its leaders and members have been commanded and encouraged to learn foreign languages. With the gift of tongues and diligent effort Latter-day Saints have made great progress in the last 152 years in meeting the challenge of learning and teaching languages. This paper is an attempt to compile what has been done by Church members, programs, and organizations to promote language in a world where international communication is increasingly important. It will also be a resource for the LDS Church, the Missionary Training Center, Brigham Young University, and …
Danish Farmers In The Middle West, Erik Helmer Pedersen
Danish Farmers In The Middle West, Erik Helmer Pedersen
The Bridge
A former Danish carpenter and farmer, Niels Madsen, his wife, Anna, and their six children, aged 15 to 3 years, were among the passengers on board the America wooden paddle-steamer "Northern Light" when the ship on May 1, 1869, left Copenhagen. It was bound for New York, but enroute it had to call at Gothenburg in Sweden and Christiana in Norway. The Madsen family had left their native village of Klippinge at Stevns, in the company of about 30 other emigrants, headed by a so-called "yankee," Mr. A. Clausen, who during the spring of 1869 had formed an emigration group. …

The Bridge
Since I have been working with the Danish Immigrant Archives, and especially with the Danish Immigrant Archival Listing project, it has become increasingly clear to me that those immigrants who become a part of the Danish Church represent but a small fraction of the Danes who came to this country. Sometime in the Danish Church we have, I fear, been so wrapped up in ourselves that we have lost sight of the great majority of Danes who emigrated to America and who, in one way or another have left their mark. Examples are numerous but I think of one little …

The Communicational Function Of Wearing Apparel For Lady Missionaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Alice W. Buehner
The Communicational Function Of Wearing Apparel For Lady Missionaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Alice W. Buehner
Theses and Dissertations
Because the need exists for a professional image among lady missionaries, this thesis will define what knowledge concerning communication of clothing is necessary in order to create a desirable image of professionalism. The term "professional" is derived from available research describing the most appropriate attire for women business executives. In lieu of an experimental study by this author, the interpretation of the professional look is supported by Molloy's extensive research on women's wearing apparel. His research shows that beyond a doubt, the skirted suit and blouse give women "a look of authority and a sense of presence in business." In …
Four Utah Mormon Artists As Authors, Roxie Dale Trimble
Four Utah Mormon Artists As Authors, Roxie Dale Trimble
Theses and Dissertations
In researching the literary and visual art forms of four Utah Mormon artists/authors, considerable evidence supports the prognosis that natural parallels do exist between the written and visual works of artists/authors. Recent as well as past historical data also confirms this hypothesis.
To implement research personal interviews and written questionnaires were submitted. The resultant data compiled supports the prognosis that this parallelism does exist.

Parasites Of Indochinese Refugees Entering Utah County, Utah: A Two-Year Survey, Richard A. Heckmann, Bruce A. Coleman
Parasites Of Indochinese Refugees Entering Utah County, Utah: A Two-Year Survey, Richard A. Heckmann, Bruce A. Coleman
Great Basin Naturalist
A survey of parasites from 39 stool specimens taken from 36 Indochinese refugees who are now living in Utah County, Utah, indicated representative intestinal helminths (worms), and protozoans upon clinical examination. Approximately 75% of the stools contained nematodes, and 55.5% had protozoans. Parasites found were Entamoeba coli, Chilomastix mesnili, Endolimax nana, Giardia lamblia, lodamoeba buetschlii, Clonorchis sinensis, Trichuris trichiura, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Plasinodium vivax. The most common protozoan observed was Entamoeba coli (1979 and 1980) while the most common helminths were Ascaris lumbricoides) (1979) and Clonorchis sinensis (1980). These data were comparable to studies of refugees at two other …
