Effect Of Cooling Rate On Nucleation Behavior Of Milk Fat-Sunflower Oil Blends, Silvana Martini, M. L. Herrera, R. W. Hartel

Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences Faculty Publications

The effect of cooling rate on the crystallization behavior of mixes of high-melting milk fat fraction (HMF) and sunflower oil (SFO) was studied by following nucleation with laser-polarized turbidimetry. The initial crystals were photographed, and their thermal and polymorphic behaviors, as well as chemical composition, were investigated by calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, and capillary gas chromatography. Activation energies of nucleation were calculated using the Fisher−Turnbull equation. Despite small differences in Mettler dropping points for different ratios of SFO to HMF, induction times were significantly different between samples and were shorter at a slow cooling rate for the same supercooling. With TPP, authors Mateus and d'Andrade have delivered a concise and comprehensive English-language volume on Portuguese phonology, nicely complementing the pre-generative English language version of J. Mattoso Camara's 1970 work, The Portuguese Language (translated by Anthony Naro).

Blend Effects In The Toxicity Of The Essential Oil Constituents Of Ocimum Kilimandscharicum And Ocimum Kenyense (Labiateae) On Two Post-Harvest Insect Pests, Jembere Bekele, Ahmed Hassanali

The lethal toxicity of major components of the essential oils of Ocimum kilimandscharicum and O. kenyense and of selected blends of these against Sitophilus zeamais and Rhyzopertha dominica were compared with those of the full blends of the essential oils. The compounds were assayed in amounts and proportions present in the minimum 100% lethal dose of the oils. Whereas a major component of O. kilimandscharicum was found to be largely responsible for the toxic action of its essential oil against R. dominica, the results with the other treatments indicated that the toxic action of the essential oils were due to …

Design work from the 2001 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Movie Theatres. Heath MacDonald. The project is sited adjacent to a courtyard-like enclosure just off the highway, at the entry to Ricardo Legorreta's Solana project in Southlake, Texas. The blank exterior walls cut into the ground, and sloping rooftops emerge above the earth and twist in rhythmic patterns around an entry courtyard. The profile is like an expressive series of dancing rock outcroppings. A crystalline entry form contains lines from famous films etched in color. Walkways bridge an open lobby volume …

The Effect Of Resistance Exercise On Recovery Blood Pressure In Normotensive And Borderline Hypertensive Women, Michele Fisher

Nine normotensive and 7 borderline hypertensive women were studied to investigate the effects of an acute bout of resistance exercise on recovery blood pressure. The investigation was conducted over 3 sessions. During the first session, subjects were assessed for muscular strength while performing the following exercises: chest press, seated leg press, biceps brachii curl, knee extension, and triceps brachii extension. In a subsequent session, subjects completed 3 circuits of the aforementioned exercises at 50% (15 repetitions) of the estimated 1 repetition maximum (1RM), followed by a 60-minute recovery period. The Exhibition Illustrations from the CD collection of Ollie W. Pottmeyer is an ongoing reflection of my life. I make soft sculptural fabric pieces as a way of communicating my thoughts and observations of the way society treats marginalized people like me and as a therapeutic healing. This work has enabled others and myself to feel powerful. I have been introspective and have learned things about myself and people of minority like me that I was too ashamed to face in the past. I want people to know that there is something different and I am part of it.

The lack of understanding concerning the initial stage of silicon carbide (SiC) growth on silicon (Si) substrates gives rise to heated debates on the growth mechanisms, the characteristics of the "optimal" initial layers, and the processing parameters necessary to produce high-quality cubic or beta silicon carbide (beta-SiC) on these initial layers. If the potential of beta-SiC as a semiconductor for electronic devices is to be realized, the growth of the initial layers (i.e. the initial stage of growth) must be understood and then controlled.;This dissertation presents results from the comparison of the initial stages of beta-SiC growth by gas source …

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a qualitative analysis instructional program on elementary school-aged children. More specifically, the study is designed to explore the possibility of teaching elementary school-aged children to observe and detect the errors of individuals performing manipulative motor skills at various skill levels. Trellis coded modulation (TCM) combines convolutional coding with modulation, and offers approximately 2--3 dB of coding gain without requiring a corresponding bandwidth expansion. This thesis describes the process of encoding TCM, convolutional codes, decoding using the Viterbi Algorithm (VA), M-ary modulation formats suitable for TCM, and the evaluation of TCM performance.;The concept of multiple TCM, which is a generalization of ordinary TCM, gives rise to the concept of space time codes (STC). With STC, coded signals are transmitted from multiple antennas at the same time over a Rayleigh fading channel. STC combines of transmit diversity, coding and M-ary modulation to …
