UTA Libraries Staff Publications - Archive

Presented at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the South Central Chapter of the Medical Library Association. OBJECTIVE: Librarians and archivists at a large public research university created a nursing history exhibit documenting their nursing program through all its iterations dating back to its founding in 1890. Exhibit stakeholders collaborated to create this exhibit, which was delayed but not abandoned due to the pandemic. METHODS: An initial meeting was held among library staff that discussed the involvement of future external stakeholders, including nursing faculty and staff, a public library, and a county archive. After this, the involved collaborators identified archival materials …

Modified Precordial Lead R-Wave Deflection Interval Predicts Left- And Right-Sided Idiopathic Outflow Tract Ventricular Arrhythmias, Robert D. Anderson, Saurabh Kumar, Simon Binny, Mukund Prabhu

Open Access archive

Objectives: This study evaluated if modifying electrocardiographic (ECG) precordial leads to a higher intercostal position improved the accuracy of outflow tract ventricular arrhythmia (OTVA) localization. Background: Precordial ECG prediction algorithms that use a standard lead configuration localize OTVA with variable accuracy. Methods: Patients who underwent OTVA ablation were prospectively enrolled to have a standard and modified (high) precordial ECG. R- and S-wave amplitudes and intervals were measured to develop an algorithm that differentiated the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) and the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) with high accuracy—the modified lead R-wave deflection interval (RWDI). This interval was defined from …

Mitochondrial Superoxide Dismutase Specifies Early Neural Commitment By Modulating Mitochondrial Dynamics, Smitha Bhaskar, Preethi Sheshadri, Joel P. Joseph, Chandrakanta Potdar

Open Access archive

Studies revealing molecular mechanisms underlying neural specification have majorly focused on the role played by different transcription factors, but less on non-nuclear components. Earlier, we reported mitochondrial superoxide dismutase (SOD2) to be essential for self-renewal and pluripotency of mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs). In the present study, we found SOD2 to be specifically required for neural lineage, but not the meso- or endoderm specification. Temporally, SOD2 regulated early neural genes, but not the matured genes, by modulating mitochondrial dynamics—specifically by enhancing the mitochondrial fusion protein Mitofusin 2 (MFN2). Bio-complementation strategy further confirmed SOD2 to enhance mitochondrial fusion process independent of …

This dataset documents Edward P. Jones’s consistent focus on Washington D.C. as a setting in his two short story collections. During the Fall semester of 2017, in the graduate course ENGL 5324, my students and I used digital tools and performed close reads to extract actual locations in Washington, D.C. mentioned across Jones’s two collections of short stories. We also verified information by adding zip codes and actual address to landmarks and locations referenced in the stories. These locations help us to chart the movement and locations of characters.

This dataset is comprised of 300 African American novels, essays, poems, autobiographies, slave narratives, and short stories. Inspired by Metacaon.org, a project that weights texts based primarily on the number of citations that works have received in scholarly journals. The dataset draws on five databases: JSTOR, Project Muse, ProQuest, Google Scholar, and the online archives for The New York Times archives to determine the scholarly significance of Black authored texts primarily by the number of times they are cited in scholarly contexts.

Tdim Ionospheric Model Tec, Hmf2, And Nmf2 At Mid-Latitude Northern Hemisphere, Used In The Paper Titled "Is Tec A Viable Servo Input?", Jan J. Sojka

The externally imposed vertical drift in the F region is an extremely important driver of ionospheric dynamics but is very difficult to measure or map. Ionospheric servo algorithms have used hmF2 as F-region observable to infer the vertical drift. However, an even more plentiful observable is the total electron content (TEC) whose coverage over northern mid-latitudes has both spatial and temporal availability that matches those of the probable mechanisms responsible for vertical drift dynamics.

This ionospheric, first principle physics, study shows that TEC is a viable servo parameter at mid-latitudes in the noon sector. The servo relationship is shown to …

Analysis of the most relevant studies on the pharmacological properties and molecular mechanisms of psoralidin, a bioactive compound from the seeds of Cullen corylifolium (L.) Medik. confirmed its complex therapeutic potential. In the last years, the interest of the scientific community regarding psoralidin increased, especially after the discovery of its benefits in estrogen-related diseases and as a chemopreventive agent. Growing preclinical pieces of evidence indicate that psoralidin has anticancer, antiosteoporotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-vitiligo, antibacterial, antiviral, and antidepressant-like effects. Here, we provide a comprehensive and critical review of psoralidin on its bioavailability, pharmacological activities with focus on molecular mechanisms and cell signaling …
