Lncreasing Clinical Judgment And Critical Thinking Skills Using The Ncsbn Clinical Judgment Measurement Model In Licensed Nursing, Kathryn Roberts
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Licensed nurses are having problems with critical thinking and using clinical judgment when caring for patients (Rogers & Franklin, 2023). There has been increased emphasis on critical thinking and clinical judgment in nursing school curriculum but not in hospital/orientation curriculum (Dickison et al., 2019). This quality improvement project aims to address the gaps in critical thinking and clinical judgment skills among licensed nurses by focusing on integrating the NCSBN-CJM, and cues into the prebriefing of the Respiratory Distress/Oversedation Scenario within the project hospital orientation program. The project utilized a quasi-experimental study design to investigate the cause-and-effect relationship by integrating the …

Improving Empathy With Simulation: A Quality Improvement Project, Jami Layne
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
This study examines the effectiveness of simulation-based training in enhancing empathy levels among undergraduate nursing students. A lack of empathy can negatively impact the healthcare outcomes of patients (Levett-Jones et al., 2019). Improving the empathy levels of nursing students can improve patient outcomes and impact student learning outcomes such as the student’s ability to think critically and improve communication and social skills (Chua et al., 2021; Ferri et al., 2017; Hakansson Eklund et al., 2019; Koukourikos et al., 2021). The purpose of the quality improvement project was to improve empathy levels in undergraduate associate degree nursing students and increase the …
Improving Access To Early Interventions For Prediabetic Patients, Kimberleigh M. Telling
Improving Access To Early Interventions For Prediabetic Patients, Kimberleigh M. Telling
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Approximately 88 million Americans, or nearly one-third of the population, have prediabetes. This condition has a high rate of progression to type 2 diabetes, reaching 70%. However, early identification, diagnosis, and participation in lifestyle interventions can effectively reduce the risk and promote euglycemia. Regrettably, 85% of those with prediabetes are unaware. The goal of this quantitative quality improvement project was to enhance the use of the prediabetes diagnosis code by primary care providers, who play a crucial role in preventing type 2 diabetes. The purpose was to improve access to early intervention for individuals with prediabetes, following the guidelines of …

Implementing A Foot Screening Project For Diabetic Patients In An Assisted Living Facility, Beatrice L. Bailey
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Diabetes impacts around 422 million individuals globally, resulting in 1.5 million reported annual deaths. Type 2 diabetes affects approximately 35.4% of the population in the United States, with 1.4 million new cases identified each year. When not managed properly, diabetes can spiral into a long list of complications. Among the various challenges in diabetes management, foot complications stand out as significant and often avoidable. Without proper attention, these complications can lead to severe health issues. To address this concern, this project focuses on resolving standard foot inspection practices within an assisted living facility in central Mississippi. The goal is to …
Improving Outcomes For Women Following Gynecological Surgery Through Implementation Of Multimodal Analgesia As Part Of An Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (Eras) Protocol, Shannan M. Case
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The opioid epidemic in the United States has been a continuous public health crisis, as opioid-associated overdose has become one of the leading causes of death. The risk of opioid misuse increases following exposure to opioids perioperatively. As a result, anesthesia providers are facing a significant shift in practice to decrease opioid administration while adequately managing perioperative pain. While opioids have historically been the mainstream for perioperative pain management, multimodal analgesic (MMA) regimens as part of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs are being utilized as alternative methods. With these programs, opioids are reduced by administering non-opioids with neuraxial and …

Conflict Resolution In Healthcare: The Vital Role Of Developing Conflict Management Skills Among Nurse Leaders, Kris Maddalena
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Nurse leaders at the unit level play a vital and indispensable role in acute care settings. Their influence extends beyond administrative tasks, as they significantly impact crucial factors such as nurse retention rates, patient outcomes, and the overall work environment of the unit-level teams. Effective unit-level leadership has been consistently associated with improved outcomes, increased job satisfaction, and decreased turnover among nurses (Aiken et al., 2011). This DNP project is focused on enhancing conflict management skills among unit-level nurse leaders in an acute care setting. The project followed a quality improvement sequence, which included obtaining a needs assessment for unit-level …

The Implementation Of A Diabetic Foot Screening Tool Into A Primary Care Practice, Joanna P. Barnett
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Inconsistent guidelines and nonadherence to diabetic foot screening recommendations are ongoing problems. This project aimed to promote the prevention of diabetic foot complications by detecting complications early and determining who is at high risk. An educational intervention provided for clinicians addressing the importance of foot assessments and the use of a diabetic foot screening tool was provided. After the education was provided, a pre-and post-test comparison was assessed for increased knowledge. Due to a small sample size and the need to assess results quickly, the plan-do-study-act method guided the project. Post-intervention, the goal was to have four providers increase the …

Influence Of Organizational Constraints, Principals' Authentic Leadership, And Teachers' Coping Strategies On Teachers' Psychological Well-Being, Jennifer Renee Watkins
Student Theses and Dissertations
Teacher shortage and teacher attrition has been one of the most sustaining educational issues for policymakers and educational leaders. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of current organizational constraints and principals’ authentic leadership on teachers’ psychological well-being. Carol Ryff’s (1989) Psychological Well-Being Theory guided the current study. Ryff emphasized that optimal psychological functioning is required for the development and self-realization of an individual. The theory of psychological well-being is multidimensional and has six distinct dimensions of psychological wellness. The study examined the influence of organizational stressors and principals’ authentic leadership. It hypothesized that while organizational stressors …

Reshaping Education In Memphis: A Single Case Study Of Turnaround Districts In An Inner-City Neighborhood, Edrika S. Thigpen
Student Theses and Dissertations
Memphis, Tennessee leans on two radical approaches to take responsibility for their most underperforming schools and turn them around. The Tennessee Achievement School District (ASD) is the state’s approach to school reform and turnaround, while the local school district elected to create an Innovation Zone (iZone) to improve schools and achieve school turnaround locally. These efforts employ strategies and approaches as outlined and defined in national and state turnaround policies. The relationship between these interventions and school improvement has not always shown a positive correlation. Students throughout the school district, especially those in historically low-performing neighborhoods and school communities of …

The Role Of Social Media In Raising Special Needs Awareness Among Saudi People, Lujain Bugshan
Student Theses and Dissertations
Notwithstanding the decades-long focus afforded by the Saudi government on people with special needs, the sector remains to receive minimal research-based interventions (Alharbi & Madhesh, 2017), making social awareness more challenging. However, social media has become a means for information diffusion and raising awareness about different social issues. Furthermore, it has been employed as a powerful medium in influencing the perceptions of its users in Saudi Arabia (de Alencar, 2016). Given the utility of social media and the expected positive outcomes of public health advocacies, this paper seeks to examine the role of social media in raising awareness of the …

Development And Validation Of A Scale To Measure An Adaptive Culture Profile Using Student Affairs Divisions In Higher Education, Tammy Lynne Fowler
Development And Validation Of A Scale To Measure An Adaptive Culture Profile Using Student Affairs Divisions In Higher Education, Tammy Lynne Fowler
Student Theses and Dissertations
The landscape of higher education in the United States shifts and moves in response to environmental challenges often hard to predict or measure. A joint taskforce of the American College Personnel Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators taskforce expressed the concern that no other time in history has the incentive for real change been more powerful or the consequences for not changing more significant. How institutions, particularly Divisions of Student Affairs assess and respond to these changes has far reaching effects. Student affairs professionals must possess the skill set necessary to effectively assess the challenges facing their …
Limiting The Effects Of Issue Networks & The Iron Triangle: Strategies For Creating Positive Organizational Culture & Boosting Innovation In The Public Sector, Kyla Pitts-Zevin
Limiting The Effects Of Issue Networks & The Iron Triangle: Strategies For Creating Positive Organizational Culture & Boosting Innovation In The Public Sector, Kyla Pitts-Zevin
Student Theses and Dissertations
Positive organizational culture is beneficial to organizations and fosters innovation (Spreitzer 2012) (Kotrba 2010). Innovation contributes to organizational sustainability, efficiency and performance (Kohli & Mulgan 2010). I argue that the public sector faces unique challenges in building and sustaining a positive organizational culture and thus innovation is stifled. These challenges that public organizations face are due, at least in part, to the effects of issue networks and the iron triangle. Such obstacles include (1) a constantly changing environment, (2) serving multiple constituencies, (3) an increased emphasis on monetary efficiency at the expense of programmatic quality, (4) hierarchical cultures and (5) …

Perceptions Of Senior And Mid-Level Leaders Involved In The Mergers Of Vocational Technical Institutes And Institutions Of Higher Education In Arkansas Since 2003, Michael Keith Mcclanahan
Student Theses and Dissertations
The expansion of educational opportunities in Arkansas has led to many educational changes since the inception of public postsecondary institutions in 1862. Most recently, Act 1244 of 1991(Acts of Arkansas, 1991) authorized the vocational-technical schools created through ACT 328 of 1957(Acts of Arkansas, 1957) to become stand-alone technical colleges or to merge with existing community colleges. This study investigated the perceptions concerning the impact of the education institution organizational changes brought about by ACT 1244 of 1991 as held by senior and mid-level leaders of those merging institutions. The study obtained the perceptions of these organizational leaders through the focus …
