Non-Profit Contracting: An Old Path To A New Fairness, Robert M. Wolff

Visions in Leisure and Business

This article explores the trend of privatization among public, quasi-public, and private institutions. The primary factor that must be resolved is whether a cooperative or a competitive approach is used. Morgan's model of privatization, with greater utilization of the private non-profit sector, coupled with voluntary involvement of dedicated individuals, seems to hold the most promise.

The Purchase Involvement Of Repeat Visitors To A Destination Resort, John C. Crotts Jan 1990

The Purchase Involvement Of Repeat Visitors To A Destination Resort, John C. Crotts

Visions in Leisure and Business

An understanding of the decision making processes repeat visitors use is important to resort managers since the economic health of their property is dependent to a large extent by such patronage. Employing the typology of Newman and Webel (16), this study found that few customers could be characterized as loyal patrons. In other words, the vast majority of repeat visitors in this data set were not beyond the influence of marketers. The relative abilities of respondent's age, education, planning time and distance traveled are examined in an effort to account for the degree of complexity repeat visitors used in vacation …

Resort Motivations For Different Family Life Cycle Stages, Brian J. Hill, Cary Mcdonald, Muzaffer Uysal

Visions in Leisure and Business

Motivational differences for resort vacation travel among family life cycle stages have not been addressed in travel research. However, from a marketing standpoint, segmenting the resort market into family life cycle groups can be reasonably important. Linking an identified group of motivations with these stages is the purpose of this article. Descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and analysis of variance are used to evaluate the data. Twenty motivations are reduced into five motivation factors that coincide with established travel motivations or needs. The importance of family relationship, health and social, and fun and entertainment motivations does differ among respondents single or …

The Tourist Citizen Diplomat, F. H. Knelman

Visions in Leisure and Business

This paper introduces a role of citizen diplomat for tourists. The concept of innovative diplomacy, i.e. citizen and municipal diplomacy is applied to tourism. A model of a tourist diplomat guide is outlined, using Canada as the host country. Critical to this guide is describing the identity of the host country through a list of basic elements and situating the role of tourist diplomat in a global context of issues. Peace, human rights and environmental protection are the major issue categories of the context.

Given space limitations, the section on the identity of the host country is compressed into an …

Understanding Cross-Cultural Differences In The Context Of Tourism, Ady Milman

Visions in Leisure and Business

One of the primary problems in better understanding through the tourism experience is perceptual differences between the tourist and the host country. These differences are influenced by the environment, organization, and individual. It is in the manipulation of these constructs that relationships and better understanding can be achieved.

Visitor Welcome Programmes--A Positive Step In Helping To Promote Cross Socio-Cultural Relations, Perry Hobson Jan 1990

Visitor Welcome Programmes--A Positive Step In Helping To Promote Cross Socio-Cultural Relations, Perry Hobson

Visions in Leisure and Business

One of the main problems currently facing modern tourism is the alienation of tourists from host nationals. The lack of interaction and communication between tourists and hosts communities can result in misunderstanding, resentment and suspicion. If tourism is to overcome the alienation of tourists and residents from each other, and promote understanding and therefore peace between these two groups, then they must be able to meet, talk and understand each other. Current trends indicate that tomorrow's tourists will be looking for more interaction and communication with their hosts. The paper examines some of the current formal "meet-the-people" programmes and the …
