Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Meteorology, Environment and Arid Land Agriculture

Black soldier fly larvae meal (BSFLM; Hermetia illucens) has been authorized in the EU as an insect-derived protein for feed and is a promising alternative to soybean meal (SBM), with potential functional benefits attributed to lauric acid (LA), chitin, and bioactive peptides; however, evidence is limited regarding its interaction with probiotic–multi-enzyme complexes. Thus, we investigated whether replacing SBM with BSFLM, with or without a microbial probiotic and multi-enzyme blend (MPE). A total of 225 one-day-old Ross 308 chicks were allocated to nine treatments in a 3× 3 factorial design (five replicates of five chicks) from 1–38 d, using mash …

Protective Factors Among African American Offspring Of Teen Parents, Janelle Ewing Sep 2026

Protective Factors Among African American Offspring Of Teen Parents, Janelle Ewing

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Adolescent pregnancy remains a major public health and social issue, but research has primarily focused on risk factors and not the protective factors that contribute to resilience among those who successfully break the cycle. This qualitative study explored protective factors that African American adult offspring of teenage parents identified as supporting them in avoiding teenage pregnancy and parenthood. The study was theoretically grounded in Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, which was used to explore the role of influence across environmental systems in participants’ developmental outcomes. The primary research question was “How do African American adult offspring of teenage parents describe the …

African American men experience disproportionately low rates of mental health service utilization and often report negative perceptions of mental illness. Despite documented mental health disparities, limited research has explored how mental health workers understand and apply multicultural competence when providing treatment to African American men. Grounded in the theory of planned behavior and social identity theory, the purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore the lived experiences of mental health workers regarding multicultural competence in their work with African American men. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with seven mental health workers recruited through purposive sampling. Interview …

Smaller State Development By Competitiveness In Productivity And Sustainability, Anthony Wayne Jerome Phillips-Spencer Sep 2026

Smaller State Development By Competitiveness In Productivity And Sustainability, Anthony Wayne Jerome Phillips-Spencer

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Persistent poverty, middle-income traps, uneven growth, and productivity gaps expose smaller countries, defined as those with fewer than nine million people, to multidimensional vulnerability that retards development. Research revealed a positive relationship between competitiveness and growth in larger and developed countries. However, the competitiveness-development nexus in smaller and developing countries was omitted from previous research. Growth is not development. The purpose of this quantitative, longitudinal, comparative study was to examine the development-by competitiveness experiences of smaller states at different stages of development with productivity and sustainability through the lens of punctuated equilibrium theory and the national competitive development model. Results …

Repeatability And Behavioral Relationships Of Acuity, Contrast Sensitivity, Form, And Motion Perception Measurements Using A Novel Tablet-Based Vision Test Tool, Jonathan Green, Jan Skerswetat, Peter J. Bex, Gunnar Schmidtmann

School of Health Professions

Visual function tests are essential in basic and clinical vision research but are typically restricted to a limited range of visual functions and provide coarse diagnostic resolution. The response-adaptive Angular Indication Measurement (AIM) and Foraging Interactive D-prime (FInD) paradigms were recently developed as generalizable approaches for assessing multiple visual functions. Both methods present 4 × 4 stimulus arrays spanning ± 2σ around an adaptively estimated threshold. This study evaluated the repeatability, test duration, and relationships between AIM and FInD measures of near visual acuity (VA), contrast sensitivity function (CSF), and form and motion coherence using tablet-based vision tests. 38 healthy …

How Often Do Managers Withhold Information?, Jeremy Bertomeu, Paul Ma, Ivan Marinovic

Olin Business School Faculty Research

We estimate a dynamic model of voluntary disclosure, using annual management forecasts of earnings, that features a manager with pri ce motives and an uncertain but persistent information endowment. Our estimates imply that: (i) managers face disclosure frictions 35% of the time; (ii) conditional on being informed, managers withhold information 17% of the time; and ( iii) conditional on being silent, managers possess information 24% of the time. Managers’ strategic withholding motives increase investors’ uncertainty about earnings by 3%. We find that managers’ price motives reduce strategic withholding by one-third, in response to investors’ increased skepticism in the event of …

Unsex Me Here: Gendered Psychology In Shakespeare's Major Tragedies And Comedy, Md. Abu Bakkar Sep 2026

Unsex Me Here: Gendered Psychology In Shakespeare's Major Tragedies And Comedy, Md. Abu Bakkar

Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts

This study examines how gender shapes psychological experience across five of Shakespeare’s major plays: Macbeth, Hamlet, Othello, King Lear, and Twelfth Night. Existing scholarship treats Shakespeare’s tragic women, tragic men, and comic heroines as separate problems; this article asks whether one framework connects them. Its starting point is the reversal in psychological positions between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth: he resists killing on moral grounds and then grows recklessly violent, while she plans the murder with cold resolve and is later overwhelmed by guilt. The study asks whether this pattern recurs more broadly, and why. Drawing …

715 St. Marks Tenant Assn. V. M&M Crown Realty, Llc

All Decisions

HP case—tenants (35 rent-stabilized residents) establish ample need under CPLR 408 for narrowly tailored discovery. Seven interrogatories and ten documentary demands regarding elevator and boiler installation and maintenance are outside petitioners' custody or control. DOB and HPD violation records are insufficient alone: agency inspections measure operationality on a single visit and do not capture sporadic recurring outages or systemic failures indicating a need for replacement, as alleged. Respondents bear minimal burden; no possession-recovery urgency in HP enforcement proceedings.

Ovarian Carcinosarcoma With Neuroendocrine Differentiation: A Case Report, Aron Bhachawat, Heenal Marfatia, Janira Navarro Sanchez, Suneetha Chintalapati, Locke Uppendahl Sep 2026

Ovarian Carcinosarcoma With Neuroendocrine Differentiation: A Case Report, Aron Bhachawat, Heenal Marfatia, Janira Navarro Sanchez, Suneetha Chintalapati, Locke Uppendahl

Student Publications

We report a case of advanced-stage ovarian carcinosarcoma (OCS) with extensive extra-ovarian involvement and widespread high-grade serous carcinoma involving the omentum, bladder, ileal mesentery, and small bowel serosa in a female patient in her mid-40s. This case highlights a rare arrangement of histologic features and disease differentiation. The metastatic sites demonstrated predominantly epithelial high-grade serous carcinoma, while the sarcomatous component was identified in the adnexal tumor and left pelvic sidewall. The presence of neuroendocrine differentiation, however, represents a rare and infrequently reported histopathologic feature. The case demonstrates the importance of comprehensive histopathologic and immunohistochemical evaluation in accurately characterizing complex gynecologic …

Incidental Appendiceal Adenocarcinoma Discovered After Ileocecectomy For Recurrent Small Bowel Obstruction: A Case Report, Aron Bhachawat, Heenal Marfatia, Suneetha Chintalapati, Kelly Winter

Student Publications

We report a case of moderately differentiated appendiceal adenocarcinoma discovered on histopathologic examination following ileocecectomy for recurrent SBO in a woman in her early 50s with a history of stage III rectal adenocarcinoma in remission. Notably, serial surveillance imaging over two years had demonstrated a radiographically normal appendix prior to the obstructive presentation. Immunohistochemical and histopathologic features confirmed a metachronous primary malignancy rather than metastatic recurrence. This case exemplifies the diagnostic challenge posed by occult appendiceal neoplasms, the importance of meticulous histopathologic evaluation of all resected specimens, and the need to consider rare malignant etiologies in patients with recurrent bowel …

A Realist Review Of The Remediation Of Professionalism Lapses In Undergraduate Medical Students (Restore 3), Ross Raymond-Jones, Tom Gale, Nicola Brennan, Marie Bryce, Tristan Price Sep 2026

A Realist Review Of The Remediation Of Professionalism Lapses In Undergraduate Medical Students (Restore 3), Ross Raymond-Jones, Tom Gale, Nicola Brennan, Marie Bryce, Tristan Price

Peninsula Medical School

IntroductionProfessionalism is a core element of medical curricula worldwide and remains a cross-cutting theme across all aspects of a medical programme. When a medical student fails to demonstrate the expected attributes and behaviours, medical schools have a duty to step in, and where appropriate, offer remediation that aims to facilitate behavioural change. There is sparse explanatory theory on this complex topic, resulting in little evidence-based guidance for medical schools to utilise. This review aims to explain how, why, to what extent and in what circumstances professionalism remediation works for undergraduate medical students.MethodWe conducted a realist review that aligns with the …

Hyperlattice-Valued And Superhyperlattice-Valued Uncertain Sets With Decision Applications, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal, Arif Mehmood, Arkan Ghaib Sep 2026

Hyperlattice-Valued And Superhyperlattice-Valued Uncertain Sets With Decision Applications, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal, Arif Mehmood, Arkan Ghaib

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Fuzzy set theory enriches classical sets by assigning to each element a graded membership in [0,1], thereby capturing partial inclusion and uncertainty. The notion of an Uncertain Set further abstracts this idea by allowing membership to take values in a general degree-domain, providing a unified language that subsumes fuzzy, intuitionistic fuzzy, neutrosophic, plithogenic, and related models. On the algebraic side, a hyperlattice replaces one lattice operation by a multivalued hyperoperation, enabling the representation of ambiguous or non-deterministic combinations, while a superhyperlattice iterates this structure through powerset lifting to obtain higher-order layers of interaction. Motivated by these developments, we introduce HyperLattice-valued …

A Unified Framework For Neutrosophic Estimation Using Fractional Power, Exponential, And Logarithmic Functions With Bivariate Auxiliary Information, Anchal Yadav, Anuj Yadav Sep 2026

A Unified Framework For Neutrosophic Estimation Using Fractional Power, Exponential, And Logarithmic Functions With Bivariate Auxiliary Information, Anchal Yadav, Anuj Yadav

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

This study develops a generalized neutrosophic ratio-type estimator for estimating the population mean by incorporating information from two auxiliary variables under Simple Random Sampling Without Replacement (SRSWOR). The proposed methodology extends the conventional single-auxiliary-variable approach by jointly incorporating bivariate auxiliary information within the neutrosophic framework, thereby accounting for uncertainty, indeterminacy, and inconsistency in the available information. The bias and mean squared error of the proposed estimator are derived using first-order approximations, and the corresponding efficiency conditions are established through theoretical comparisons with existing neutrosophic estimators. The performance of the proposed estimator is further examined using a real medical dataset represented …

20 Years Of Neutrosophic Statistics: A Bibliometric Analysis, Hammad Khalid, Arshad Hameed

Neutrosophic Systems with Applications

Florentin Smarandache introduced neutrosophic statistics (NS), a formalism for representing uncertainty and indeterminacy in observations, parameters and statistics in an extension to classical and interval statistics. Although widespread in various contexts, such as statistical quality control, hypothesis testing, medical diagnosis, and decision science, and increasingly used and developed, the scientific evolution and conceptual framework of the science of decision making remain largely unexamined. To fill this gap, the present study has been conducted with a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of NS research articles published between 2003 to 2025 from Scopus which has been conducted following the SPAR-4-SLR protocol. In all, 501 …

The Evolution Of Reliability Methods For Nondestructive Evaluation (Nde): From Probability Of Detection (Pod) Conception To Contemporary Practices, Christine E. Knott, Jennifer Brown, John Aldrin, Christine M. Schubert Kabban

Faculty Publications

Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods are powerful tools for detecting and characterizing flaws in structural components, but their reliability must be evaluated before they can be used in critical applications. For more than 50 years, probabilistic and statistical methods have been used effectively to estimate reliability by describing an NDE system’s Probability of Detection (POD) for flaws of realistic sizes. The POD methods used by the USAF and NASA, like Hit/Miss, Signal-Response (â vs. a), and Point Estimate method (PEM, a.k.a. 29/29) have evolved, alongside newer approaches like Limited Sample POD (LS-POD) method, and Model Assisted Probability of Detection …

Microbial Conversion Of Wetland Plants To Organic Acids For Reductive Bioleaching Of Metals (Manganese, Iron, And Nickel): Review, Rebecca Kwofie, Palas Kamlakar Borkar, Daniel Amponsah-Berko, Timothy Eisele

Michigan Tech Publications

This review focuses on invasive aquatic and wetland plants, such as cattail (Typha latifolia) L., common reed (Phragmites australis (Cav.) Trin. ex Steud.), and water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes (Mart.) Solms), as feedstocks for microbial production of organic acids used in reductive bioleaching of manganese, iron, and nickel. These species are abundant, fast-growing, low in lignin relative to woody biomass, and often available at zero or negative acquisition cost as products of environmental mitigation, making them attractive alternatives to feedstocks that compete with food or established markets. As high-grade ore reserves decline, sustainable and low-cost alternatives for metal recovery have become …

Characterization Of An Open-Channel Structure And Lateral Conduction Pathway In The Cation-Selective Pentameric Ligand-Gated Ion Channel, Elic, Mark J Arcario, Elizabeth J Wu-Chen, Yuna Shim, Jérôme Hénin, Grace Brannigan, Wayland W L Cheng

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Open-channel structures of multiple pentameric ligand-gated ion channels (pLGICs) have been determined, including the prokaryotic model pLGIC, Erwinia ligand-gated ion channel (ELIC). For many of these structures, it remains uncertain whether they represent a physiologic open-channel state because the conditions used for structure determination do not match those of functional measurements in cell membranes. Here, MD simulation is used to examine the ion conduction properties of the ELIC open-channel structure, which was determined using a non-desensitizing mutant called ELIC5. Results from simulations show that the pore remains stably open on the microsecond timescale, but computational electrophysiology measurements demonstrate a large …

The Lessons I Never Took, Nadia Luong Sep 2026

The Lessons I Never Took, Nadia Luong

Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

“The Lessons I Never Took” is a lyric poem rooted in the author’s experience growing up as a first-generation Cambodian American child in an immigrant family. The poem examines how socioeconomic hardship and language brokering shape a child’s relationship to desire, responsibility, and unrealized possibility. While other children receive formal lessons that allow their interests and talents to be discovered, the speaker develops unrecognized interpretive skill by helping her parents navigate English-speaking institutions. Without assigning blame, the poem holds parental sacrifice and childhood loss together, revealing how survival can limit not only access to enrichment but also a child’s opportunity …

Enhancing Clinical Trial Literacy In Singapore: A Dnp Evaluation Of A Hbm-Guided Educational Video, Harini S. Shunmuga Velu, Barnaby Edward Young, Wentao Zhou

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Background: Clinical trials are a cornerstone of modern healthcare [4]. However, approximately 80% of trials fail to enrol participants on time, costing millions and delaying essential treatment [1].This directly impedes progress toward Sustainable Development Goal Target 3.b. In Singapore, community participation remains modest due to micro-level barriers, including misconceptions, fear of exploitation, and limited research literacy. Advanced nursing leadership must promote this by promoting research literacy and informed ethical decision-making.

Purpose: The purpose is to systematically evaluate the effectiveness and implementation feasibility of a short, culturally-tailored educational video designed to enhance public knowledge, perceived safety, and willingness to participate in …

Bridging Knowledge And Practice: Concept-Based Care Labs In A Medical-Surgical Nursing Course, Thin Malatesta, Rita K. Amoah, Amanda Cornine

International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)

Introduction: In 2010 Benner et al.’s seminal work called for stronger connections between classroom teaching and nursing practice. Prior to Fall 2024, lectures were still a frequent teaching method in an accelerated pre-licensure nursing program.

Background: This project combined active and concept-based learning, using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to create activities. Active learning is well-received, enhances student engagement, and supports the application of didactic content (Ghasemi et al., 2020; Kalu et al., 2023). Concept-based learning enhances problem-solving, engagement, and clinical readiness, preparing nurses for care in complex settings (Al-Omari et al., 2024). AI can efficiently generate complex patient cases and …
