Flow And Heat Transfer In Swirl Tubes — A Review, Florian Seibold, Phillip M. Ligrani, Bernhard Weigand
Flow And Heat Transfer In Swirl Tubes — A Review, Florian Seibold, Phillip M. Ligrani, Bernhard Weigand
PRC-Affiliated Research
The development of modern gas turbines for aircraft propulsion and power generation demands ever-increasing efficiency, which can be achieved by rising the turbine inlet temperature. Therefore, turbine components and especially the leading edge of turbine blades are exposed to particular high thermal loads with temperatures that are well above the melting point of the material. As a result, efficient cooling techniques are essential. Swirling flows in cyclone cooling systems are a promising technique for internal turbine blade leading edge cooling since they promise high heat transfer rates in combination with relatively uniform heat transfer distributions. The current paper presents a …

Michigan COVID-19 Syndromic Surveillance System Data
The Syndromic Surveillance System Data report was obtained from Michigan's COVID-19 dashboard, from under the link "Coronavirus Symptoms": https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats/coronavirus-symptoms. Data was compiled by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The information was updated twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays.
Syndromic Surveillance System data is obtained from approximately 216 facilities participating in syndromic surveillance (139 Emergency Departments (ED), 77 Urgent Cares) across the State of Michigan. The reporting is based on individuals who present at EDs and may not be representative of the overall population. The coronavirus-like symptoms query searches visit free-text (chief complaint, triage notes, …

Increasing fertilizer access and use is an essential component for improving crop production and food security in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). However, given the heterogeneous nature of smallholder farms, fertilizer application needs to be tailored to specific farming conditions to increase yield, profitability, and nutrient use efficiency. The site-specific nutrient management (SSNM) approach initially developed in the 1990 s for generating field-specific fertilizer recommendations for rice in Asia, has also been introduced to rice, maize and cassava cropping systems in SSA. The SSNM approach has been shown to increase yield, profitability, and nutrient use efficiency. Yield gains of rice and maize …

Lintul-Cassava-Npk: A Simulation Model For Nutrient-Limited Cassava Growth, J. G. Adiele, A. G.T. Schut, K. S. Ezui, K. E. Giller
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
A solid understanding of the dynamics of plant nutrient requirements and uptake from the soil is needed to provide robust fertilizer recommendations, timing of applications and nutrient use efficiency. Our objective was to develop and test the ability of the crop model LINTUL-Cassava-NPK to simulate biomass growth and yield of cassava under nutrient-limited conditions. We used experimental data from six fields located in three different agro-ecologies in Nigeria: Rainforest Zone– Ogoja and Ikom (Cross River), Rainforest Transition Zone – Ekpoma (Edo) and Guinea Savanna Zone – Otukpo (Benue) over two consecutive growing seasons from 2016 to 2018. Nutrient stress in …

Daily Michigan COVID-19 Update
The "WHERE WE STAND WITH COVID-19" map was obtained from Michigan's main COVID-19 page: https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus. Data was compiled by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). The information was updated once a week on Wednesdays.
The State of Michigan is working around the clock to test and treat COVID-19 patients. Below is the most recent data healthcare experts across the state have compiled.
The image contained a map, indicating total cases by county provided by the CDC. It also contains a second map of Michigan COVID-19 Community Levels by County, not captured in this screenshot. The figure …

Michigan COVID-19 Confirmed Cases by Date of Onset Data
Data was downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet which appeared in the Public Use Datasets section under the Cumulative Data link of Michigan's Coronavirus webpage, under the url https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/stats.
Cases are aggregated by the date of onset of COVID-19 symptoms, if known, otherwise by laboratory specimen date if known, otherwise by case referral date. Deaths are aggregated by the date of death if known, otherwise by the last date of a change to the case status.

“Salt-In-Fiber” Electrolyte Enables High-Voltage Solid-State Supercapacitors, Loujain G. Ghanem, Basamat S. Shaheen, Nageh K. Allam
Faculty Journal Articles
The design of functional solid electrolytes is crucial to develop flexible nonsealing supercapacitors for lightweight, wearable, and portable electronics. Herein, an innovative method was used to fabricate LiCl electrospun electrolyte. A solid-state supercapacitor was assembled using LiCl-containing nanofibers as both an electrolyte and separator, and commercial activated carbon as the positive and negative electrodes, respectively. The morphology and chemical composition of the novel electrolyte was revealed using scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray, Fourier transform infrared, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analyses. The electrochemical properties of the solid-state supercapacitor were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, galvanostatic charge–discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Additionally, the performance …

How An Environmental Crisis Catalyzed Community-Led Planning To Address Racial Inequities: A Case Study Of Shingle Mountain, In Southern Dallas, Evelyn Mayo
Planning Masters Professional Reports - Archive
Equity is one of the “Four E’s” representing the core values for planning at the City of Dallas, Texas (City of Dallas, Core Values). However, many neighborhoods in Southern Dallas endure environmental injustices partly because land use planning ignores or disregards the needs of low-income communities of color. This report examines the Shingle Mountain environmental justice crisis in Southern Dallas to illuminate the environmental injustices that the community of Floral Farms has endured partly due to misguided planning and the neglect of the city of Dallas. The study focuses on examining how the grassroots, community-led land use plan developed by residents …

Conductive thread is a common material in e-textile toolkits that allows practitioners to create connections between electronic components sewn on fabric. When powered, conductive threads are used as resistive heaters to activate thermochromic dyes or pigments on textiles to create interactive, aesthetic, and ambient textile displays. In this work, we introduce Embr, a creative framework for supporting hand-embroidered liquid crystal textile displays (LCTDs). This framework includes a characterization of conductive embroidery stitches, an expanded repertoire of thermal formgiving techniques, and a thread modeling tool used to simulate mechanical, thermal, and electrical behaviors of LCTDs. Through exemplar artifacts, we annotate a …
