Assessing The Academic Motivations Of Ncaa Division I Mid American Conference Gymnasts When In And Out Of Season, Maggie Dunn

Master of Education in Applied Human Development Graduate Projects

As National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) student athlete exploitation has become a growing concern (Grasgreen, 2011), it has become increasingly more important to examine the nature of how student athletes are spending their time. The athletic time demands placed on student athletes are becoming unreasonable (He, 2016), causing them to compromise the time they spend on their academics to meet the expectations of their sport(Saffici and Pellegrino, 1998). Beyond time restrictions placed on the number athletically related hours each week, based on the high level of stress involved, student athletes should be given a period of time where they are …

Infusing Data Campus-Wide To Drive Institutional Change, Meridith Wentz, Amanda Brown, Jeff Sweat

Mid-Western Educational Researcher

As tuition rates for higher education rise, universities are under increased pressure from internal and external stakeholders to document outcomes such as graduation rates. To do so, higher education institutions must use data effectively. This paper examines the University of Wisconsin-Stout’s (UW-Stout) strategies for data use in the institutional planning process. UW-Stout, a recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 2001, continues to use the Baldrige framework and criteria, as well as the balanced scorecard, to gather data and help the institution make data-driven positive changes.

Acquisition Of Aquatic Motor Skills Through Children’S Motor Stories, Juan Antonio Moreno Murcia, Elisa Huescar Hernandez, Jose Antonio Richart Parra Dec 2017

Acquisition Of Aquatic Motor Skills Through Children’S Motor Stories, Juan Antonio Moreno Murcia, Elisa Huescar Hernandez, Jose Antonio Richart Parra

International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education

An increasing interest in the renewal of traditional recreational content and the use of the aquatic environments as educational resources is supported by very few empirical, evidence-based studies that link the two. This quasi-experimental study analyzed the role of stories in influencing perceived motor competence and real motor skills in seventy-eight children ages between 4 and 5 years through the administration of two questionnaires on aquatic motor ability and aquatic motor competence. Differences were found in aquatic motor competence (p < .01) and aquatic motor ability (p < .05) for the experimental group, where higher means values were obtained after the intervention. We present this methodological proposal as a useful educational tool for early childhood stimulation with achievements that go beyond motor progress itself.

Throughout this paper, the impact of ethnicity, gender, the college of a student’s program, high …

Optimizing Transposon Mutagenesis In Vibrio Strains To Identify Genes Involved In Antibiotic Production, Mahnur Khan Dec 2017

Optimizing Transposon Mutagenesis In Vibrio Strains To Identify Genes Involved In Antibiotic Production, Mahnur Khan

Honors Projects

Based on previous studies that have shown the competitive nature of non-pathogenic environmental strains of Vibrio, we hypothesize that environmentally derived bacteria can inhibit Vibrio pathogens, and possibly be a source of novel antibiotics. A previous experiment performed in the lab tested environmental Vibrio strains from various habitats against the pathogenic strains, Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Of the 3,456 strains collected, members of the Wildschutte lab identified 102 environmental strains of Vibrio that inhibited the growth of both pathogens. The data suggests that environmental Vibrio strains directly inhibit the growth of related pathogens. Our project involves the …
