Resolving The Constitutional Court’S Crisis Of Legitimacy, Nerses Kopalyan, Lusine Sargsyan Jun 2020

Resolving The Constitutional Court’S Crisis Of Legitimacy, Nerses Kopalyan, Lusine Sargsyan

Political Science Faculty Research

Expressing the collective will and tacit frustration of the Armenian electorate over the pace of judicial and structural reforms, the National Assembly, during a special session on June 22, 2020, initiated and unanimously approved a set of Constitutional amendments.[1] A tactical coup de grâce by the majority My Step faction, this procedural mechanism entailed a strategic utilization of parliamentary rules designed to uproot the entrenched problems of the Constitutional Court which, for the most part, is a remnant of the previous, undemocratic regime. This legal and tactical maneuvering remains remarkably consistent with the recommendations of the Venice Commission as well …

C-IMAGE data

This dataset contains Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)-derived surface ocean chlorophyll-a concentration in the Gulf of Mexico, at 4-km spatial resolution and monthly temporal resolution. This is the standard NASA data product distributed by NASA's Ocean Biology Distributed Active Archive Center (OB.DAAC; https://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov) but with monthly climatology and anomaly calculated. The original data have been sub-setted to the Gulf of Mexico region (18N to 31N and 98W to 79W) to calculate the monthly mean chlorophyll distributions over the 2012-2018 period, the annual mean chlorophyll distribution for each year, and the monthly anomaly fields for each year. Transgelin-2 And Phosphoregulation Of The Lic2 Subunit Of Dynein Govern Mitotic Spindle Orientation, Amit Sharma, Sunayana Dagar, Sivaram V.S. Mylavarapu Jun 2020

Transgelin-2 And Phosphoregulation Of The Lic2 Subunit Of Dynein Govern Mitotic Spindle Orientation, Amit Sharma, Sunayana Dagar, Sivaram V.S. Mylavarapu

Open Access archive

The molecular motor dynein is essential for mitotic spindle orientation, which defines the axis of cell division. The light intermediate chain subunits, LIC1 and LIC2, define biochemically and functionally distinct vertebrate dynein complexes, with LIC2-dynein playing a crucial role in ensuring spindle orientation. We reveal a novel, mitosis-specific interaction of LIC2-dynein with the cortical actin-bundling protein transgelin-2. Transgelin-2 is required for maintaining proper spindle length, equatorial metaphase chromosome alignment, spindle orientation and timely anaphase onset. We show that transgelin-2 stabilizes the cortical recruitment of LGN-NuMA, which together with dynein is required for spindle orientation. The opposing actions of transgelin-2 and …

A Mathematical Model To Predict The Porosity Of Locally Electrodeposited Nickel Under Pulsed Voltage Conditions, Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj, Murali Sundaram Jun 2020

A Mathematical Model To Predict The Porosity Of Locally Electrodeposited Nickel Under Pulsed Voltage Conditions, Abishek Balsamy Kamaraj, Murali Sundaram

Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering Presentations And Conference Materials

Metal parts manufactured with engineered porosity offer advantages over traditional parts as they have excellent specific mechanical properties at a lower weight. This is especially of interest in the aerospace and automobile industries. Additive manufacturing allows for creating parts with computer aided design (CAD) modeled lattice structures that offer lightweight parts. However, there is a need for porous structures at the micron scale (<50 µm) which cannot be achieved in a controlled manner using traditional powder-bed based metal additive manufacturing processes. Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) is a novel non-thermal metal additive manufacturing process capable of producing metal 3D parts with engineered porosity at the micron scale. There is a lack of understanding of the cause of porosity and controlling the porosity generated in the parts created using this process. In this paper, the effects of the electrical parameters of deposition, such as the pulse duty cycle and pulse frequency during electrodeposition, on the porosity of the manufactured parts were mathematically modeled. The model predicts that higher frequency electrodeposition leads to more porous structures. The model developed in this study can be used to predict the process parameters needed to deposit nickel microstructures with desired levels of porosity between 20 and 55 %. These model predictions were also validated by experiments. Two mechanisms for the cause of porosity in the deposits were identified. The diffusion-limited deposition phenomenon causing a lack of availability of cations results in larger sized pores and hollow structures to form on the part. The crystal growth and the nucleation process cause micron-scale pores.

The Effect Of The Top Soil Layer On Moisture And Evaporation Dynamics, Zhen Li, Jan Vanderborght, Kathleen M. Smits Jun 2020

The Effect Of The Top Soil Layer On Moisture And Evaporation Dynamics, Zhen Li, Jan Vanderborght, Kathleen M. Smits

Civil Engineering Faculty Publications - Archive

Understanding the effect of the top soil layer on surface evaporation and water distribution is critical to modeling hydrological systems. However, the dependency of near-surface soil moisture and fluxes on layering characteristics remains unclear. To address this uncertainty, we investigate how the arrangement of soil horizons affects the evaporation and soil moisture, specifically, the near-surface soil moisture, through the combination of numerical simulations and evaporation experiments. The characteristics of fluxes and moisture from different soil profiles are then used to understand the soil layering conditions. Results show that the top soil layer can significantly affect the evolution of soil moisture …

Plasmodium Vivax Liver Stage Assay Platforms Using Indian Clinical Isolates, Pradeep A. Subramani, Neha Vartak-Sharma, Seetha Sreekumar, Pallavi Mathur

Background: Vivax malaria is associated with significant morbidity and economic loss, and constitutes the bulk of malaria cases in large parts of Asia and South America as well as recent case reports in Africa. The widespread prevalence of vivax is a challenge to global malaria elimination programmes. Vivax malaria control is particularly challenged by existence of dormant liver stage forms that are difficult to treat and are responsible for multiple relapses, growing drug resistance to the asexual blood stages and host-genetic factors that preclude use of specific drugs like primaquine capable of targeting Plasmodium vivax liver stages. Despite an obligatory …

Side Effects Associated With Organizational Interventions: A Perspective, Logan L. Watts, Bradley E. Gray, Kelsey E. Medeiros

Cambridge University Press Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive

Drawing on examples from published research, the authors offer a perspective on the side effects that are associated with organizational interventions. This perspective is framed in the context of the many hard-won positive influences that industrial and organizational (I-O) psychologists have had on individuals, groups, organizations, and social institutions over the last century. With a few exceptions, we argue that side effects tend to receive less attention from I-O psychology researchers and practitioners than they deserve. A systematic approach to studying, monitoring, and advertising side effects is needed to better understand their causes, consequences, and the contexts in which they …
