The Winter Adverse Driving Dataset (Wads) - Sequence 28, Akhil Kurup, Jeremy Bos
Michigan Tech Research Data
Collected in the snow belt region of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, WADS is the first multi-modal dataset featuring dense point-wise labeled sequential LiDAR scans collected in severe winter weather. Over 26 TB of multi modal data has been collected of which over 7 GB of LiDAR point clouds (3.6 billion points) have been labeled (semanticKITTI format) and made available here. This outdoor dataset introduces falling snow and accumulated snow along with all the semanticKITTI classes. We believe this dataset will further AV tasks like semantic and panoptic segmentation, object detection and tracking, and localization and mapping in conditions of moderate to …

Perennial Legume Intercrops Provide Multiple Belowground Ecosystem Services In Smallholder Farming Systems, Laurie E. Drinkwater, Charles A.O. Midega, Rachel Awuor, Dickens Nyagol, Zeyaur R. Khan

Soil degradation is a major underlying cause of poverty and malnutrition in smallholder agrarian communities across the globe. Legume diversification, through polyculture or intercropping, is a strategy that increases yields and income while improving family nutrition. However, the potential for these legume-cereal intercrops to restore soil functions in smallholder fields remains uncertain, with many studies failing to detect increases in soil organic matter (SOM). In sub-Saharan Africa, smallholders typically grow maize either intercropped with short-lived annual food legumes or as a monoculture. Recently, a novel maize system which includes perennial legumes in the genus Desmodium as intercrops, known as “push-pull” …

Remote sensing approaches that could identify species of submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) and measure their extent in lake littoral zones would greatly enhance their study and management, especially if they can provide faster or more accurate results than traditional field methods. Remote sensing with multispectral sensors can provide this capability, but SAV identification with this technology must address the challenges of light extinction in aquatic environments where chlorophyll, dissolved organic carbon, and suspended minerals can affect water clarity and the strength of the sensed light signal. Here, we present environmental data collected to support a study using an unmanned aerial …

Endoscopy is one useful diagnostic tool, the use ofwhich is dependent on patient selectionObjectives:This study attempts to explore how predictive selectedsymptoms may be, along with their characteristics in diagnosing pepticulcer s and other gastric lesions in patients undergoing endoscopy. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted with 15 2 patientsreferred to the endoscopic unit at Al Sadr teaching hospital in Basrah. The patients were carefully interviewed to determine clinical andsociodemographic characteristics. They were subjected to endoscopicexamination by a specialist physician, and their results were recordedon the same information sheet. Data were analyzed using theStatistical Package …

Insect seminal fluid, the non-sperm component of the ejaculate, comprises a variegated set of molecules, including, but not limited to, lipids, proteins, carbohydrates, salts, hormones, nucleic acids, and vitamins. The identity and functional role of seminal fluid proteins (SFPs) have been widely investigated, in multiple species. However, most of the other small molecules in insect ejaculates remain uncharacterized. Metabolomics is currently adopted to deepen our understanding of complex biological processes and in the last 15years has been applied to answer different physiological questions. Technological advances in high-throughput methods for metabolite identification such as mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) …

Repeated short-term intranasal instillation of lupus-prone mice with to crystalline silica (cSiO2) induces inflammatory gene expression and ectopic lymphoid neogenesis in the lung, leading to early onset of systemic autoimmunity and rapid progression to glomerulonephritis. These responses are suppressed by dietary supplementation with the ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Here, we tested the hypothesis that dietary DHA supplementation suppresses cSiO2-induced inflammatory proteins in bronchoalveolar alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and plasma of lupus-prone mice. Archived tissue fluid samples were used from a prior investigation in which 6 wk-old lupus-prone female NZBWF1 mice were fed isocaloric diets containing 0 or …

Structure Of Boehmite-Derived C-Alumina And Its Transformation Mechanism Revealed By Electron Crystallography, Zhiping Luo
Structure Of Boehmite-Derived C-Alumina And Its Transformation Mechanism Revealed By Electron Crystallography, Zhiping Luo
College of Health, Science, and Technology
?-Alumina is a widely used material, while its precise crystal structure and transformation mechanism derived from boehmite have remained unclear in the literature for decades. In this work, quantitative electron microscopy has been applied to study the crystalline structure of ?-alumina and its transformation mechanism from boehmite. Based on Rietveld refinement of electron diffraction patterns, a new tetragonal structure model, with a space group of I41/amd (No. 141), was proposed for the ?-alumina phase, with Al cations on 4a, 8c, 8d and 16g sites and O anions on the 16h site, which could provide better fits than current models. Soil water evaporation plays a critical role in mass and energy exchanges across the land–atmosphere interface. Although much is known about this process, there is no agreement on the best modeling approaches to determine soil water evaporation due to the complexity of the numerical modeling scenarios and lack of experimental data available to validate such models. Existing studies show numerical and experimental discrepancies in the evaporation behavior and soil water distribution in soils at various scales, driving us to revisit the key process representation in subsurface soil. Therefore, the goal of this work is to test different mathematical formulations used …
