The Effect Of The Postdivorce Relationship On Paternal Involvement: A Longitudinal Analysis, Constance R. Ahrons, Richard B. Miller
Faculty Publications
Longitudinal analyses of data from 64 pairs of former spouses indicate that the quality of their postdivorce relationship had a significant impact on fathers' involvement with their children. The strength of the influence declined over time, however, as the patterns of interaction in the reorganized binuclear family became more stable.

Depletion Of Soil Moisture By Two Cold-Desert Bunchgrasses And Effects On Photosynthetic Performance, Jay E. Anderson, Nancee L. Toft
Depletion Of Soil Moisture By Two Cold-Desert Bunchgrasses And Effects On Photosynthetic Performance, Jay E. Anderson, Nancee L. Toft
Great Basin Naturalist
This study compared the abilities of two cool-season bunchgrasses to extract moisture from a drying soil and compared photosynthetic and stomatal responses of the two species as soil moisture supplies were depleted. When grown in 49-L pots in a greenhouse, Leymus cinereus extracted more water from the soil and maintained higher gas exchange rates to lower absolute amounts of soil water than did Agropyron desertorum. The soil water content at the lower limit of extraction was 10.3% for L. cinereus and 13.3% for A. desertorum. When soil moisture was expressed as extractable soil water, there was little difference …
Humoral Creatinine In Walleye (Stizostedion Vitreum), Harry L. Holloway Jr., Craig A. Shoemaker
Humoral Creatinine In Walleye (Stizostedion Vitreum), Harry L. Holloway Jr., Craig A. Shoemaker
Great Basin Naturalist
Published fish blood parameters are limited to commercially cultured species (e.g. rainbow trout [Oncorhynchus mykiss] and channel catfish [Ictalurus punctatus]). However, as walleye (Stizostedion vitreum) and other fish increase in value to the angler, hatchery and fish managers will require data on these species. Blood sera were collected from live walleye in the field, creatinine values were determined colorimetrically, and health range values were established from these data. Creatinine levels of walleye serum (0.06–0.72 mg/dl) were higher in three species but lower than recognized in a recent catfish study. Creatinine levels may be important …
On The Relative Importance Of Floral Color, Shape, And Nectar Rewards In Attracting Pollinators To Mimulus, Steven D. Sutherland, Robert K. Vickery Jr.
On The Relative Importance Of Floral Color, Shape, And Nectar Rewards In Attracting Pollinators To Mimulus, Steven D. Sutherland, Robert K. Vickery Jr.
Great Basin Naturalist
Pollinator preferences were observed for the six species of section Erythranthe of the genus Mimulus using greenhouse-grown plants placed in a meadow in the Red Butte Canyon Natural Area, Salt Lake County, Utah. The principal pollinators were hummingbirds and bumble bees. Hummingbirds preferred the species with the most reflexed tubular flowers regardless of color, whereas bumblebees preferred pink. lavender, or yellow flowers to red flowers regardless of shape. Results for the six species were confirmed by observations of F2 hybrid recombinant plants selected such that flower color could be held constant and flower shape varied and vice versa.

Perception Of Leadership Style And Job Satisfaction, Carlos Holgado
Perception Of Leadership Style And Job Satisfaction, Carlos Holgado
Theses and Dissertations
The relationship between the perception of leadership behaviors, self-perception (managers and supervisors) vs. perception of others (staff members), and the level of job satisfaction of those staff members will be analyzed.
The main focus of the present study is to determine what the relationship is among the four basic leadership behaviors - Telling, Selling, Participating, and Delegating- based on the Situational Leadership theory (Hersey and Blanchard, 1974, 1982) perceived by staff members, and job satisfaction in terms of work, pay, opportunities for promotion, supervision style, relationship with coworkers-workers-workers-workers, and job in general according to the Job Satisfaction theory developed by …

“The social sciences should not exist. And I'm grateful that there are people in the social sciences working to destroy them.” This statement might easily be dismissed as rash and unjustified were the author not a world-class scholar, the quality of whose life-long study serves as an invitation to consider his reasons for making such a declaration. If, in the end, we cannot concur with Dr. Arthur Henry King's verdict on the ultimate value of the social sciences, might not his analysis of its problems give us a new perspective from which we might reevaluate it? Perhaps there is something …
Profiles Of Immigration, Jane Adèle Chapman
Profiles Of Immigration, Jane Adèle Chapman
Swiss American Historical Society Review
There is a story to tell for every Valaisan immigrant of the 19th century, but only a few can be presented below. These profiles were written by Swiss Valaisans, by American immigrants, or their descendants. They vary greatly as to source and level of detail. But even the simplest account of the facts of departure and travel reveal the enormity of the steps these immigrants took and the effect it would have on them and the generations to come..

Euthanasia Versus Advance Directives: New Options Facing The Terminally Ill, Michael J. Miller
Euthanasia Versus Advance Directives: New Options Facing The Terminally Ill, Michael J. Miller
Brigham Young University Prelaw Review
Many people are fearful that if they become terminally ill, they will end up on life support, trapped from malting their own decision to live or die. As a result of this fear, proponents of active euthanasia, or mercy killings, are increasing. One proponent of active euthanasia, Dr. Jack Kevorkian, has taken the idea of mercy killings to new extremes. During the past three years, he has assisted in the suicide deaths of fifteen terminally ill patients (Reuters 1993, 6[A]). Others, who believe that mercy killings are wrong, favor passive euthanasia. They believe the terminally ill should have the right …
The Myth Of The Persecuted Female Healer, Jane P. Davidson
The Myth Of The Persecuted Female Healer, Jane P. Davidson
Quidditas
The idea that most women condemned as witches during the classic periods of witch persecution in Europe (between 1500 and 1700) were in actuality unlicensed healers who were suppressed by the male medical establishment arose among feminist writers, historians, and religious leaders. This idea has been around for more than twenty years now and has become a familiar strain in women's studies. It has been presented often as historically valid by scholars of both genders. The theory is that the midwife, the 'cunning woman', and the female folk herbalist were condemned as witches by male physicians in order to keep …

Sheltering The Homeless: Hospitals In Medieval Catalonia, James W. Brodman
Sheltering The Homeless: Hospitals In Medieval Catalonia, James W. Brodman
Quidditas
Shelter for the temporarily homeless, whether or not they were needy in the modern sense, was as typical a charity in the tons and villages of medieval Europe as was providing food for the hungry. The Rule of St Benedict, as well as local Hispanic customs, imposed the obligation of hospitality upon monasteries, and likewise the growing towns of the eleventh and twelfth centuries saw the need to provide beds for those who were not householders. Those served were a diverse lot: pilgrims wending their way to shrine like Santiago, clergy and others in town on business, wandering beggars and …
