Diabetes Mellitus [DM] is a metabolic disorder characterised by relative or obsolete insufficiency of insulin and resultant disturbances of carbohydrate metabolism. People with poorly controlled DM are at greater risk for dental problems. They are more likely to affect with oral infections. High and low blood sugar may also be able to cause many oral manifestations and some emergency situations in dental office. This article highlights on oral manifestations and dental considerations while treating these DM patients.

Background and objectives: Placement of more than two implants in the interforaminal area may create a greater implant-to-bone contact area that allows for better stress distribution and minimizes crestal bone loss. The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the stress distribution around implants of the three or four implant‐retained mandibular overdenture. Aim: The aim of this case report is to present a rare finding of protostylid on the mandibular second molar. Background: Human teeth of both primary and permanent dentitions sometimes shows developmental malformation which results in alteration of their size, shape and structure and especially with the crown either in the form of anomalous cusps or an increase in the number of cusp. Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) and percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) are treatments of choice for coronary artery disease. Quality of life (QoL) is an important factor in determining optimum treatment. This study was aimed to compare changes in QoL, six months post procedure, between CABG and PTCA, and to understand the confounding effect of various contributing factors. Thirty stable angina patients each in CABG and PTCA groups, were followed up for six months. QoL was assessed with WHO-QoL-BREF. Depression was rated on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. Introduction: In 2017, Karnataka registered 10,609 deaths due to Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs). Among all injuries, head and especially brain injuries were responsible for significant mortality and morbidity. RTAs account for a significant proportion of brain injuries. Materials and Methods: Of 1035 cases of head injuries visiting the trauma center of a tertiary care teaching hospital in south India, 650 head injuries were attributable to RTAs during the period between August 1, 2017 to July 31, 2018. Youth involves a lot of mental health issues. A descriptive cross-sectional study was undertaken to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence, self-esteem, and assertiveness among 432 youth (18-23 years) from selected colleges of Udupi district, Karnataka using Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test, Rosenberg self-esteem scale, and Youth Assertiveness Scale. The mean emotional intelligence among youth was 124.99 ± 18.71, whereas the mean self-esteem and assertiveness scores were 18.48 ± 3.33 and 60.706 ± 7.077, respectively. Linear relationships among the key variables were assessed using the Karl Pearson's correlation coefficient. Self-esteem and assertiveness showed a weak positive relationship (r = 0.282 …

Fetuses of diabetic mothers are known to have structural and functional cardiac changes. There are minuscule data on fetal cardiac changes from the Indian subcontinent. Hence, this study aimed to detect myocardial hypertrophy using 2D and M-mode fetal echocardiography (ECHO) in South Indian women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in their late phase of pregnancy. We have compared ECHO findings among nondiabetic controls and well-controlled and poorly controlled GDM through a cross-sectional observational study. The parasitic mite Sarcoptes scabiei is an economically highly significant parasite of the skin of humans and animals worldwide. In humans, this mite causes a neglected tropical disease (NTD), called scabies. This disease results in major morbidity, disability, stigma and poverty globally and is often associated with secondary bacterial infections. Currently, anti-scabies treatments are not sufficiently effective, resistance to them is emerging and no vaccine is available. Here, we report the first high-quality genome and transcriptomic data for S. scabiei. The genome is 56.6 Mb in size, has a a repeat content of 10.6% and codes for 9,174 proteins. We …

Purpose: Curcumin is known for its anticancer and migrastatic activity in various cancers, including breast cancer. Newer curcumin derivatives are being explored to overcome limitations of curcumin like low bioavailability, stability, and side effects due to its higher dose. In this study, the synthesis of ST09, a novel curcumin derivative, and its antiproliferative, cytotoxic, and migrastatic properties have been explored both in vitro and in vivo. Background Adult primary intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) is a rare type of hemorrhagic stroke that is poorly understood. The study attempts to define the clinical profile, yield of diagnostic cerebral angiography, and prognosis of patients with PIVH. Patients and Methods Retrospective data analysis of all patients with PIVH admitted between February 2015 and February 2019 at a tertiary care center. Outcome was assessed using the modified Rankin scale (mRS) at 6 months. Kidney failure is an important outcome for patients, clinicians, researchers, healthcare systems, payers, and regulators. However, no harmonized international consensus definitions of kidney failure and key surrogates of progression to kidney failure exist specifically for clinical trials. The International Society of Nephrology convened an international multi-stakeholder meeting to develop consensus on this topic. A core group, experienced in design, conduct, and outcome adjudication of clinical trials, developed a database of 64 randomized trials and the 163 included definitions relevant to kidney failure. Ping-Pong Quantum Key Distribution With Trusted Noise: Non-Markovian Advantage, Shrikant Utagi, R. Srikanth, Subhashish Banerjee

The ping-pong protocol adapted for quantum key distribution is studied in the trusted quantum noise scenario, wherein the legitimate parties can add noise locally. For a well-studied attack model, we show how non-unital, quantum non-Markovianity of the added noise can improve the key rate. We also point out that this noise-induced advantage cannot be obtained by Alice and Bob by adding local classical noise to their post-measurement data.

Objectives: This study examined variations in the termination level of the radial nerve (RN) and the morphometry of the RN and its branches at potential compression sites. Additionally, we digitally analysed histological sections of the RN, the superficial branch of the radial nerve (SBRN), and the posterior interosseous nerve (PIN). Methods: We conducted this study on 14 formalin fixed adult cadavers. The lengths of the RN, SBRN, and PIN were measured up to potential compression sites, using appropriate surface skeletal landmarks as reference points. We hypothesized that activity of caries-causing bacteria in saliva may differ before and after workout. The objective of the study was to investigate if there is any difference in the oral microbial activity before and after HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout. Apart from its noteworthy presence in diets, potato starch has a multitude of industrial applications as a food additive and recently in novel domains such as nanotechnology and bioengineering. Botroclot is a marketed preparation containing hemocoagulase, which is an enzyme having coagulant activity, isolated from the snake Botrops atrox. This formulation is used in dental surgeries and other minor surgical wounds. However, the formulation remains untested in diabetic wounds. Hence, we proposed a study for the topical application of Botroclot in high-fat diet (HFD) + Streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. Considering the cognitive impairment induced by temozolomide (TMZ) in glioblastoma survivors, the present study was aimed to evaluate the protective effect of dehydrozingerone (DHZ) against TMZ-induced cognitive impairment (chemobrain) and C6 cell line-induced glioma in male Wistar rats. In both chemobrain and glioma models, TMZ was administered at a dose of 18 mg/kg i.v every 5th day and DHZ at a dose of 100 mg/kg p.o. daily. In the present investigation, an attempt has been made to investigate the replacement compatibility of conventional austenitic stainless steel (316L) with low-Ni austenitic stainless steel (201) by employing their dissimilar welding using gas tungsten arc welding technique with varying heat input. The effects of heat input on the microstructural, mechanical, and corrosion properties were studied. The result depicts the balanced austenite/ferrite content in the fusion zone for both the heat inputs. The low heat input process, which results in a faster cooling rate, demonstrates higher tensile strength and microhardness. Survivin is one of the rare proteins that is differentially expressed in normal and cancer cells and is directly or indirectly involved in numerous pathways required for tumor maintenance. Prediction Of Land-Change Using Machine Learning For The Deforestation In Paraguay, Max Muller, Shweta Vincent, Om Prakash Kumar

Northwestern Paraguay is being deforested at a very rapid rate. This article studies the rate of deforestation that has happened in this area using satellite images of LandSAT5 and LandSAT7. The rate of the deforestation is detected from 1986 to 2011, graphically using which future prediction is made. The images of LandSAT8 are used to validate the prediction made until 2018. An extrapolation of the graph shows that the process of deforestation is already 3 years ahead of its forecast. An overall accuracy of 98% has been achieved using this technique. The root mean squre error (RMSE) is around 0.011.
