N6-Adenosine Methylation On Mrna Is Recognized By Yth2 Domain Protein Of Human Malaria Parasite Plasmodium Falciparum, Gayathri Govindaraju, Rajashekar Varma Kadumuri, Devadathan Valiyamangalath Sethumadhavan, C. A. Jabeena Aug 2020

N6-Adenosine Methylation On Mrna Is Recognized By Yth2 Domain Protein Of Human Malaria Parasite Plasmodium Falciparum, Gayathri Govindaraju, Rajashekar Varma Kadumuri, Devadathan Valiyamangalath Sethumadhavan, C. A. Jabeena

Background: Plasmodium falciparum exhibits high translational plasticity during its development in RBCs, yet the regulation at the post-transcriptional level is not well understood. The N6-methyl adenosine (m6A) is an important epigenetic modification primarily present on mRNA that controls the levels of transcripts and efficiency of translation in eukaryotes. Recently, the dynamics of m6A on mRNAs at all three developmental stages of P. falciparum in RBCs have been profiled; however, the proteins that regulate the m6A containing mRNAs in the parasites are unknown. Results: Using sequence analysis, we computationally identified that the P. falciparum genome encodes two putative YTH (YT521-B Homology) …

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of the combination of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) and standard personal protective equipment (PPE) compared to the use of standard personal protective equipment alone on the proportion of laboratory confirmed COVID-19 infections among frontline healthcare workers(HCWs) in India Trial design: HOPE is an investigator initiated multi-centre open-label parallel group randomized controlled trial. Participants: All HCWs currently working in an environment with direct exposure to patients with confirmed COVID-19 infection are eligible to participate in the trial. The trial aims to be conducted across 20-30 centres (public and private hospitals) in India. HCWs who decline consent, who have …

A Predictive Model For Network Intrusion Detection Using Stacking Approach, Smitha Rajagopal, Poornima Panduranga Kundapur, K. S. Hareesha

Due to the emerging technological advances, cyber-attacks continue to hamper information systems. The changing dimensionality of cyber threat landscape compel security experts to devise novel approaches to address the problem of network intrusion detection. Machine learning algorithms are extensively used to detect intrusions by dint of their remarkable predictive power. This work presents an ensemble approach for network intrusion detection using a concept called Stacking. As per the popular no free lunch theorem of machine learning, employing single classifier for a problem at hand may not be ideal to achieve generalization. Therefore, the proposed work on network intrusion detection emphasizes …

An Empirical Study Of Refactorings And Technical Debt In Machine Learning Systems, Yiming Tang, Raffi Khatchadourian, Mehdi Bagherzadeh, Rhia Singh, Ajani Stewart, Anita Raja

Publications and Research

Machine Learning (ML), including Deep Learning (DL), systems, i.e., those with ML capabilities, are pervasive in today's data-driven society. Such systems are complex; they are comprised of ML models and many subsystems that support learning processes. As with other complex systems, ML systems are prone to classic technical debt issues, especially when such systems are long-lived, but they also exhibit debt specific to these systems. Unfortunately, there is a gap of knowledge in how ML systems actually evolve and are maintained. In this paper, we fill this gap by studying refactorings, i.e., source-to-source semantics-preserving program transformations, performed in real-world, open-source …

C-IMAGE data

This dataset contains the abundance and distribution of marine snow, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and larval fish, along with environmental parameters, collected aboard several research vessels (RV Weatherbird II, MV Specialty Diver, RV Gordon Gunter) in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico from 2010-05-12 to 2010-09-16. A high speed Dalsa Piranha-2 line-scan camera and a pseudo-collimated LED generated light sheet was used to image the shadows and outlines of resolvable particles that passed through a 100 cm2 field of view. The operational optical resolution of the system was ~65 um. The camera was towed at speeds between 2-3 knots in an oblique profile …

Human Red Blood Cell Behaviour In Hydroxyethyl Starch: Probed By Single Cell Spectroscopy, N. Mithun, Jijo Lukose, Shamee Shastry, Ganesh Mohan

Open Access archive

Hydroxyethyl starch (HES) is a commonly used intravenous fluid in hospital settings. The merits and demerits of its application is still a debatable topic. Investigating the interaction of external agents like intravenous fluids with blood cells is of great significance in clinical environments. Micro-Raman spectroscopy combined with an optical tweezers technique has been utilized for conducting systematic investigations of single live red blood cells (RBCs) under the influence of external stress agents. The present work deals with a detailed biophysical study on the response of human live red blood cells in hydroxyethyl starch using optical techniques. Morphological changes in red …

“Colour is, on the evidence of language alone, very bound up with feelings.” -Marion Milner

The psychology behind color has intrigued me greatly. I’ve wondered how exactly it affects people and their mood. There are many similar meanings to every color. I have been researching a set of colors and what psychologists have to respond with. With this research, I am creating an article about color and fashion; and how it can affect the wearer. I created this product using my photography and asking people how a certain color makes them feel. Every person was photographed in a public place …

Urinary Glycoproteomic Profiling Of Non-Muscle Invasive And Muscle Invasive Bladder Carcinoma Patients Reveals Distinct N-Glycosylation Pattern Of Cd44, Mgam, And Ginm1, Gajanan Sathe, Irene A. George, Barnali Deb, Ankit P. Jain

Clinical management of bladder carcinomas (BC) remains a major challenge and demands comprehensive multi-omics analysis for better stratification of the disease. Identification of patients on risk requires identification of signatures predicting prognosis risk of the patients. Understanding the molecular alterations associated with the disease onset and progression could improve the routinely used diagnostic and therapy procedures. In this study, we investigated the aberrant changes in N-glycosylation pattern of proteins associated with tumorigenesis as well as disease progression in bladder cancer. We integrated and compared global N-glycoproteomic and proteomic profile of urine samples from bladder cancer patients at different clinicopathological stages …
