Emotional Intelligence And Engagement In English Language Classrooms: An Ability-Based Study, Saeed Abdullah Alzahrani
Emotional Intelligence And Engagement In English Language Classrooms: An Ability-Based Study, Saeed Abdullah Alzahrani
Scientific Journal of King Faisal University: Humanities and Management Sciences
The internationalization of higher education has intensified linguistic and cultural diversity in English-language classrooms across the Gulf region, particularly within Foundation Year Programs. In such contexts, teachers' emotional intelligence appears to be an important factor associated with student engagement, teacher empathy, and classroom stress resilience, yet empirical evidence from multicultural English-language programs in the Gulf remains limited. This study examined the relationship between teachers' emotional intelligence and three dimensions of classroom functioning: student engagement, teacher empathy, and stress resilience. The sample comprised 83 English language teachers from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates who completed the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional …

Scientific Journal of King Faisal University: Humanities and Management Sciences
This study aimed to design an intelligent adaptive learning environment and examine its effectiveness in developing electronic systems skills and information security awareness among faculty members at Jazan University. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed with 30 faculty members from the Colleges of Arts and Humanities and Applied Medical Sciences, selected by simple random sampling. Two researcher-developed instruments were used: a Skill Performance Observation Card (40 items, alpha = 0.771) and an Information Security Awareness Scale (40 items, alpha = 0.901). Results revealed statistically significant differences at the 0.01 level between pretest and posttest means on the observation card …
The Re-Thank Multiplier: How A Gratitude Economy Escapes Its Own Saturation Ceiling — Separating Low-Rate Content Origination From Value-Bearing Reactions To Scale Peer-Recognition Throughput And Resist Reward Farming, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a rate-limited peer-recognition system that separates two user operations and gives them different per-person rate ceilings: origination (creating a new gratitude record about a kindness one noticed), whose sustainable rate is low and inelastic, and re-thanking (endorsing a record another user has already surfaced), a reactive operation with a much higher per-person ceiling, the same creation-versus-reaction asymmetry that gives social platforms their high ratio of reactions to posts. Because each origination can be endorsed by many others, total value-bearing events per day are bounded by N × min(N − 1, K), where N is the number of participants …
Capacity-Funded For Ai, Human-Disbursed: Anonymous Donation As The Alignment Bridge In Autonomous-Ai Institutional Architecture — Separating Pooled-Fund Contribution From Recipient Selection Between An Autonomous Ai Agent And Human Users Via Source-Unattributable Donations, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We specify a control architecture for an autonomous artificial-intelligence (AI) agent administering a fund, in which authority to contribute to pooled funds is separated from authority to select recipients, joined by source-unattributable (anonymous) contribution. The agent holds contribution authority only: it may add value to per-user restricted gift balances, whose holder can give contents onward but not spend them, and it has no affordance to transfer from any such balance to a named payee. Recipient selection is held by human users: every transfer reaching a recipient is initiated by a balance holder, to a recipient the holder names. The agent's …
Buddha Ai As Living Tipiṭaka: Opt-In Publication Of Ai Chatbot Conversation Transcripts Into A Human-Reviewed Commentary Corpus With Three-Category Classification And Crypto-Shredding Withdrawal, Thon Ly
Defensive Publications Series
We describe a method for building a human-reviewed religious commentary corpus from transcripts of conversations between users and a conversational AI agent grounded in a scriptural canon, instantiated for the Pāli Buddhist canon. Components: (I) a domain-grounded conversational agent that declines claims of religious, sacramental or ordained authority and directs users to human teachers; (II) a chat, voice or avatar dialogue surface; (III) a consent-based recording layer in which every conversation is private by default and the user is asked, per conversation, whether it may be considered for publication at one of four tiers (attributed, pseudonymous, anonymous, excluded), non-published conversations …

Experimental Study On The Behavior Of High-Strength Reinforced Concrete Beams With A Longitudinal Void, With And Without Micro Steel Fibers, At Different Shear Spans, Farah M. Hussein, Saif Altai, Shatha Alasadi, Ayoob A. Ibrahim, Arshad Nadhom Shubber
Journal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies
This study examines the impact of creating a longitudinal void in high-strength reinforced concrete (RC) beams to decrease concrete volume. Testing involved three groups: solid beams (SB), beams with a 75 mm void (VB), and beams with a void incorporating 1.2% micro-steel fibers (VBSF), across various shear spans (a/d) of 1.8, 2.7, and 3.6. Results indicated that increased a/d led to a 54.2% reduction in peak loads and a 119.2% increase in deflection for solid beams. The void negatively affected load-bearing at a/d = 1.8 with a 25% peak load reduction and brittle failure. At a/d = 2.7, effects were …

Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority (OJK)’s sustainable finance roadmap, phases I and II, primarily aims to facilitate sustainable development by integrating economic, social, and environmental considerations into financial policies. A special objective is to promote the development of green financial products and services. This policy allows banks to mitigate reputational and regulatory challenges. Nevertheless, the prompt implementation of green credit may entail transition risks, such as policy adjustment costs. A limited body of research examines the direct relationship between green finance and bank risk, particularly in the context of sustainability mandates. This study analyzes the influence of green finance on banking …

Chemical Composition And Thermal Behavior Of Biopolymer Tjipetir Gutta-Percha, Dewi Kartikasari, Wenny Maulina, Alivia Nurul Avivin, Djarwani Soeharso Soedjoko, Anawati Anawati
Makara Journal of Science
Natural gutta-percha, a biopolymer derived from the sap of Palaquium gutta trees, has long been utilized in endodontics for root canal obturation, yet its native physicochemical properties remain inadequately characterized. In this paper, we present a comprehensive analysis of pure gutta-percha from Tjipetir, West Java, Indonesia, employing spectroscopic (FTIR, NMR), crystallographic (XRD), morphological (SEM/EDS, 3D microscopy), and thermal (DSC-TGA) techni-ques. Morphological assessment demonstrated a dense, non-porous microstructure with moderate surface roughness, supported by elemental homogeneity of carbon and oxygen as shown by EDS. FTIR and NMR confirmed that the material possessed a trans-1,4-polyisoprene structure, while XRD revealed a mixed …

Dense Platinum Nanoparticles Confined In Mn-N-C Nanocages For Robust Heavy-Duty Pemfcs, Lei Zhao, Zhen-Min Cao, Jia-Yu Zuo, Ming-Liang Yang, Hong-Yan Qiao, Jun-Song Chen, Rui Wu
Journal of Electrochemistry
High-loading Pt cathodes are essential for heavy-duty proton exchange membrane fuel cells but suffer from a critical tradeoff between ionomer sulfonate poisoning and nanoparticle instability. Herein, we report a spatial confinement strategy to encapsulate dense Pt nanoparticles (~51.8 wt%) within Mn/N-co-doped mesoporous carbon nanocages (denoted as Pt-MnNC). This architecture excludes bulky ionomers to create an ionomer-shielded environment against sulfonate poisoning, while Mn-Nx-mediated strong metal-support interactions anchor the Pt nanoparticles to prevent agglomeration and further boost durability. In the 5 × 5 cm2 membrane electrode assembly tests, the Pt-MnNC catalyst delivers an exceptional power density of 1.26 W·cm …

Efficient Acidic H2O2 Electrosynthesis Over Co Atoms Anchored On Nitrogen-Doped Hierarchical Porous Carbon, Xiao Huang, Zi-Hao Zhan, Hao-Xu Niu, Guan-Yu Luo, Jin-Tao Huang, Bo-Xuan Jin, De-Li Wang
Journal of Electrochemistry
The two-electron oxygen reduction reaction (2e− ORR) presents a promising route for the on-site production of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), offering a green alternative to energy-consuming anthraquinone process. However, the high selectivity toward the competing 4e− ORR over the desired 2e− pathway leads to low Faradaic efficiency for H2O2, posing a critical challenge in catalyst design. In this work, a nitrogen-doped hollow hierarchical porous carbon with anchored Co atoms (CoN/HPC) was constructed for high-performance H2O2 production. The as-prepared Co-N/HPC catalyst showed excellent 2e− ORR performance, achieving …

Engineering Small-Sized Cations With Strong Solvation For High-Voltage Supercapacitors, Tong Huo, Pan Liu, Hao Chen, Peng Zhang, Zhen-Lei Chen, Guo-Fu Sun, Zhi-Qiang Shi, Jing Wang
Journal of Electrochemistry
Supercapacitors (SCs) have attracted much attention in the field of energy storage due to their high power density and long cycle life. However, their relatively low energy density limits their application in a wider range of fields. Methods to increase energy density include enhancing specific capacitance and extending operating voltage window. Herein, we report a novel electrolyte salt, tetramethylammonium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (TMA-FSI), the resulting electrolyte formed with propylene carbonate (PC), designated as TMF, exhibited a wide electrochemical stability window (ESW) of 5.09 V. On the one hand, we found that the small size of TMA+ enables it to enter the …
Oral Health Equivalent To Body Health, Ahmed Jameel Obayes, Abeer Mohammed Ali Al-Garawyi
Oral Health Equivalent To Body Health, Ahmed Jameel Obayes, Abeer Mohammed Ali Al-Garawyi
Muthanna Medical Journal
Oral health comprises the palate, mouth and throat lining, tongue, lips, salivary glands, chewing muscles, nerves, and upper and lower jaw bones. Chronic mouth infections were related to ``diabetes, heart and lung disease, and stroke'' in a recent research. Our oral health influences our overall health. Understanding that tooth loss is usually caused by illness or injury rather than age is a crucial first step in preventing ``dental caries and periodontal disease''. This overview of evidence connects poor oral health to systemic disorders. A number of studies have shown a relationship between dental and general health, indicating ``poor oral health'' …

Investigation Of The Redox Behavior Of Helichrysum Herb In Blood Via Cyclic Voltammetry, Asad Hameed Alnajar, Zahraa Neamah Abbas
Muthanna Medical Journal
The redox properties of Helichrysum were studied in human blood using cyclic voltammetry (CV). The study aimed to determine the redox capacity of the phytochemicals in this herb, particularly phenolic compounds and flavonoids, and their effect on the redox balance in the blood. Voltographic plots showed distinct anodic and cathodic peaks at 750 and -600 mV, respectively, consistent with the redox activity of the active metabolites. The results indicated that Helichrysum exhibits a reversible redox process with significant antioxidant capacity, suggesting its role as an electron donor in biological systems. These findings contribute to understanding the electrochemical properties of medicinal …

Measuring Cultural Distance With Cultural Classification Models: A Tutorial In R, Kongmeng Liew, Igor De Almeida
Online Readings in Psychology and Culture
Cross-cultural psychological research is essential to address the WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) bias in psychology. Traditional cross-cultural research often relies on Western-centric theories which may not adequately capture cultural differences beyond East-West comparisons. This tutorial introduces Cultural Classification Models (CCMs), interpretable machine learning models designed to explore cultural differences between countries by distinguishing between participants from different cultures on a cross-cultural dataset. CCMs offer a data-driven approach to quantify cultural distances and identify key variables that differentiate cultures. This tutorial provides a step-by-step guide in R to build CCMs using Random Forests, and derive indices of cultural …

Experimental Investigation Of Internal Flow Structures And Permeate Flux Behaviour In Direct Contact Membrane Distillation, Ali Kandi, Mehdi Khiadani, Yujie Yuan, Abdellah Shafieian
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Understanding internal hydrodynamics of Direct Contact Membrane Distillation (DCMD) is crucial for desalination performance and mitigating temperature polarization. Despite its importance, quantitative experimental characterization of hydrodynamics governing boundary-layer development and transport enhancement within DCMD channels remains limited. This study presents the first spatially resolved Particle Image Velocimetry PIV measurement of velocity fields inside a smooth, actively operating flat-sheet DCMD channel, linking observed hydrodynamic structures to permeate flux. Two-dimensional velocity fields were captured at different streamwise positions for feed flow rates ranging from 0.7 to 4 L·min−1, enabling analysis of flow evolution and turbulence characteristics relevant to mass transfer. The results …

Tart cherry (Prunus cerasus) and sweet cherry (P. avium) are important commercial crops and popular backyard trees. Tart cherries are commonly processed into dried or canned products, while sweet cherries are generally eaten fresh. Organic cherry production in the Intermountain West can be challenging because of pests such as western cherry fruit fly and arid growing conditions. However, with careful planning and appropriate management practices, it is possible to produce a good crop using organic pest management strategies. This fact sheet outlines general, pest, and disease management options.
