Found In Translation: An Analysis Of Popular American Film In Spain, Emily Dushek
Found In Translation: An Analysis Of Popular American Film In Spain, Emily Dushek
Honors Projects
This research examines American popular film in Spain with the aim of understanding if and how removing a popular text (such as a film) from its original language and socio-cultural context and translating it for consumption in a different language and culture affects the interpretation of the film. The study delves into the very successful 2012 films The Avengers (Joss Whedon) and Django Unchained (Quentin Tarantino) and uses textual analyses and comparisons of the original English and the translated Castellano Spanish versions of the films, specifically focusing on the translations, as well as analyses of film reviews and critiques written …

The Wishing Well: A Children's Ballet (A Composer's Perspective), Lydia Dempsey
The Wishing Well: A Children's Ballet (A Composer's Perspective), Lydia Dempsey
Honors Projects
As a composer, I am passionate about introducing audiences to contemporary classical music. I chose to compose a twenty-five-minute children's ballet titled The Wishing Well based on the fairytale Diamonds and Toads. It premiered on April 2, 2016 at the Bowling Green Performing Arts Center in collaboration with choreographer Sophia Schmitz and conductor Robert Ragoonanan. Other elements of the project included set design, costuming, lighting, audio and video recording, and marketing. The mission was to provide the local community with a free arts event, introduce young audiences to music and ballet, enrich people’s lives through music and dance, provide …

An Unchained Analysis Of Racial Tension In America, Moriah Angott
An Unchained Analysis Of Racial Tension In America, Moriah Angott
Honors Projects
Modern race issues stem not only from the past but also from a lack of understanding and empathy for each other. How we talk about race will not only inform how we are able to move forward as a society, but it will also say a great deal about how we are evolving as human beings. It is important, and has been recognized as such, that black Americans have the freedom to grapple with that past, to understand it, and to feel connected to those ancestors who suffered in order for the foundation of this country to be built. Is …
Not Just A Watered-Down Version Of A Freshman Orientation, Emily Skibski
Not Just A Watered-Down Version Of A Freshman Orientation, Emily Skibski
Honors Projects
I developed and piloted two 40 minute sessions for Bowling Green State University’s (BGSU) Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration (SOAR) Program, a one-day intesenive orientation program. After developing facilitation guides for these sessions, I trained a group of eight Orientation Leaders (OLs) to facilitate sessions for nontraditional and transfer students during SOAR, which occurred on January 8, 2016. Depending on how a student self-identified, the student attended among sessions for nontraditional, transfer, or traditional students. A facilitator’s guide for a session for traditional students was already developed and in use. The facilitation guides created for this honors project were designed …

Exploration Of Fauré'S "Poème D'Un Jour" Through Lecture And Recital, Lauren Cornwell
Exploration Of Fauré'S "Poème D'Un Jour" Through Lecture And Recital, Lauren Cornwell
Honors Projects
The purpose of this creative project was to synthesize the research regarding Gabriel Fauré’s song cycle, “Poème d’un jour” using performance and lecture. I believe that the musical experience for performer and audience can be enhanced through a shared understanding of information regarding the composer and their work. My goal for the project was to find and present information about the composer’s compositional techniques and aesthetics and how they relate to the interpretation and composition of the cycle. I wanted my senior recital to be entertaining, as well engaging and educational. Using performance I was able to present a personal …
