Preparing For Pandemonium In A Pandemic: Implementing Virtual Library Engagement, Laura Haygood, A.M. Serrano

UTA Libraries Staff Publications - Archive

Presented at the 2020 Virtual Conference of the Cross Timbers Library Collaborative. In March 2020, University of Texas at Arlington entered uncharted territory, as it transitioned to classes online. UTA Libraries had unknowingly prepared for this scenario by opting into an early adoption of Microsoft Teams, a now widely used collaboration tool. Once the University moved online, the Libraries leveraged an already trained staff to use this application to promote immediate and long-term engagement with each other, as well as stakeholders across campus. This presentation will highlight the successes and failures experienced in fostering community and engagement using Teams, including …

Immediate Effects Of Cervicothoracic Junction Mobilization Versus Thoracic Manipulation On The Range Of Motion And Pain In Mechanical Neck Pain With Cervicothoracic Junction Dysfunction: A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial, Shriya Joshi, Ganesh Balthillaya, Y. V.Raghava Neelapala Aug 2020

V.Raghava Neelapala

Open Access archive

Background: Cervicothoracic (CT) junction hypomobility has been proposed as a contributing factor for neck pain. However, there are limited studies that compared the effect of CT junction mobilization against an effective intervention in neck pain. Thoracic spine manipulation is a nonspecific intervention for neck pain where remote spinal segments are treated based on the concept of regional interdependence. The effectiveness of segment-specific spinal mobilization in the cervical spine has been researched in the last few years, and no definite conclusions could be made from the previous studies. The above reasons warrant the investigation of the effects of a specific CT …

We identified ten persons in six consanguineous families with distal arthrogryposis (DA) who had congenital contractures, scoliosis, and short stature. Exome sequencing revealed that each affected person was homozygous for one of two different rare variants (c.470G>T [p.Cys157Phe] or c.469T>C [p.Cys157Arg]) affecting the same residue of myosin light chain, phosphorylatable, fast skeletal muscle (MYLPF). In a seventh family, a c.487G>A (p.Gly163Ser) variant in MYLPF arose de novo in a father, who transmitted it to his son. In an eighth family comprised of seven individuals with dominantly inherited DA, a c.98C>T (p.Ala33Val) variant segregated in all four …

How Igbo Women Used Petitions To Influence British Authorities During Colonial Rule, Bright Alozie Aug 2020

How Igbo Women Used Petitions To Influence British Authorities During Colonial Rule, Bright Alozie

Black Studies Faculty Publications and Presentations

Selected petitions and written correspondence between Igbo women and British officials between 1892 and 1960 shed fresh light on how women navigated male-dominated colonial institutions and structures of the time.

African women acted in varied and complex ways to the situations they found themselves in. This ranged from subtle to overt opposition, and sometimes violent resistance.

One response was through petition writing as women took to the pen to articulate their concerns. In my research, I examined several petitions written by Igbo women to British officials during the colonial period. I found that petition writing was part of the complex …

All Peer-Reviewed Publications

Poor crop yields remain one of the main causes of chronic food insecurity in Africa. This is largely caused by insect pests, weeds, unfavourable climatic conditions and degraded soils. Weed and pest control, based on the climate-adapted g'push-pull' system, has become an important target for sustainable intensification of food production adopted by many small-holder farmers. However, essential baseline information using remotely sensed data is missing, specifically for the g'push-pull' companion crops. In this study, we investigated the spectral uniqueness of two of the most commonly used g'companion' crops (i.e. greenleaf Desmodium (i Desmodium intortum/i) and Brachiaria (i Brachiaria/i cv Mulato) …

Elevenses, Elizabeth Bonaudi Aug 2020

Elevenses, Elizabeth Bonaudi

In Words

My neighborhood began the English tradition of 11ses (elevenses). We meet in the street at 11:00, Mon-Sat to chit chat and check in on one another (socially distancing, of course). I have gotten to know my neighbors much better and have developed a friendship with them that I will miss when I return to work. We have been able to check in with elderly neighbors and make sure that they are doing ok and providing some socializing. It has been a wonderful side effect of quarantine!

Gas Component Transport Across The Soil-Atmosphere Interface For Gases Of Different Density: Experiments And Modeling, L. M. Bahlmann, K. M. Smits, K. Heck, E. Coltman, R. Helmig, I. Neuweiler

Civil Engineering Faculty Publications - Archive

We investigate the influence of near-surface wind conditions on subsurface gas transport and on soil-atmosphere gas exchange for gases of different density. Results of a sand tank experiment are supported by a numerical investigation with a fully coupled porous medium-free flow model, which accounts for wind turbulence. The experiment consists of a two-dimensional bench-scale soil tank containing homogeneous sand and an overlying wind tunnel. A point source was installed at the bottom of the tank. Gas concentrations were measured at multiple horizontal and vertical locations. Tested conditions include four wind velocities (0.2/1.0/2.0/2.7 m/s), three different gases (helium: light, nitrogen: neutral, …

A Closed Modified V-Shaped Uniplanar Triple Band Acs Fed Antenna For Wireless Applications, Anuj Kumar, Anukul Jindal, Apurva Singh, Reshma Roy

Open Access archive

In the proposed paper, a uniplanar asymmetric coplanar strip (ACS) fed antenna with closed V-shaped radiating patch of size printed on FR4 substrate with loss tangent (=0.02, height (h)=1.6mm, and dielectric constant of 4.4 covering WiMAX, X-band and WLAN applications is presented. The closed V-shaped radiating patch is formed by joning two rectangular stubs. The remaining radiating part is obtained by adding rectangular strips to feed to obtained multiband operation. The advantage of this structure is that it forms simple configuration as well as helps the antenna attaining three distinict useful frequency band with good impedance matching for S11<-10 dB criteria. The proposed antenna operates at 3.1 (WiMAX), 5.0 (WLAN) and 9.9 (X-band) GHz in simulation. Under measurement the proposed antenna shows multiband phenomenon at 3.2, 5.3 and 9.7 GHz, respectively. The antenna exhibits simulated gain of 2.51, 1.18 and 1.96 dB at 3.1, 5.0 and 9.9 GHz. The key parameters of the antenna like length and width of the multi-branched strips are optimized to get the multiband operation. The evolution and optimization process is dealt in detail with the help of S11, VSWR, current distributions, radiation patterns and gain.
