Navigating The Midlife Shift: Menopause, Motherhood, And Meaning In Women’S Lives, Michelle M. Ness
Navigating The Midlife Shift: Menopause, Motherhood, And Meaning In Women’S Lives, Michelle M. Ness
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Midlife represents a dynamic and often disorienting transition for women, marked by the convergence of menopause, shifting family roles, and evolving professional identities. This mixed-methods study explores how women navigate these intersecting experiences, particularly focusing on the impact of menopausal symptoms on motherhood, work, and relational well-being.
Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 42 women aged 39–57. Thematic analysis followed Braun and Clarke’s framework, integrating inductive and deductive coding strategies. Themes were identified and refined through an iterative analytic process, ensuring credibility and depth through careful attention to patterns and meaning across participant narratives. Four key themes emerged: …

Owning The Mission: Reconciling The Past, While Implementing The Science Of Reading In An Education Preparation Program, Paula J. Adams
Journal of Inquiry and Action in Education
This reflective inquiry examines the first year of a two-year initiative to more explicitly align an established educator preparation program with the Science of Reading (SoR). Situated within a small private university in New York State, the article considers implementation as both curricular revision and institutional change. The process included faculty professional learning, curriculum mapping, alignment of student learning outcomes, revision of common course assessments, development of SoR-aligned models of candidate work, and consideration of clinical experiences. Particular attention is given to tensions that emerged around policy fatigue, academic freedom and responsibility, differing professional cultures, candidates’ prior experiences with literacy …

Blue Is A Clue: An Arteriovenous Malformation Masquerading As A Ganglion Cyst, Leslie Guerrero, Monica Agarwal, Amanda L. Killeen
School of Podiatric Medicine - Student Research
Introduction: Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are abnormal connections between artery and vein, lacking an intervening capillary bed. Although AVMs are mostly congenital, they are rare in the pediatric population, and their presentation in the foot is particularly uncommon, presenting with broad, nonspecific findings such as swelling, discoloration, or non-painful/painful masses. Their variability delay recognition and management, which can cause their progression to lead to ulceration/bleeding, functional impairment, and even amputations.
Aim: To present a case and investigate the reported occurrences and clinical characteristics of AVMs in the pediatric foot.
Methods/Case Presentation:
Review: A PubMed and Google Scholar search identified pediatric foot …

Beyond Glycemic Control: Glp-1 Receptor Agonist Use And Post-Operative Outcomes Following Ankle Orif: A Scoping Review, Denyse Solano, Stephanie Campbell, Amanda L. Killeen
School of Podiatric Medicine - Student Research
INTRODUCTION: Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) utilization has increased over recent years for the use of glycemic control and weight management. Although this drug offers multiple benefits, there’s concern for its potential effects on bone health. As the use of GLP-1 RA rises, it’s important to understand its potential impact on bone healing, specifically its influence on postoperative complications following ankle open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF).
AIM: The aim of this literature review is to determine if preoperative GLP-1 RA use is correlated with an increase in post-operative complications following ankle ORIF.
METHODOLOGY: A literature review was conducted …

Surgical Management Of Retained Sea Urchin Spines Following Multiple Puncture Wounds: A Case Report, Michael A. Higham, Stephanie N. Campbell, Tyreen Heybeck, Naomie Jean, Amanda Killeen
School of Podiatric Medicine Publications
Introduction: Sea urchin spine injuries are uncommon marine envenomation injuries that can result in retained foreign bodies, local inflammatory reactions, and persistent symptoms requiring surgical management in select cases. Initial management should include oral analgesia, hot-water immersion, removal of visible spines, and tetanus prophylaxis when indicated. Granuloma formation is a recognized response to retained spines and may ultimately require surgical excision. Pedicellariae, which possess venom and neurotoxic components, may contribute to envenomation.
Aim: To present a case of multiple deep sea urchin spine puncture wounds with retained foreign bodies.
Case Presentation: We report a 20-year-old Caucasian male who sustained multiple …

Improving Discharge Planners' Education On Telehealth, Catherine Ene Idowu
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
The swift advancement of technology has greatly influenced numerous fields, including healthcare. Telehealth utilizes digital resources to deliver health services from a distance, making it an essential means to enhance healthcare access. It is crucial for older adults, who frequently deal with mobility limitations and various health issues (World Health Organization [WHO], 2024).
Nevertheless, the implementation of telehealth in Nigeria faces various challenges. A primary issue is the lack of training and readiness among healthcare workers, particularly those involved in discharge planning. These professionals play a vital role in coordinating care after patients leave the hospital. Telehealth provides health services …

Changes In Seasonal Use Of The Central Platte River Valley, Nebraska, By Sandhill Cranes, Bethany L. Ostrom
Transactions of the Nebraska Academy of Sciences and Affiliated Societies
Recent environmental change has altered migration timing and winter distribution of many bird species, including Sandhill Cranes. Historically, the Central Platte River Valley in Nebraska functioned primarily as a spring staging area for the midcontinent population, with limited fall use and rare overwintering events. I examined records of Sandhill Crane occurrences during October to January in the Central Platte River Valley from 2015-2026 using incidental observations and aerial surveys starting in 2024. Overwintering Sandhill Cranes were documented in 7 of 11 Dec/Jan, with unprecedented increases observed since 2023, peaking with approximately 42,000 Sandhill Cranes in January of 2026, the largest …

Ai In Higher Education: Some Notes From The Front, Debra Rienstra
Ai In Higher Education: Some Notes From The Front, Debra Rienstra
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
We’re four weeks into the semester now. This past summer, our university unveiled a campus-wide AI policy that exhorts students and faculty to use discernment and tries to lay out some rules about security. Meanwhile, we have purchased a campus-wide subscription to an AI aggregator tool now available to all students, faculty, and staff (in part, from what I understand, as an attempt to effect some boundaries). And then, in the news, all this hand-wringing over the end of humanity, etc., on the one hand and techno-utopian promises on the other.

When Three Points Aren't Enough: Parameter Estimation In Newton's Law Of Cooling, Alberto A. Condori, Cara D. Brooks, Madeline R. Goldberg
CODEE Journal
We begin with a paradoxical three-point problem where the standard parameter estimation formula fails because temperature data must satisfy a concavity condition reflecting Newton's Law of Cooling's exponential structure. Although a closed-form solution for A exists for equally-spaced measurements, high sensitivity to error motivates the use of overdetermined systems with many measurements. The "profiling over A" technique transforms this three-parameter nonlinear problem into a sequence of simple linear regressions, providing computational efficiency and conceptual transparency. This approach can be generalized to many parameter estimation problems in science and engineering, making it a valuable tool for undergraduates interested in applied mathematics. …

The Impact Of Provider Medication Reconciliation Education On Hospital Readmissions In A Skilled Nursing Facility, Vivian Nwozu
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Aging causes frailty and multiple comorbidities, necessitating polypharmacy. Complicated drug regimens predispose patients to adverse drug events and hospital readmissions. The practice problem was high rates of medication-related readmissions due to inadequate provider knowledge of medication reconciliation and the lack of a standardized tool. This project aimed at evaluating the impact of provider medication reconciliation education on hospital readmissions in a skilled nursing facility. A pretest-posttest study design was utilized. The Donabedian Model of Healthcare Quality guided the translation of evidence into practice, whereas Lewin’s Change Model and Plan-Do-Study-Act models guided implementation. Eight providers were educated on medication reconciliation using …

Cartelized Parliament And The Decline Of Legislative Oversight In Indonesia’S Multiparty Presidentialism, Shanty Kartika Dewi, Anis Fuad
Jurnal Wacana Politik
This article examines the tendency of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR RI) in the 2024–2029 term to move toward a cartelized parliament within Indonesia’s multiparty presidential system. It addresses how the dominance of an oversized governing coalition after the 2024 election weakens parliamentary opposition and reduces the effectiveness of checks and balances over the executive. The study employs a qualitative explanatory approach using a single-case study design, process tracing, and documentary analysis. The data are drawn from official state and parliamentary documents, KPU decisions, legislative agendas, democracy monitoring reports, credible media coverage, and public statements by political elites. The findings …

Building On Sand: Ai Law And The Failures Of Alignment, Claire Boine
Building On Sand: Ai Law And The Failures Of Alignment, Claire Boine
Journal of Science & Technology Law
AI alignment is increasingly in the spotlight. However, from a technical concept, the term has been broadened to cover all sorts of potential harms by advanced AI systems. This Article disambiguates three different problems: ensuring that systems pursue intended objectives through acceptable means, deciding which values should guide their behavior, and governing private companies whose incentives diverge from those of society. Drawing on technical research and documented incidents, the Article explains why goal alignment deserves serious attention without requiring claims about human-like intelligence. It then shows how value alignment can reframe normative conflict as an engineering problem and divert attention …
Misplaced Trust In Artificial Professional Advice, Claudia Haupt
Misplaced Trust In Artificial Professional Advice, Claudia Haupt
Journal of Science & Technology Law
The professional relationship constitutes a distinctive social interaction in which the professional has knowledge that the client or patient lacks but needs to make important decisions. A specific legal and ethical framework governs this relationship. Traditionally, this framework assumes interactions between human actors and is designed to safeguard normative values inherent to human-centered professional advice-giving. Prominent among the foundational assumptions are expectations of competence, loyalty, and trust. Individuals seeking professional advice expect to receive accurate and comprehensive advice reflecting the insights of the profession.
This Essay examines the social relationship based on knowledge asymmetries and trust underlying the human professional …

Can we develop a method of regulating AI to protect families, households, children, and relationships? We want AI to do the dishes, not to raise our children. Scholars in family law and family dynamics in sociology and economics have worked to refine and explain characterizations of family life in ways that might help to formulate the challenges ahead. Where a characterization of family life is too thin, these scholarly efforts let us see the costs of conventional or incomplete understandings. For example, just because we are at home, doesn’t mean we aren’t working. Just because it is with and for …
