Holding The Line: Teacher Resilience And Engagement In Myanmar’S Conflict-Affected, Non-State Schools, Lugyi No, Hilary Lustick
Journal of Education Studies
This qualitative study explores teacher resilience, professional engagement, and informal leadership in community-led schools located in conflict-affected areas of Myanmar. The study draws on two online focus group discussions with 14 high school teachers selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument was a semi-structured focus group discussion protocol. The discussions were conducted in the Myanmar language, and the data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. The findings indicate that teachers sustain resilience through moral purpose, professional commitment, and strong relational ties with students, peers, and local communities. In the absence of formal governance structures, teachers assume informal leadership roles by …

The Caged Canary: Compounded Discrimination And The Female Jazz Vocalist, Isabella Eaton
The Caged Canary: Compounded Discrimination And The Female Jazz Vocalist, Isabella Eaton
Master's Theses
While women have historically represented the overwhelming majority of jazz vocalists, they have also experienced a unique legitimacy gap in a culture that traditionally grants the status of authenticity to the masculine instrumentalist. This study explores the experiences of mid-twentieth century female jazz vocalists, arguing that they faced compounded discrimination within American jazz culture as a result of gender marginalization and the devaluation of their vocal instrument. The intricacies of this phenomenon necessitate a multipronged qualitative approach by employing historiographical analysis, synthesis of existing scholarship, and qualitative case study research methods. Beginning with the dichotomy between the jazz “cat” and …
Cultural Orientation, Parent-Child Connectedness, And Student Mental Health Perceptions, Abigail M. Mattias
Cultural Orientation, Parent-Child Connectedness, And Student Mental Health Perceptions, Abigail M. Mattias
Master's Theses
An individual’s perception of mental health is likely shaped by multiple interrelated factors. Connecting research into mental health perceptions across racial groups and parental value transmission suggests that a strong parent-child relationship increases the likelihood of the child endorsing parental and cultural values. The current survey examined the following predictors of mental health stigma among 144 college students: cultural orientation (collectivist/individualist attitudes), cultural background (collectivist/individualist heritage) as mediated by perceived parental mental health stigma, and parent-child connectedness as moderating the mediation. As predicted, there were stronger links between parent and child mental health stigma when parent-child connectedness was stronger. The …

Federal employment discrimination statutes condition a claimant’s right to sue on timely receipt of a “right-to-sue” notice from the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Courts have historically treated certified mail slips as sufficient to trigger a claimant’s ninety-day filing window, regardless of when the claimant opened or retrieved the letter. In the digital era, the EEOC increasingly issues notices through email and its online Public Portal, raising questions about when electronic notice constitutes “receipt.”
This Article examines recent federal appellate court decisions—Lax v. Mayorkas, McDonald v. St. Louis University, and García-Gesualdo v. Honeywell Aerospace of Puerto Rico, …

Research Outputs: 2025-Present
The application of organic wastes as fertilisers is important for sustainable agriculture, provided that resulting changes in microbial communities do not disrupt nutrient cycling or soil fertility. To the authors’ knowledge, this study was the first to use PacBio 16S rRNA sequencing to characterise soil microbiota changes following waste application to land. This technology provides high taxonomic resolution, improving the characterisation of complex soil microbial communities. To assess the microbiota of five organic wastes and describe soil microbiota following field application, 18 plots received each waste in triplicate at nitrogen-equivalent rates simulating band spreading. Soil cores were collected at 0, …

Trajectories Of Quality Of Life Predict Outcomes In Heart Failure Patients After Hospitalization, Min Hui Liu, Chao-Hung Wang
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Background: Along with substantial advances in therapeutic modalities, the prevalence of heart failure (HF) is increasing. The irreversible nature of HF causes patients to face a risk of sudden deterioration and rehospitalization. Thus, the goal for HF treatment should prioritize quality of life (QOL) rather than simply prolonging survival. Previous studies noted that rehospitalizations threat HF patients' QOL. This study aimed to identify different trajectories of QOL after HF hospitalization and investigate whether QOL trajectories predicted rehospitalization.
Methods: This cohort study collected data of 480 patients with HF hospitalization, including clinical characteristics, 6-min walking distance, and MAGGIC risk score (a …

Developing Ai Competencies In Nursing: An Aacn-Aligned Approach, Vincent Pair, Shayna Katz
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping healthcare through its influence on documentation, decision support, communication, and workflow efficiency. As generative AI (GenAI) tools become increasingly embedded in clinical practice, graduate nursing students must be prepared to use them safely, ethically, and effectively. There are significant gaps in AI literacy among both faculty and students, including limited understanding of AI capabilities, risks, and appropriate applications in practice (Simms, 2024, 2025; Phillips, 2025). Nursing programs similarly lack structured learning outcomes and competency-mapped activities to support responsible AI use. National guidance reinforces the urgency of this work: the AACN Essentials (2021) highlight the …

Mental Health Concerns And Stigma In Online Education: Access To And Awareness Of Student Resources, Stacey L. Knight, J. T. Seaman
Mental Health Concerns And Stigma In Online Education: Access To And Awareness Of Student Resources, Stacey L. Knight, J. T. Seaman
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Online education offers valuable access to students who face barriers to attending traditional in-person courses (Canty et. al., 2020; Wiitavaara & Widar, 2025). However, students may experience social isolation, anxiety, and feelings of loneliness, and the stigma surrounding mental health can further intensify these challenges (Lister et al., 2023; Rutkowska et.al., 2022; Smith & Alheneidi, 2023). This stigma may lead students to minimize their symptoms, avoid acknowledging their concerns, or feel reluctant to seek assistance. Consequently, many students may remain unaware of available mental health resources or feel discouraged from accessing them (Cody et al., 2024).
