The Spirit Of Methodism: Missionary Zeal And The Gift Of An Evangelist, Philip R. Meadows

The church does not need more vital congregations, but rather a few vital Christians, whose vitality is not measured in terms of institutional effectiveness, but by missionary zeal. This zeal is a hungering and thirsting for just one thing: the glory of God and the salvation of souls. It cannot be manufactured, but can only be caught from those who have been gifted by the Spirit to continue the charism of their founder, and fanned into flame. Caring For Muslim Ministry Workers In North America, Mike Urton

Numerous studies have been conducted on the causes of undue stress among missionaries serving overseas. This article represents the first such study conducted among missionaries working domestically among diaspora people groups. The focus is on a particular group of diaspora missionaries in North America, namely those serving among Muslims. It includes a survey of missionaries in this context who were asked to list their top stressors in ministry. The results are organized into relevant categories, along with suggested coping methods for these stressors. It concludes by demonstrating how caring for these missionaries will assist the broader Christian community in Muslim …

One of the most difficult aspects of dealing with any church is conflict. Because of humanity’s fallen nature and because of the difficulty of initiating and accepting change, conflict is almost always inevitable. Conflict becomes detrimental when it is not handled correctly or when it remains unchecked and finds its source deep within the sinful nature and motives of people. Conflict in the church, though, does not necessarily have to be destructive. Many of those within the church reconciliatory ministry say that conflict is essentially neutral. When handled properly, it can actually result in some positive benefits for the church.

This essay offers five specific principles from Donald McGavran that have directly influenced The Journey Church in New York City, San Francisco, and Boca Raton, Florida, and indirectly thousands of other churches (through the writing and coaching ministry of Nelson Searcy with Church Leader Insights). McGavran’s principles of missionary eyes, goal setting, assimilation, homogeneity, and a Great Commission focus have proven invaluable in this church plant and offer a similar value to other churches seeking to make a difference in their communities.
