High School Physics Electricity Unit, Beverly Chatfield
High School Physics Electricity Unit, Beverly Chatfield
Understanding by Design: Complete Collection
This is a high school physics unit covering electric fields and forces as well as electric currents and circuits. It delves into how the electric properties of atoms and their subatomic particles influence how materials act in our visible world. The unit involves many games and hands-on learning activities, culminating in a sustainable and culturally relevant performance assessment in which small groups of students create miniature electronic parade floats in celebration of Fiesta in San Antonio, Texas.

Liver Anomalies In Red Snapper (Lutjanus Campechanus) Collected Aboard R/V Weatherbird Ii Cruises Wb-1701 And Wb-1603 In The Southern Gulf Of Mexico From 2015-09-17 To 2016-08-19, Adolfo Gracia
C-IMAGE data
This dataset contains liver anomalies in red snapper (Lutjanus campechanus) that were collected aboard R/V Weatherbird II cruises WB-1701 and WB-1603 in the southern Gulf of Mexico from 2015-09-17 to 2016-08-19. Red snapper samples were caught in Campeche Bay and Yucatan Shelf using demersal longline sampling gear. At each station, 544 kg test monofilament main line was deployed, with a mean of 433 baited hooks per set. Livers of red snappers were examined for hepatic parenchymal changes. The dataset includes the date, location of sample collection sites, the common and scientific name of the fish examined, the classification and the …

Development Of An Industrial Environmental Index To Assess The Sustainability Of Industrial Solvent-Based Processes, Khaled Aly Abdel Maksoud Tarabieh
Development Of An Industrial Environmental Index To Assess The Sustainability Of Industrial Solvent-Based Processes, Khaled Aly Abdel Maksoud Tarabieh
Faculty Journal Articles
In light of the constant increase in global temperatures, increasing risks associated with climate change, and stricter environmental policies, societies are at a crossroad where sound environmental decisions need to be taken. This is particularly applicable to the chemical industry where the sustainability of processes is all the more relevant to decision-making. This article supports the development of a holistic industrial environmental index (IEI) to assess the sustainability of industrial solvent-based processes. Several metrics are reviewed to individually assess particular aspects of the process in terms of materials, equipment, energy, environmental health and safety (EHS) considerations, and the product's entire …

Data For Long-Distance Natal Dispersal Is Relatively Frequent And Correlated With Environmental Factors In A Widespread Raptor, Hanna M. Mccaslin, T. Trevor Caughlin, Julie A. Heath
Biological Sciences Data
Dispersal is a critical process influencing population dynamics, and long-distance dispersal (LDD) can be especially important for gene flow and adaptability. However, little is known about the mechanisms of LDD because of the challenges of studying large-scale movements. We studied correlates of natal LDD using North American bird banding data for American kestrels (Falco sparverius) from 1960-2015. We used Bayesian hierarchical and spatial models to investigate temporal trends and the effects of sex, migration strategy, weather, and agricultural landcover on LDD frequency and distance and account for sampling bias. Nearly half of all natal dispersal (48.7%) was LDD (classified as …

Health Information Literacy On The Risks Of Using Skin Bleaching Products, Olufemi K. Aramide Phd, Olusoji S. Olatunji, Olusola Ayandele
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Information enables individuals to develop knowledge which can influence their health behavior and attitude while inadequate literacy about health information is associated with poor understanding of medical advice and negative health outcomes among the population. Skin bleaching is a health practice involving the (mis)use of chemical solutions to change one’s complexion to a lighter tone. This paper investigated the viability of using the concept of health information literacy to reduce skin bleaching by reviewing previous empirical studies on skin bleaching with emphasis on health information. Finding showed that skin bleaching is driven by a self-destructive, unattainable beauty standard. It also …

Large, landscape-scale national monuments have long been controversial. It has been claimed that large monuments harm local economies by restricting growth of the grazing, timber, mining, and energy industries. Others have asserted that large monuments aid economic growth by reducing reliance on volatile commodity markets and fostering tourism growth. In this study, we use a synthetic control approach to measure the average causal effect of nine national monument designations on county-level per capita income. We find no evidence that monument designation affected per capita income in any of 20 counties hosting nine large (>50,000 acres) national monuments established under …

Human-Animal Teams Producing A Safer World For Humans And Animals, Andrew Rowan
Tales of WellBeing
This article explores the vital role of human‑animal teams in creating a safer, healthier world for both people and animals. Drawing on real‑world examples and expert perspectives, it illustrates how collaborative efforts—such as disaster response, animal rescue, welfare reform, and zoonotic disease prevention—can simultaneously reduce risks to humans and improve animal well‑being.

Weeds are one of the major restrictions to sustaining crop productivity. Weeds often outcompete crops for nutrients, soil moisture, solar radiation, space and provide platforms for breeding of pests and diseases. The ever-growing global food insecurity triggers the need for spatially explicit innovative geospatial technologies that can deliver timely detection of weeds within agro-ecological systems. This will help pinpoint maize fields to be prioritized for weed control. Satellite remote sensing offers incomparable opportunities for precision agriculture, ecological applications and vegetation characterisation, with vast socioeconomic benefits. This work compares and evaluates the strength of Sentinel-2 (S2) satellite with the constellation of …

Motivated by the war in Syria and the ascension of ISIS, this paper models a proxy war with three sponsors and three combatants as a dynamic game. Sponsors are leaders that provide resources for combatants to fight each other. Sponsors 1 and 2 have strong aversion to sponsor 3’s proxy, but not against each other. Three pure strategy equilibria exist in the game. When the ex post value of winning is small, all players fight in equilibrium. However, when the ex post value of winning is large, in equilibrium either sponsors 1 and 2 coordinate their actions, with one of …

Highly...Logical: Remedial Pre-Algebra (Grade 9), Andrew Sanchez, Amy R. Thomson
Understanding by Design: Complete Collection
This 11 week (50 minute daily periods) remedial unit on Pre-Algebra is intended for struggling 9th grade students in a regular Algebra I class. The unit reteaches Pre-Algebra foundational knowledge and skills in greater detail than the normal review in Algebra I, with the hope that it will 1. help struggling Algebra I students to bridge and overcome gaps in their previous knowledge, 2. help them increase understanding and mastery to become more competent, fluent, and confident in the base skills they will need for Algebra I and beyond, and 3. help them to be more successful not only in …
