Trypanosome Infection Rate In Cattle At Nguruman, Kenya, R. A. Tarimo-Nesbitt, T. K. Golder, R. D. Dransfield, M. F. Chaudhury, R. Brightwell

Trypanosome infection rate in cattle at Nguruman was investigated in a study conducted in 1984-1986. Shifting pastoralism significantly reduced trypanosome infections in cattle. The cattle were more heavily infected with Trypanosoma congolense (16.5%) than Trypanosoma vivax (4.95%) and Trypanosoma brucei (0.19%). Trypanosoma theileri was observed only once among the cattle examined. Mixed trypanosome infections in cattle were observed to be 2.75% and 0.014% for T. congolense/T. vivax and T. congolense/T. brucei, respectively. The duration of infection in the cattle was 55 days for T. congolense and 79 days for T. vivax. High infections in cattle were observed 2 months after …

Spontaneous Changes In Acetylcholine Receptor And Calcium Leakage Activity In Cell-Attached Patches From Cultured Dystrophic Myotubes, C. George Carlson

Calcium leakage activity (CLA) was recorded in association with acetylcholine receptor (AChR) activity in cell-attached patches from cultured nondystrophic and dystrophic (mdx) myotubes. Cell-attached recordings from dystrophic myotubes exhibited spontaneous transitions in the activity pattern that were characterized by an instability of AChR function and a decrease in the frequency of AChR events. Recordings from nondystrophic myotubes could be maintained for similar time periods without observing any consistent changes in the distribution of CLA and AChR events, thus indicating that the conditions of the experiment were not conducive to developing AChR instability or desensitization in nondystrophic myotubes. The present study was carried out to 1) evaluate the viability of in vitro fertilized zygotes after microinjection of DNA, 2) assess the influence of oocyte quality upon the development rate of embryos when injected with DNA, and 3) determine the integration frequency of green fluorescent protein DNA into microinjected embryos. Oocytes were aspirated from ovaries of nine nonlactating Holsteins and were categorized into grades A, B, C, and D. At 16 h after in vitro fertilization, approximately half of the pronuclear stage presumptive zygotes were classified as having 1 pronucleus or 2 pronuclei, and they were microinjected with DNA …

Timothy Canova, Banking and Financial Reform at the Crossroads of the Neoliberal Contagion, 14 American University International Law Review 1571 (1999). At the time of publication, this article provided the most in-depth critique of capital account liberalization in any U.S. law journal. The article stemmed from a paper presented by the author to the Seventh Annual Conference of the United States-Mexico Law Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 3, 1998, during the climax of one of the most volatile periods in the global financial markets. Researchers in all management specialties have discussed and investigated the important role values play in personal and organizational phenomena. However, because research on values has been performed in a wide range of social science disciplines and at different levels of analysis, much of thiswork has been uninformed by other work and is neither well integrated nor systematized, resulting in a great deal of confusion concerning the topic. Toxicity Assessment Of Volatile Organic Compounds In Poplar Trees, Ari Ferro, Jean Kennedy, Roger Kjelgren, Julie Rieder, Scott Perrin

A method is described to assess the toxicity of selected volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in poplar trees. The method is illustrated for a specific aqueous mixture of VOCs that contaminates the groundwater at a site for which phytoremediation was being considered. The VOC mixture contained a variety of aromatic compounds, chlorinated aliphatics, and alcohols. Poplar tree cuttings planted in 50-gallon barrels in the greenhouse were watered via subirrigation. The subirrigant contained either a low (42 mg/L), medium (85 mg/L), or high (169 mg/L) dose of the VOC mixture, or water only (experimental control). The Bay Study Group was created by the City of Tampa in 1976 to monitor the effects of pollution abatement that occurred in Hillsborough Bay when the city’s wastewater treatment plant was upgraded from primary to advanced treatment in 1979. The Bay Study Group documented a remarkable restoration of water quality parameters and biological indicators in Hillsborough Bay from the mid 1980s until 2009, when it was disbanded. This zip Geodatabase file contains the photo point locations, aerial photos, and flight maps for the year 1999.

The Pavement Research Facility in Port Allen, Louisiana houses the first full-scale accelerated pavement testing experiment in the state. The purpose of the first experiment was to evaluate the historically prevalent flexible crushed stone and in-place soil cement stabilized base construction in comparison to several alternative base construction materials and construction processes for pavements designed for a semi-tropical climate. Loading is provided by an Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) machine, the second of its type in the United States. Annual percentage growth rate of GDP at market prices based on constant local currency. Aggregates are based on constant 2010 U.S. dollars. GDP is the sum of gross value added by all resident producers in the economy plus any product taxes and minus any subsidies not included in the value of the products. It is calculated without making deductions for depreciation of fabricated assets or for depletion and degradation of natural resources.
